Alteration Station

Disappointed in the recent service I got from this place. Took my pant to get hem and was told they would be ready in a week at a certain time. Well that time came and I stopped to pick them up. The lady said she was working on them right then. Asked if I could come back later. I came back later and was told it wasn’t ready. She had put my pants to the side because someone else needed their item faster… Ugh, hello there! What about me? You had more then enough time to hem my pant. Yes, it was just one not a couple of pants. Guess, I don’t matter as a customer. Lost all my future business. Others should do the same.

I have used this alterations station for a long time and I know they had a flood one week ago. I’ve been trying to reach the owner to get some pants that were left there for alterations, but the phone voicemail isn’t set up and there’s no answer. I’m starting to get wonder if they’ll ever open again or if they’ll at least answer their phones. If anyone knows how to reach them please let me know.

This location has had a flood which will likely be resolved/​fixed in another week or two.
Unfortunately a pair of my slacks which I left for alteration were caught up in the fiasco.
While I can not review this location for actual alterations because they were not done before the flood, I can review the shop for taking great care in getting my pants back to me so that I could get them altered somewhere else.
I think anyone who will make an extra trip to their destroyed shop, go into a construction/​work zone and sift through a bunch of clothes to find a pair of pants is worth trusting with your clothes and alteration needs.

I brought in my favorite winter coat because the lining had almost completely ripped out of the sleeves. I tried Alteration Station because it is right across the hallway from my shoe-​repair place. I already had some lining fabric that I like, so I brought that in and the woman was able to use it and save me about $ 25 on fabric (and she gave me the extra fabric back, too). The coat took about 10 days (which was longer than originally quoted when I brought it in, good thing it was June not January) — but the new sleeve lining looks super awesome! I am so excited to wear my like-​new coat when it gets cold again. The new lining looks like it was a part of the coat all along, and I think it even looks better put-​together than the original lining. The coat even seemed cleaner than when I dropped it off, though how that happened I have no idea.

Ok, I decided to give her another chance — bad idea. I took in a large bag of clothes (8 skirts) and asked her about the prices. I won’t lie, I was hoping that when she saw how many articles of clothing I had, and I even told her I had several more (4 more bags of skirts and slacks), that she might offer me a discounted price. I was way wrong. In fact, her prices increased since my last visit. And that total was over $ 250! Each skirt she said would cost a minimum of $ 40. OUCH! I turned around and walked out. That is far too much! So I did some investigating and discovered DZ Alteration which is right down the street. Unilocal reviewers give DZ 4 stars out of 70 reviews. That’s pretty impressive. So I walked down and spoke with the super friendly lady and told her about my experience at Alteration Station. She looked at my skirts an said, I’ll give you a discount since you have so many and because you had a bad experience. «I want you to like me and my work. I do a great job and will charge you $ 15 each skirt.» AMAZING!!! I am super excited! Assuming she does well, I will take her all my other bags of clothes. And to top it off, she would have batch #1 dont in 3 days! Stay tuned…

Why do new pants now require additional altering after you buy them from the store? Is this a new thing? Do I get a discount for their unfinished product they sold me? I am of «average» height, so unless I recently shrank about 3 inches, pants are being made longer and longer. This is the shop I take them to alter their length as I prefer not to walk on the hem of my pants. That’s just tacky.
This place shares a space with a couple of other little shops, one of these is a shoe repair shop. I am so glad these places still exist because they are supporting the concept of reusing vs. just throwing it away (wherever «away» is).
It’s downtown so it is very convenient for me to run errands on my lunch hour.
The price is also very reasonable.
They usually prefer a week out before you receive your finished product. I am sure you could ask for a different time if you have a limited wardrobe.
The altered woman, or seamstress just makes it so easy to bring your pants down to size. She’s so cool that she only pins up one leg when sizing up the hem. The first time I was there, I asked her why she was only doing one leg, and she just said, what, your other leg longer?
Guess she had a leg up on that joke.

Last week I picked up another suit from Brooks Bros next door to Alteration Station on Morrison. Unfortunately, the tailoring was backed up for three weeks due to the holiday season?! And that is the only reason I docked a star from an otherwise perfect experience as usual at Brooks. The associate helping me recommended the Alteration Station next door if I wanted to get a quicker turnaround. At first I was a bit skeptical taking a Brooks suit to a little privately owned shop I’ve never heard of. But, I’m impatient so I took the chance.
Just a hop, skip, and a jump away on the next block lies the Alteration Station. It’s downstairs of Binyons next to a shoe repair shop. I was quickly greeted by Cathy when I entered and explained my situation and how I needed my suit back within 6 days. By the way, Cathy is a cutie! She assured me that it could be done so I went ahead and got fitted. We set-​up a pick up time 6 days later and within 15 minutes I was heading out the door and back into the blistering Portland cold.
Well, a week later I went to pick up my gear and it was perfect. My jacket was tailored PERFECTLY! And this is saying a lot because not many can get it right the first time for me. With a 46″ chest and 32″ waist, there’s a major v-​taper and a lot has to be pulled in from the back and sides. I believe the master seamstress’ name was Tong. Well, that’s the name on the business card so I’ll just assume so. It’s really hard for me to find a good tailor, it really is, but I think I found one.
Of all the tailors I’ve been to in the past, I’d have to say this was the one of the best. I will definitely be bringing all my future alterations to the Alteration Station on Morrison.
