Its a damn shame this place closed down. To me this was the only place in town that served authentic french food and felt like a little piece of Paris. My usual was the steak frites with duck fat fries for lunch and duck l’orange accompanied by absinthe for dinner. I dont usually care for live music in restaurants, but here it just fit. I will miss their bread and butter for sure. This used to be the special place I used to take my wife for date nights and am saddened that this place is closed.

Had the burger and it was nothing special. Dining partner had the mac and cheese — was not very cheesy at all — Kraft Mac and Cheese is better. Dessert was good though.

I had wanted to go here for several years, but something always came up. Finally the stars aligned(2 as it would turn out) and we were able to go here for brunch. Where to begin, we got there right at 10 o’clock when the restaurant opened and we were seated promptly. Service was decent and the food came out quickly. That’s where things went wrong. Terribly wrong. I ordered an egg dish with chorizo which was much much too salty. My wife ordered scrambled eggs and a croissant. If you enjoy hard, brown scrambled eggs by all means try them. But for her and for me, these were the worst eggs either of us have had at a restaurant in a long, long time. Message to the cook. If you take your eyes off the ball for a couple of minutes, don’t make the problem worse by serving what you just over cooked. Just fire up a couple more. BTW, the croissants were overdone too. Lack of quality control and just a lack of caring about the food in general, give this place two stars. No reason to come back when Mothers and VQ are close enough and miles better.

Place really artistic and nice but the veal not as delicious as I thought, hard to chew in some parts.

I’ve been here twice for Happy Hour, and both times were perfect. Great menu, great drink selection, and I love the atmosphere. Feels like a mix of French bistro + gastropub and just does the trick. I’ve had: – French onion soup – Truffle fries – Margharita Flatbread – Mac and Cheese So caloric and so euphoric. A weird, but great location. Get here.

We love this place. Historic building. Unassuming. Refined cooking. Ordered the special fish which was perfectly cooked with creative veggies and sauce. Friendly service. Not snob. Fresh ingredients. Great wine list. Great wine recommendations. We’re here before an event at the Schnitz. Got some good cocktails. Salads and soups. We actually split an entrée. Decided on dessert and we’re outa here in plenty of time for the show!

We had such a great time here for dinner with our 3 high school girls. The atmosphere was lovely, the staff cheerful, informative, and friendly. The tuna was spectacular, the shrimp very French and delicious, my partner’s steak frites were delicious. The strolling magician was a HUGE, surprise hit with the girls. We had fun. And we’re so pleasantly surprised with this old/new Portland establishment. We’ll be back. Wish we had the name of our server. She took care of us perfectly.

Ummm not my favorite but it was not bad either. My husband and I ordered a Burrata which was delicious and a gin cocktail while my husband opted for 2 different beers during dinner. For entrees we ordered a lobster mac n cheese and lamb bolgnaise. My mac n cheese was ok… And he loved his lamb… I thought both dishes were«ok» at best. We then ordered an absinthe and courvoisier. Everything was reasonably priced. Our total came to about $ 100 something for 5 drinks, an entrée, and an appetizer.

Happy Hour. When did it get so expensive? Beer for $ 5? A cheeseburger for $ 10? Croque Monsieur for $ 8? Add fries for $ 5, and this happy hour can make one very sad. The food was good, yes. But the prices seem high to me. By the way, on the website, it says the burger, plain, is $ 6 when in fact it is $ 8. $ 2 for cheese. AND, after looking at the website, I see that the dinner prices are exactly the same as the happy hour prices. Why bother saying you have a happy hour? Are you trying to deceive people? The service was very good and that did make us happy. There was a cheerfulness to the employees that says that this is a good place to work. The atmosphere is very fine… bright and French and open. So, I guess if you go for Happy Hour, expect to pay premium prices. I can’t say that it will make me come back…

Really, surprisingly, terrific. Service was great, ambiance okay. But… The food. It was memorable and easy, in the best possible way. It’s the kind of meal that prompted me to keep a food journal, so I can remember to replicate it(in particular, the roasted squash insalata). The lamb was exceptional as well. Cooked rare, and well accompanied, but not in the way that is so common(i.e. to mask mediocrity), but as a contre-pointe to its simplicity. Bravo. I honestly didn’t expect much from the reviews, but was happy to linger. It’s not trying to do the Portlandia-Foodie-Schtick, which others use in place of honest cuisine and elementary quality: so maybe if you need your ego stroked or require the latest fad, it won’t work out. But for me THIS is was a gem.

Wow! Big negative difference since last Time! This is our third time back in the last couple of months… My Partner and I decided to have our company Party here… So we were a party of nine very thirsty, open expense account ready to have some fun… Service could not have been slower. 15 minutes to bring us wine and drinks… Every time! That’s crazy! And then the waiter forgot to bring salads… It was just not good service. I had the black Bass special… The portion was tiny! My wife had the lamb chops and they(as usual) were excellent! But here we are in a restaurant that was not very busy at all, and service was a 3 – 4 out of 10 tops! I write it off to a bad night… But when we are spending a lot of money… A little decent service would be nice! I would still very highly recommend this restaurant… I was just very put off tonight! Positives: friendly wait staff, great drinks and ambience. lamb chops and mac and cheese were good, rest of the meal was sub par. Negatives: grilled shrimp salad was mushy and skimpy on the greens, had high hopes for coq au vin but not very flavorful. Best for appetizers, drinks and the friendly servers, skip the entrees.

Garbage fire. Stood at the hostess stand for 5 minutes just to get a chance to learn that it would take 30 minutes to get a table. At 2 in the afternoon with the place about 1⁄3 full and empty plates lying around. They apparently didn’t have enough staff. Also took note of the«clientele» here sitting around nursing one glass of wine and looking like they’ve been there for hours. Stay away from this place it’s a poorly run waste of time.

Delightfully comfortable atmosphere, delicious comforting French specialties, and friendly service. A great find for a shivering traveler! I had the half chicken and it was sublime.

After not having been to the beloved Brasserie since the new incarnation, I was sorely disappointed that the dark, 1920s Jazz Age feel was entirely gone. Not only was it whitewashed and the cozy bar taken out, the attempt to modernize was haphazard looking. Themixture of deconstructed, county home and modern were ill advised. It did not make for a cohesive presentation at all. I might not have noticed so much if it wasn’t so brightly lit that I felt I was not in a high end restaurant but a cafeteria. The only inviting room in the whole place was the bathroom. Had the food been amazing, I would have forgiven the lack of ambience but my Caesar salad was so laden with anchovy that I literally spat it out. The only saving grace was the bartenderess who knew how to make a decent sidecar and the staff was really accommodating. What a shame. I had been so looking forward to my evening there. Not worth the $ 70 for 4 drinks and a salad.

Tiny portions, big prices, bland food, slow service. Came here with a group of 6 on a Friday night for dinner. Was unimpressed. I wanted oysters and at $ 2.50 a piece, I would’ve thought they could be bigger than a dime… nope…ok, maybe nickel sized. I think they actually pick out the smallest oysters they can find to serve there. I also had the risotto which was very bland tasting. I gave them 2 stars, as opposed to 1, because they brought me crème brule with a sparkler at the end of my meal for my birthday

The good: I went to this restaurant Friday night. Upon entering the place, I was pleased with the ambience, which was semi formal and kind of romantic. Our server was both formal and polite, as well as knowledgeable of the menu items, and professional in his demeanor. He did a great job describing the different dishes in a way that enticed the patrons to try them. I really enjoyed his customer service skills. The bad: As professional as our server was, the service was rather slow. We waited no less than 20 minutes before we were asked what we wanted to drink. When the food came, the dishes were very, very, very tiny! And although, the presentation was exquisite, they were not rich in flavor. Three of my friends had risotto; which was bland and needed more salt(and flavor). I had fish, which was tasty, but not beyond something I could make myself at home. I did not taste what my other friends had, but the general consensus was that it didn’t really lived up to what we expected. We had crème brûlée for desert; it was perfect. Overall, even though I do not mind to pay the cost of endulging my palate, this place was pricey for what we got. With so many options for eateries available, I wouldn’t come back here.

This was the ticket for out-of-towners looking for great food and atmosphere. We didn’t want a packed bar, and the Brasserie was just right. We had the charcuterie and cheese plates along with truffle fries with grey salt. Every bite was balanced and wonderful. The bread was warm, and all the meats were made in-house. I particularly enjoyed the chicken liver mousse. We decided to stay for dessert because the service was perfect and they had a jazz duet playing live. We opted for the strawberry shortcake. Wonderful… every bite. I wish we could find a laid-back vibe like this back home with quality food and attention to detail. Well done!

I think I’ve given up on brunch here. It’s just so sad to me because this used to be my go-to spot. I even wrote to the management about it and they assured me they were working on it, but I went back yesterday and it’s even worse. Still no more croissants at brunch, which, really?!? You’re supposed to be a french restaurant! Next, all semblance of breakfast items have been taken off the menu, save for 3 little items under a brunch banner, none of which are the staples my friends and I used to come here for. I decided to try the french onion soup this past time because I thought hey, it’s hard to mess that up and frankly nothing else on the menu appealed to me. Wrong! It tasted burned, like something was left on the stove too long and the bread in it was just poor quality. I am super bummed but this place is now off our brunch list. Maybe if they find a chef who actually enjoys cooking for a living I’ll come back.

A very lovely atmosphere… I’m sure paris must have places like this — or should, at least. We were looking for a post-museum spot to grab a cocktail and some chow. But ambiance and price matter. This was just the ticket. There was a lively trio playing in the front of the restaurant which made sitting up front kind of a non-starter since the music could get loud. We girls split a bistro burger & fries(we tried duck fat & sea salt) and some jambalaya. The burger was superb, the fries good — but very shoestring, and the jambalaya was decent… needed a bit more spice. The food isn’t super expensive nor particularly cheap — but the happy hour menu offers a lot of the best bar stuff at a very affordable price. On a Friday night, happy hour was about to begin again at 9pm, but we were too hungry to wait. Drinks aren’t cheap either, but they have some cool looking cocktails on the $ 9 menu. Again, happy hour offers $ 5 wells — which is not terrible. But all in all, the food is good, the vibe is great, the service just fine, and it’s one of the best options in this part of town. Definitely want to check out their happy hour and have another bistro burger for $ 6!
