Looking for any place to eat, in the vicinity of the World Trade Center, on a cold, not too windy Saturday morning. We walked into this Mexican restaurant and were the only customers. The owner’s son, a bright and cheerful young boy, greeted us, pad in hand ready to take our order — with some help from his father.(Already brought to mind, when I helped mom in our little store back in Asia). We decided upon the tacos and the beef enchiladas. Took a table upstairs in the dining room, and the meals were soon delivered, by the same little boy! Both were excellent. Not a crumb was left. The beef taco meat was crispy and nicely flavored. The enchilada meal — with refried beans, rice, lettuce, tomatoes and sour cream — was delightful. In response to a question, the owner gladly explained where he obtained his beef and how it was cooked. Eating at the Baja Grill was unplanned experience, but one that we would like to repeat and can recommend to others. I did noticed the floor around the glass wall divider overlooking below wasn’t swept.

I first discovered Baja Grill about 7 years ago, and recently rediscovered them when I got a hankering for a fresh-mex-but-not-qdoba-or-chipotle option for lunch. Baja Grill(not to be confused with the Baja Fresh chain) is co-located in the«Global Food Court» with Gandhi’s Indian food and a few other vendors, none of which I can remember. Admittedly I haven’t tried much on the menu because I am obsessed with the grilled fish tacos and cilantro lime pesto rice. The Combo #1 with one taco, black beans, cilantro lime pesto rice, and chips fills you up quite nicely for just $ 5.45, but if you’re super hungry(which I always seem to be at lunchtime) you can add another taco for just $ 1.50 more. They offer a variety of fresh salsas, all of which are tasty. Service is friendly and swift — just walk up to the window, place/pay for your order, and then wait a few minutes and you’re on your way!
