I love this place, my buddies come here for the Red Miso Ramen. The poached egg is perfect. The Ramen is just amazing. We tried to find other places in Portland that have Ramen, we went from food cart to restaurant and have yet to find something better. Best spicy Ramen in town. Give it a try.

Though the prices seemed quite high to me, I found myself enjoying the Curry bowl quite a bit. Definitely the first time I’ve tried curry in a ramen. It was tasty and filling with a unique style to the ingredients and presentation. To me, this was a new experience and a pleasant one at that. The décor was sparse industrial mixed with bright colors and traditional Japanese design elements which I enjoyed. I’ll be back when I can justify $ 11-$ 12 for a bowl of noodle soup that is pretty outstanding.

OHEM, OHMYDEEEE licious! Yes, amazing. we had the pork belly w/pork broth. Also, had the pot stickers, it sauce — YUMYUM in my tum tum. **the sauce goes well in the ramen** It was a quick pick and a damn good pick. I was truly amazed, at how good it was. I wish the bowl was a little larger for the $ 12, but we will go again and again and again. We were seated immediately, we ordered and served within 15 minutes. Clean, Friendly — small, but top notch

I’ve had the vegetarian ramen and the okonomiyaki tater tots. The tots were really good actually, the ramen was just ok. My wife had the pork ramen and was sad that the pork itself was mostly fatty and the egg was overcooked. Did not spill at all when you opened it up.

I hesitate to even call the salty sludge with noodles they serve here ramen. Firstly, the chashu isn’t chashu, it’s straight up bacon. Thick-sliced bacon that hasn’t been cooked long enough to render the fat, so it’s basically like chewing on a giant slab of boiled bacon. They throw more chopped bacon in addition to the meat slab which I just do not get at all. Gross. The soup doesn’t have any umami that comes from a simmered stock, just hits you in the face with salt and fat, with a slick of garlic oil on top. There is no back-of-the tongue flavor. Again, gross. The noodles are not ramen noodles ar all, I think it’s freakin’ pasta. PASTA. It’s sad to think that people eat this noodle matter and think they are eating ramen. Come on Portland, you can do better.

I love the entrance and the cozy environment but the ramen is just ok. I’ve tried both the shitake and the vegetarian curry and I prefer the curry, the broth is great and all the veggies are good but the essence of great ramen, the noodles, aren’t the best, they have the consistency of pasta than ramen. The broth hits the spot on a cold and rainy day but I wished the noodles were better.

The Spicy Red Miso Ramen is the best I’ve ever had! I would not change one ingredient. There are days where this would be my death row meal.

BOXERRAMEN As an Asian list on White Portland, I had to try Boxer Ramen! It’s a hole in the wall, but the Ramen was decent. It tastes nothing like traditional Ramen, but it’s tasty. The Tonkatsu-Shio had more bacon style pork which made it a bit salter, but it wasn’t too bad. The Okonomiyaki Tots looked better than they tasted, including bonito flakes. First time being the only Asian in a Ramen joint :-) Overall, cool place for a bowl of noodles soup in the cold Portland weather.

I got the Spicy Miso. It was okay. Would’ve preferred more spice. I also was hoping for more seasoning. It’s a little too oily for my preference. The tots are a good option to try if you’re willing to experience something new. However– it’s still extra special, too fishy for my taste.

First of all., Kukai, Hapa PDX and Mirakutei beat this place pretty easily. I thought the broth had a little too much black pepper. It was really distracting. Plus, the broth seemed a bit watered-down. Not as thick and luscious as Hapa. I love pork belly, and Boxer doesn’t do a very good job making their pork belly. I know it’s basically bacon, but it’s not supposed to taste simply like cheap store-bought bacon. The noodles were pretty good. I don’t think I’ll go back there again. For 12 $, it didn’t seem worth it.

I LOVEDTHISCUTELITTLERAMENPLACE! I got the spicy miso ramen and bae got the regular tonkotsu ramen and the famous tots. He thought the tots were good but wouldn’t order again. My ramen was delicious and came with pork that tasted like thick cut bacon. Plus little cut up pork bits full of flavor. Average spice level. I was reading other reviews and can see why people might think that it’s a little salty. I think it comes from the bacony taste of the pork. But for me personally, I tend to like things on the saltier side so I thought it was fine. Overall, I loved it here!

Solid white boy ramen. Not sure if they make the ramen in house. Small selection, smaller portions. Not very traditional but tasty and nice on a cold rainy day. There’s one veggie option. The egg was the best thing although it was bit too runny, the meat was actually a bit tough but had a good flavour. The broth was good although almost at the point of being too salty. It was as if they thought more salt would give it more umami. I’m used to a larger portion for 12 dollars. I did like that eggs didn’t cost more. It’s always backed.

Good, solid ramen. Service is no nonsense. They have 4 broths and then the toppings are all pretty interchangable it seems(egg, scallions, mushrooms, etc). The flavors are simple but pack a punch. They have a vegetarian curry broth. I had the shio ramen with pork belly and it was tasty but very very rich. $ 12/bowl. The spicy miso ramen was also $ 12/bowl and quite spicy. The space is really cramped. There doesn’t seem to be any restroom close by(?) The tots were just okay but we both really enjoyed our ramen. This was a great option for us when other dining options in the neighborhood had very long waits. We are glad we came.

I stopped at Boxer Ramen for lunch on one of these cold very rainy days we’ve been having and I can’t think of a better bad-weather meal. The egg was perfectly runny and poached, and the broth had a unique smoky taste I have not tried elsewhere in their tonkatsu ramen. Is it authentic? Frankly I can’t say. Is is tasty? Definitely. And the service was very good for being a packed lunch diner. I got in and out right in the time window I needed. A great place to go for soup and staying warm during this epic winter season to come. And another bonus is that the menu is fairly uncomplicated, so it’s all good to go for my fellow indecisive folks.

Clearly everyone has different ideas on what makes a ramen spot good, and I’m no different. I’m no ramen expert. My only experience with ramen has been in Chicago, where there is a variety of good places. Having recently moved back to the NW, I am now in search of good ramen. Boxer does well with first impressions. The décor is unconventional, but done well and fun. There were only three guys visible, but for such a small spot, that was all that was needed, and they did their jobs well. We shared the Okonomiyaki Tots, which were overall delicious, but slightly on the salty side. My husband got the Spicy Red Miso, I went with Tonkatsu. The noodles were a bit Al dente for me. I like mine to be a tad softer, but it’s all a matter of preference. The egg was poached perfectly, and the pork belly was good, though it reminded me of ham. Again, not a bad thing, just made for a different experience. The broth was rich and delicious. I always have to tell myself to not guzzle down the broth when I am finished with the noodles! The only real«issue» I had was the amount of black pepper. Black pepper is new in my ramen experiences, but in this case, I felt it was a bit too much. It was clumped on my egg, so eating that felt like eating black pepper, and it kind of took over most of the other flavors. But, I can get around that. I liked the place. It’s small, simple, and executes their menu well. I can’t say that they’re authentic, simply because I wouldn’t know, but I think what’s important is that they do things well.

Grabbed some ramen before my flight back home. I’ve been to Japan and had authentic ramen… I’ve had authentic ramen back home. This is not authentic. If that’s what you are looking for go somewhere else or hop on a flight to Japan and stop whining about. I had the spicy ramen. The broth was rich and tasty I can still feel it coating my lips. The noodles were cooked well it wasn’t piping hot but good enough for me. I enjoyed the smokiness of the bacon. Perfect meal on a cold rainy day. The kitchen staff were friendly. The hostess/waitress was nice and quick. I was in and out and back at the airport. Well done. I will definitely come back when I am in Portland.

Like many Asian cuisines they all have that one soup that takes hours to prepare but seems so simple that anyone thinks they can make it. When I eat Thai, it’s Tom Kha, Vietnamese it’s Phở, Chinese has Egg Drop Soup(although folks on the west coast don’t know about it) for Japanese, it’s Ramen. It’s not that freeze dried crap loaded with sodium that many college students partake in, this is a carefully balanced soup that takes time to prepare or maybe I’m just full of it. I doubt it though because people flock to both locations of Boxer Ramen, and for good reason. Really good ramen. Full of life, full of taste, full of noodles and really tasty pork belly. So amazing. I’ve had some ramen from other places here which were decent, but this matches the soup I had in New York City at a wonderful Japanese restaurant on the lower east side. Scallions, soft boiled egg, a slight taste of char, the noodles and the big hunk of pork belly. I will admit a few more veggies would have been perfect but I gladly shelled out the $ 11 for this beautifully presented bowl of soup.(I took a good picture of it too.) Many people have said great things about this place, and I can’t believe that while I lived up in the Beaumont-Wilshire area, I used to pass by not realizing Boxer was there. I should have been here so much earlier. I’d have been a semi regular, but they do say too much of a good thing… The two guys running things were friendly and attentive and the space was cool but small. I liked the parasols outside leading into the restaurant(also a picture) and I will make sure it doesn’t take so long to return. Beautiful food. Enjoy.

I saw this on a list of great ramen places throughout the U.S. I came about 25 mins before they closed and there was a little bit of a wait, but expected for their reputation. I loved how chill this place was. It was about having great food and relaxing with Ludacris and other similar artists playing in the background. I had the shiitake shoyu ramen and it was phenomenal! The shiitake had a little bit of a vinegary taste, super yummy, that blended oh so well with the broth. I added some of the soft boiled egg, which was the first time I have ever seen that, and I was speechless. Hands down one of the best ramen places I’ve been to so far and I’m from the Bay Area. Tater tots were crispy and delicious. The bonito flakes were a bit too fishy for me but everything else was awesome. The potstickers were wonderful with the sauce as well.
