My first time in the store, loved the décor and the ambience. Great selection and also a comfortable workstation to create a terrarium of your liking.

A great selection. Customer service was also excellent. My friend and I got a succulent, glass container, sand and pebbles to build our first terrarium. We had already bought some other succulents elsewhere. The lady working was very informative and answered all our questions. Don’t feel shy if you have no experience with terrariums! They will tell you all you need to know. Only downside is it’s kinda pricey. A lot of these places are, but I’ve seen succulents in others stores for cheaper prices. But this is one of the few shops with everything you need and so much to choose from!

Artemisia is one of those places that you walk into and feel perfectly at ease. There are so many little treasures in there that you could spend hours looking around and still not see all of the magic. The staff is helpful and sweet. I bought a plant and and a pot and they happily potted it up for me on the spot. I would recommend Artemisia to anyone who loves terrariums and the inspiration that the natural world gives us.

My sweetie and I made terrariums here together this weekend and it was so fun! You can choose your plants, different sands and little decorations. The staff is very sweet and helpful. You can bring your own container or buy one from them. They have lovely gems, and bits and bobs of cool stuff to add to your creation. A great place for a date, or to take your mom or kiddos. Easy to do and you walk away with a cool one of a kind piece!

This is defiantly a quaint shop to relax and build your own terrarium! The shop owner was helpful in her suggestions and offered you plenty of time to explore all the little bobbles and quirky bits! My terrarium keeps my company on my desk, and I’m buying a full spectrum lamp to keep both of us happy this dreary winter!

Although this store is small, it has a lot of personality and options. I came in to build a terrarium, and Donna was super helpful in that area. So cute, so nice, so helpful, and so many options.

This place is such a gem! You immediately feel at peace when you enter because it’s so freaking adorable and beautiful in here. The staff are very sweet and helpful without being at all overbearing. This is really important to me because I absolutely HATE it when the employee follows you around creepily or you get approached by 20 different people asking if they can help (ahem, LUSH, *hint hint*). I need my space!
I’m new at making terrariums and was really stressed about how to gather everything until I found Artemisia. I never expected there to be a shop completely dedicated to terrariums, especially not one that’s only a few blocks from where I live. Be jealous (; Anyway, you can pretty much find anything you need here: plants, succulents, containers, soil, various sands, decorative pieces, rocks, etc etc. They literally have it all. Even if you don’t buy anything, you will leave happy because the shop will simply lift your spirits and inspire you to create your own terrariums. (:

One day, feeling that I simply didn’t have enough plant life in my home, I typed terrarium + Portland into Unilocal and was directed to this hidden gem. When passing through the threshold, I felt much like I imagine I would entering a Hobbit Hole. Terrariums of every size and shape hang from the ceiling and are perched on shelves. Burlap sacks and glass jars are filled with various types of sand and stones for building tiny habitats. It’s a magical little place.
I wasn’t quite sure how to proceed, as I was a little overwhelmed by all the options (I’ve never planted in sand instead of soil), but the kind gentleman working there walked me through the process of selecting a vessel and using their create-​your-​own bar to make a custom terrarium. He transferred my plants and gave me directions for watering. The end result was a stunning centerpiece for my kitchen table. When all was said and done it cost about $ 35, which included the glass container, two small succulents, sand, a chunk of quartz, and a handful of tiny decorative shells and pebbles. Reasonable, in my opinion.
I’ve been back several times since my initial visit to pick up more sand and plants so my son and I could build more terrariums at home. I never grow tired of the serene environment. (Just try being stressed out in there. It’s impossible.) They offer bi-​weekly terrarium-​building classes which are on my short list of activities to do this spring. If you’re exploring Portland, a visit to this cute little shop is a must.

I want to give this cute litle shop 5 stars, however due to bring not ADA accessible I can’t. It would be wonderful if my sister was able to go in and experience the wonders of this store.

Lots of annoying adjectives describe this place: whimsical, magical, precious, delicate, lovely. Very rarely am i into places that can fall into these categories, but dang if I don’t love Artemisia. For what they’re trying to do, they’re pretty much perfect.
Focusing on terrariums, Artemisia distinguishes itself by planting their specimens in sand rather than soil. I think this gives their creations a cleaner look. They also have a large variety of vessels, including a number of hanging styles.
But you don’t want to buy a pre-​made terrarium. No, you want to make your own! Go in on your own, or sign up for a class. Either way you’ll be able to flex your creative muscles and come out with something pretty. You pay by the plant and then for decorative elements by the scoop. The prices are reasonable, though if you’re not careful you can nickel-​and-​dime yourself into a spendy creation. Just remember, less is oftentimes more.
I adore Artemisia, and I can envision myself coming here quite often for personalized gifts. Something tells me my friends and loved ones won’t mind.

Such an enchanting store! I wandered in here recently and was overcome with the urge to buy everything. Instead, I allowed myself to purchase a dangling darling duo (d.d.d.) of treasures in water, which looks lovely in my bathroom. I promised myself to keep an eye on the classes and/​or to pick up a book to explore creating my own terrariums.
The staff was friendly and sweet. However, I couldn’t help but laugh at some of the transactions I was hearing, such as, «Just the gold sand for you today»? I had been having a bit of a crap day so the whimsy of Artemisia and the thought of disappearing into a little magical terrarium garden did the trick for making me smile.

Whoa. This place was like an episode of Portlandia in and of itself. Just go. Terrarium everything, and definitely not something I’ve seen elsewhere.

Really cute. Really fun to be able to pick everything out and make it your own. I did feel the prices were a bit high, but I always feel that way about terrariums — especially when a lot of plants are likely propagated. Overall, I’d love to give this as a gift or something special for my friends and I to do together. Such a great idea.

Beautiful terrarium store! I went home from our trip to Portland lamenting that there isn’t anything like this here in Boston, and how I desperately wish there was.

An entire store dedicated to the art of terrariums. DIY terrariums. Pre-​made terrariums. Terrarium supplies. Succulents. Air plants. Old books turned into hanging shelves. Again. An ENTIRE store dedicated to terrariums. Stop reading this review, right now, and get your green thumb down there and revel in the art of tiny gardens. For those not yet up to speed or just wanting to learn more they also host workshops.
Now, back to my scheme to smuggle some back into Australia*
*Just kidding any customs officers reading this. I have not got any terrariums in my luggage.

I was looking for a way to bring some green to desk and thought a terrarium would be the perfect fit. I saw several reviews for Artemisia and thought I’d check it out. I’m so glad I went.
The store is filled with quirky and unique treasures. Best of all, you can create your own terrarium and customize it with exactly what you want. The selection is amazing — if you can imagine it, they have it.
The staff was incredibly helpful and made the process for creating my terrarium easy and incredibly fun.
I think it would also be a great spot for a birthday party or group outing.

I truly just walked in, looked around & walked out — so my review won’t contain any details about prices, or selection, etc…
all that I have to say about this place — is it sparked my creativity. i asked the girl working behind the counter what they did — she told me, anything from creating a custom terrarium for you, to walking you through the process…
it seems like this would get really expensive if you did everything here, considering you can get an old fish tank at goodwill for probably $ 5.
i’ll definitely be back.

This place is magical. It is like finding an old cigar box under the floor boards. Full of some strangers dearest sentimentals … But it is actually a whole store! Big enough for you to step inside and the treasures are bits and pieces collected from nature that are arranged and held in sweet capsules of quiet space.
Artemisia specializes in terrariums with the emphasis on the art of making them… They call it collage with nature, so perfect! I really could linger way, way too long in this shop and in that time be taken to a thousand tiny lands. It is so easy to get mesmerized by the beauty and unique essence of each little glass world!
And the inspiration you will find here is enough to make your heart flutter.
Can you tell that I just-​maybe-​might… LOVE this place? Yeah, I do. It is just such a special shop and it is run by a dear CREATIVE little family and a super talented shop girl/​artist/​designer (who is, if I may say, just as mesmerizing and delicate in her beauty as the shop itself.
If you like beauty and specialness and perhaps a hint of real magic… Then you must take a thousand tiny peeks into this tiny plant shop.

2011 is a year of change for me. I’ve been doing more creative projects, started a small garden in my backyard, and now I found Artemisia… I think I’m going to start making some terrariums.
This shop is super cute and they have everything you need to build your terrariums. You will get inspirations just by seeing what they sell here. Prices of items are pretty reasonable. The lady who was there during my visit was really nice and very helpful. Also, they have a cute birdie in the shop. I’m amaze by Artemisia and I’m happy that I might find another hobby.
