Word on the street was that Bayou Fixin’s was the bomb. I had been directed by several folks to try the spicy mac n cheese and assured their cornbread was the jam. I ordered up my Mac, and walked away to greener pastures * the hot dog cart* while it was being prepared. When I got my pluthera of cart food home my man and I were eager to crack into the mac, it looked like a steaming pile of schlop but I don’t usually judge on looks alone, so I dished up a big spoonful and gave it a try. Where on earth was the cheese? How bout that sausage, did they run out? No crispy top, no crunchy edges, just a ton of spice on some microwaved noodles. I was bummed. The cornbread was tasty, and so Ill give them 3 stars. I may even give Bayou Fixin’s another try someday when the mushy mac has become a faded memory.

I’m not sure what I had expected, having never had alligator meat before. Maybe I thought it would have some exotic offbeat and pungent flavor. It didn’t. Instead(don’t throw tomatoes at me for saying this) the alligator«fingers»($ 7.50) tasted like chicken! Think chicken tenders. I did peek inside one of the fingers and observed that the meat had a dark-meat, slightly reddish, color. The alligator, with a cornmeal breading, came with fry sauce and a side dish. You can pick between coleslaw and corn bread. I went with the cornbread that was curiously served in a wrapper stamped«Mrs. Good Cookie». The cornbread was fine.
