We visited with my family on a weekend evening and it was dead-dead. There was only one other table of people. This has it’s pros and cons. There was no wait, and the food came quickly. But the server was so distracted with other things, she never attended to us. Service: could be improved. Like I mentioned above, we had to ask multiple times for water before we got a refill, we asked 3xs for napkins before we decided to just use our own dug out of the baby bag. She brought our bill without asking if we wanted dessert(of course we did!)… I assume she’s new, and needs more training Food: was very good. We ordered the classic chicken fried, the Asian chicken fried, and the cumberbatch. The classic was very good. The Asian was nothing special, the cumberbatch was good, but there wasn’t enough pork belly per pancake ratio. For dessert we ordered the chocolate cherry pancakes. It wasn’t my favorite – the cherries were way too tart they were not enjoyable. The pancake was good, though. Bonus: They had fancy waffles available for those with allergies. We got one vegan waffle for my son that cannot have eggs. There was no up charge for the special waffle.

We enjoyed our meals. 2⁄4 of us had chicken & waffles, but they added some unique flavors that took it above the typical dish. Every part of the dish was well done. If I lived in the area I would visit again.

What a great spot! I stopped in today for a mommy-daughter lunch with my toddler. Such a cute little place. I actually JUST discovered this restaurant this morning as I was doing my normal browsing on Unilocal looking up new places to try next. I ordered the buttermilk fried chicken and waffles. Now, let me just start off saying that I loved it. I’ve eaten chicken and waffles at just a few places around Portland(Screen Door and Miss Delta). I’d put it in the middle of the two. Screen Door first, Batter Griddle and Drinkery second and Miss Delta last for my personal line up. My take on it; I thought that the chicken was really good. I would of preferred more seasoning on the chicken but hey, that’s just me! I thought it was a tad bit bland but good nonetheless. The waffle was light and fluffy and full of flavor. Melt in your mouth good! I actually made the mistake of using regular syrup on my waffle first because I wasn’t too sure about their house syrup. Mistake! The house syrup was AMAZING!!! I noticed on the menu there were tons of what seems to be crepes. I love crepes, one of my favorite sweet treats. I will come back just to try one. The place is not super big but big enough. There might be about 5 booths and maybe 10 tables in the inside. There is also outdoor seating right in front of the spot. Would of been perfect to sit out there today with the great weather. Also, not super pricy. I ordered the chicken and waffle meal and a big bowl of fruit for the little one, it was only about 14.50. I’d recommend this spot. I have a feeling that once people really start catching wind of it, there will be flocks of people waiting to try it.

2nd time here in the last year and let’s just say wow is an understatement … First impression: Pretty empty. There were some people sitting outside eating on the benches and we opted for inside. Big mistake because there were fruit flies EVERYWHERE. Please take this literally, I walked into a swarm of them before being seated. It was gross. The atmosphere felt chaotic, unorganized, and dirty. Secondly: There was One, yes, ONE worker who was hosting, waitressing, AND bartending. This was NOT okay. The poor girl was running around the entire time like a chicken with its head cut off. She handled herself very well but wasn’t able to obviously give everyone the attention they needed. There were people, including us, that had to walk up to her(when we could catch her) and ask for maple syrup, etc. and also when we were ready to leave, along with another party who was leaving, we all had to go up to the bar to ask for our check. One party literally walked out without paying a portion of their bill I believe, because once the«host/waitress/bartender/cashier» realized it, she ran outside to call them on it. Luckily they came back and payed. It took us about 10 – 15 minutes just to get the payment process over so we could leave. The entire ordeal was chaotic and unprofessional of the business to have ONE person on staff to do three or more people’s jobs. It was seriously ridiculous. Lastly: The food itself was okay to eh. I really was warned before we received our food though by the quality of the drinks we ordered, yes, drinks! The lemonade was disgusting and so was the Italian soda. They were just awful. Who messes up lemonade though? The last time I came here, the food was pretty good, good enough to have me come back this time. Husband ordered a waffle with pulled pork and coleslaw on top, And I had The King. His pulled pork did not taste like the pulled pork you would get at a bbq joint. It didn’t have that smoky Bbq flavor. It honestly tasted like pork with a sloppy joe — ketchup type of taste to it — it wasn’t what we expected. My meals concept of the different flavors the king puts all together is good, except the quality of the food on the plate was a no go. The pancakes were pretty dark which left a more so burnt pancake taste in my mouth, the bacon pieces on top tasted like they had been cooked three or four hours previously and was re heated In a skillet with old oil. The bananas on top were very brown as if the dish had been sitting out for a long time. The peanut butter was good, but I still added maple syrup on top to accompany everything else. We will not be coming back. Everything from the cleanliness to the quality of the food and the fact they were understaffed on Memorial Day weekend just left a bad taste. I added an extra star because the waitress I’m guessing had a shitty day, I felt for her and because I know this place has potential, they just don’t know what to do with it.

We were excited to check out this place for brunch, but were disappointed by a number of things. First, we were seated as a party of two at a large communal table despite there being two 2-person tables newly available. The host then quietly escorted another party of two who was seated after us at the same communal table to a private booth without offering it to us despite us having been there first. Thinking it an honest and only error, we proceeded to order the breakfast Bloody Mary. Neither of our drinks came with the bacon and pancakes described on the menu or pictured in Unilocal photos. Finally, our meals(we each ordered the Cumberbatch) consisted of two medium-sized pancakes(which were actually quite good) and scant, chunky and grainy hollandaise sauce. This was topped off by our check being delivered with plenty of food still on my plate and without asking if we would like anything else. Bottom line, there are many other great options in Portland, and would specifically avoid driving out of other areas(especially if you live on the west side) to check this place out.

As with my Brix brunch review, I’m very hesitant to post this. Once the wonderousness that is a relatively unknown brunch spot is discovered you are in for long lines and wait times. But I can’t do it. I can’t keep quiet. This place was a surprise. It is not for the gluten/carb averse among us. This is a carb and gluten lovers dream. Everything is served on a bed of carb deliciouness. Pancakes, crepes or waffles. The blend of savory and sweet work in harmony in every dish my party tried. The drinks were fresh and tasty and the GM and bartender both delightful personalities that took the time to chat with us. I can for sure recommend the full monty, the cumberbatch and the Cuban one(forgot the cute name). My sweet tooth may not be able to handle the sweet side of the menu, but it doesn’t mean I won’t go back and test that theory.

They’ve definitely improved since my initial visit. I was pleasantly surprised by the two giant Cubano Crepes, real good. The basic pancakes(top of the menu) came with an awesome sauce in addition to maple. Sausage links were better than what you’d find at traditional places. Servers were all very nice. As many have stated, they’re a bit slow between dropping the menu and order taking. Such time gaps mean we need to socialize with present company. :-)

I am a fan of pancakes, this place was recommended, and the Unilocaliverse seemed to agree. So we made the trek over on a weekday and hoped for the best. The place is adorable and relatively small. We had to wait a good 15 minutes for a table as the place had just filled up and my in-laws are sadly never down for sitting at the bar top. The staff was jamming and seemed slammed. Once we got sat our server was straight, to the point, and eager to get our order in stat. I’m used to this in Portland, and it’s not a big deal. Our food took a really long time to come out though, which does kind of bug me. But again, it’s no deal breaker. I ordered The King, which was just too rich for my taste. Not just were these pancakes topped with bananas and bacon, they were in the batter too. The peanut butter was really good and freshly made, but the fatty bacon overwhelmed all the other flavors. I gave up pretty quickly. On the plus side we did order a side of the buttermilk syrup and I can attest to the legitness of that, and the prices are really reasonable for the large portion size.

What? I am pretty sure that I wrote a review for Batter Griddle and Drinkery in the past – it’s either got hidden or removed. First time I came here was with my sister for lunch when they were fairly new and my fellow Unilocal Elites were praising it as the best chicken and waffle in town. I remember writing a disagreeing review. During my initial visit, I had the Asian Fried Chicken, which was two pieces of white meat chicken fried then served on top of a ginger waffle and a side of garlic chili sauce. I thought the chicken was a little dry and under-seasoned, but really liked the uniqueness of the garlic chili sauce and ginger flavoured waffle – the sauce provided most of the moisture and flavour to the chicken. I didn’t care for the ginger waffle because I like waffles a little more crispy and theirs got soggy. My sister chose the Country Fried Chicken, a standard buttermilk fried pieces of chicken on a regular waffle with some sort of a citrus syrup. She thought the citrus syrup was too sweet and ended up asking for a side of the garlic chili sauce to balance out the sugar and dryness of her dish. I thought it was an okay experience and wouldn’t have driven out of my way to dine there. On Easter Sunday, my friend really wanted pancakes. You know what? Their different varieties of pancake sounded good so I decided to give it another try. It was busy, but not packed that there was a wait for a table that day. We ended up sharing the Happy Jacks add fruit topping(strawberries and blueberries) and Beet Salad. He got a side of the fried chicken and I got two eggs over-easy. I was very content with the pancakes and it hit the spot. In general, I love beet salad – theirs had ingredients that really complimented each other(arugula, roasted red and gold beets, gorgonzola, candied pecans, fresh apples, and balsamic dressing). My friend was a little upset with the service, they had forgotten his fried chicken and made it when we were pretty much done eating. The waitress asked him if he wanted a refill on his coffee and never came back to refill his coffee. I was definitely more pleased by my second visit to Batter Griddle and Drinkery, but I guess I would’ve felt differently if I had been neglected. Skip the chicken and waffles, the pancake is where it is at… three-stars because service could be improved. We waited awhile after we were done and had to flag someone down for our bill. I would probably come back only for the extensive pancake options.

This place gets one star alone for basically being a open-to-close place to get good breakfast. No waking up at 8am to get in line for a waffle, nope, you can stroll in here at 3pm and still eat as if you didn’t wake up at noon. The space is very open with bar seating, tables and outside benches when it’s warm. Since I don’t like traditional breakfast hours, I never have to wait for a seat either so yay! The menu is massive, so give yourself some time to peruse it. I think it’s got to be over 20 dishes, split up between sweet and savory. There’s your traditional chicken & waffles, pancakes with strawberries and such — and then a bit more crazy — mocha me go, cubano & the wakey wakey, eggs and bakey. I’ve pretty much always gotten the chicken & waffles — like a good eggs Benedict, I simply cannot resist when it’s on the menu. At Batter, they have it done right. Lightly & crispy and verrrrry juicy. You typically get a mix of white or dark, unless you’re like me an ask for white. The portion is quite large, and good for two meals(or one if you’re SUUUPER hungry). The syrup is the perfect compliment to make it a sweet & savory meal. I’ve also tried the Asian Fried Chicken w/a ginger waffle — quite the nice spice to the chicken and the chili sauce has quite the kick. I did grab the syrup because why would you not with a waffle. While I haven’t meandered out of the chicken & waffle territory, I’ve come with a varied group of people in my many trips and no one has said one bad thing about their plate. I swiped a bite of my co-workers Full Monti & Maple Bacon and yeee-um. I haven’t delved into their cocktails but it’s your standard breakfast drinks, and a full bar for whatever you can think of, plus a hearty selection of beer. They also have coffee drinks plus juice(which seems store bought, but oh well). Service is pretty good, can tail off at the end when you’re wanting the check but nothing egregious in my opinion. In short(ha, look at the length of this review!), this place is a solid breakfast-lunch-dinner option in my hood so try it out!

I absolutely love their menu, the names of their dishes are awesome. Some of the favorite names I saw were, «what a jerk,» «wakes wakey, eggs and bakey,» and«fluffernutter.» I gotta say, super creative! We ordered the Asian fried chicken & the full monti which are pancakes stuffed with pork belly. You must order the full monti!!! I absolutely loved the cheese and the pork belly that was in the pancake. It was sweet and savory because of the marionberry jam served with it. It was amazing!!! I didn’t really care for the Asian fried chicken, maybe because I ate a lot of chick-fil-a this past week. It just didn’t do it for me. But definitely the full monti gets 5 stars!!! The service was great in the beginning. But unfortunately I had to go up to the counter to ask for the check and a to-go box since our waitress was talking with other diners for quite sometime. I recommend this place if you love breakfast!

Batter, I give you 3 stars until I return and try something else on the menu. I did not like the fried chicken batter. It seemed over cooked, greasy and just flaked off all over the plate. Waffle was good(how can you mess up a waffle?). Now, whatever’s in that syrup is to die for. I could drink that on its own. I ordered a side of gravy, and server asked if I wanted pork sausage or vegetarian sausage. I assumed these were my two options to choose from. Nope! I received gravy with a sliced up pork sausage in the bowl, and an extra charge on my bill. This is weird. Service was decent, and it wasn’t busy at 2pm on a Sunday. Décor is very cute and made a good impression upon entering. I’ll come back and try something else, possibly the crepes!

We came here during the soft opening and had such a terrible experience we figured we would never to return… But tonight as we walked past after a beautiful Saturday out and about, we thought we would pop in for a snack and give it a second try. The place was empty except a handful of other patrons scattered around the open dining area. We grabbed stools at the bar and ordered drinks. My Bloody Mary with spicy tequila was not especially tasty or exciting. My dining partner had a Spanish coffee which was also nothing special. We split the fried chicken and waffle. Again, it was prepared well but lacked flavor and was missing the WOW factor many other reviewers have described. Wth so many other excellent places to eat in Portland this would not be my first choice. But because it’s in our neighborhood I can’t say we won’t give to another shot at some point.

I came here with my boyfriend on a Sunday and it was very packed. Thankfully there was space at the bar, so we were able to sit right away. My boyfriend ordered the Cumberbatch and I got the Full Monti. Both of it was really yummy! They don’t go cheap on the pork belly slices and there’s plenty that comes in both meals. It was a big meal and I left satisfied. I would certainly come back!

Underneath Apartments/Residences on 44th& Fremont resides a restaurant that I was totally impressed with on my first visit. I mentioned to Matthew S.(server) that the menu has some of the most diverse waffle/pancake/crêpe options that I had ever seen. With savory and sweet combos that you would expect plus unusual ones like Asian Fried Chicken on a Ginger Waffle Mac N Cheese Crepes Pancakes with Pork Belly, Fried egg and Hollandaise Sauce Creole Shrimp on a Cornmeal Waffle We had the Asian Fried Chicken and the Country Fried Chicken. Both were excellent and I loved the garlic/chili sauce that came with the Asian Waffle. Service on this day by Matthew S was one of the best in recent memory. A must try to someone looking to step out the proverbial box and try some interesting combinations.

This was my second trip. First impression was the stained, dirty wrinkled menu — disappointing. I ordered the creole shrimp on cornmeal waffle artery seeing a picture on Unilocal. What was served was nothing like the picture. What was served was a lot of thick glugy sauce that soaked and crushed the waffle. The sauce had a little heat but little other flavor. The shrimp was served tails on, which was just weird considering the thick sauce. I may give them another chance, but I’ll definitely steer clear of this dish.

After reading reviews and drooling over pictures, my friends and I piled in a car in Beaverton and drove 45 minutes to try out Batter Griddle. We were not disappointed. I was worried that the place was going to be packed on a Friday night and too noisy to enjoy, but I was wrong. There was ample seating and the restaurant was decorated quite nicely, with a chalk board mural and hip vibe. Our server was nice and since they were out of Mac ‘n’ Cheese balls suggested tempura bacon as a starter. What? You have never had tempura bacon? Well you are missing out. Cause its the only way to eat bacon– like bacon really needed any improvement. Take the delicious salty crispy bacon, then surround it with batter that is kind of soft but also crispy on the outside and slightly sweet. YEAHBABY. For dinner I ordered the Mac’ n’ Cheese Crepes. Delicious. But what I was even more impressed with was the side waffle I ordered($ 4!, not bad). This was the BESTWAFFLE I HAVEEVERHAD, ANDALLWAFFLESWILLPALEINCOMPAIRSON. The batter sweet, the outside crisp, the inside soft, the syrup I would pour all over my body. I am writing this review and my mouth is watering and watering. I really need to go back ASAP. Give them a try, its worth the drive.

Batter, brunch, bing bang boom!!! I got summoned for a gathering so I ate light the night before. One of my friends whom I volunteer at the Hollywood raved how much her family enjoys Batter. I took her word for it so when I was asked if it worth checking out, it was a confident yes. When I arrived, one of my friends had us on the list and waited no more than 5 minutes for a table of 6. The server answered all the questions we had without a flinch and water/coffee. Most of us were eying on the Asian chicken and waffle combo. We did think for a second about ordering different dishes but we really wanted chicken and waffles. As we caught up with our lives and enjoying the company, the hot plates of goodness arrived. We passed around samples of the different dishes we ordered and feasting time began. The Asian style chicken with ginger waffle is a very generous portion that could feed 2 people if sharing is an option. With a simple butter knife, the chicken could be cut at ease. The fluffy ginger waffle had a nice tang bite. The sauce gave the entire dish a nice heat with just the right dab on the plate A side of the sauce comes with it too along with a orange slice to finish the meal. For the reasonable prices of all the dishes, I will be certainly returning. I might even have a birthday brunch here too. We never felt rushed and I savored my plate. I took some home so I wouldn’t feel too full — the leftovers still tasted great!

So I am the Unilocaler in the family, my husband occasionally uses the app on his phone but it’s not really his thing. So imagine my surprise when recently visiting Portland that he said he had found a breakfast spot for us. I was like«whaaa?» and slightly suspicious, I mean I am the Unilocaler and the researcher of all things delicious! When I heard it involved pancakes and waffles I wasn’t surprised, as he is quite the porker when it comes to such things. I wasn’t feelin it but I had to give the man a chance, it was his first Unilocal find! LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! I try chick n waff anytime I see it on a menu. Sometimes I am happy, sometimes not so much, and never have I been blown away, well not until Batter Griddle! The chicken is perfect! Boneless, crispy, succulent, but not too greasy. It kind of made me drool, especially when dipped in some syrup and ate with a bite of crispy sweet waffle. The pancake porker ordered the Elvis and the mac n cheese crepes. The Elvis was good but way to banana and sweet for me to ever eat all of. The mac n cheese crepes were awesome, but not so good left over FYI. A part of the title is «Drinkery», they live up to that name, they had beer on tap and some amazing bloody marys. Try the Pineapple Habanero and the Breakfast one, you get little pancakes with it! Service was friendly and great, slightly scattered but good anyway. Another Portland location that I wish I had at home.
