I am saddened to hear that Artemis Café has closed. The catering part of the business is still operating. Artemis Café is one of my favorites in Portland. High quality farm-to-table, organic, high quality, and very friendly staff.

There are times in life when you have to ask yourself, «Is my life really this good?!» Artemis makes it possible to ask this question daily, particularly, if you view healthy, delicious food as one part of a happy life. Today, I experienced the answer to that question(again) as I delighted in an iced mate tea with lavender syrup(Genius!), and a corn biscuit with homemade heirloom apple butter. The biscuit was flaky, fluffy, and plump — the perfect seat to an apple butter that whispered of antiquity, rolling hills of sun and shade, red and green years of perfection in a little cup of joy. It’s hard not to love Artemis for their creativity, dedication to green, organic living, and good service.

I don’t want to detract from the great meal I had here recently, but the triple 12-oz mocha I had today didn’t impress me. Reason(1): I don’t think I got three shots, because there was just not a lot of coffee flavor in my cup. It didn’t taste so great either. Reason(2): The 12 oz mocha is a latte $ 3.00 + .50 for the mocha flavor + $ 1 for an additional shot. A $ 1 for an extra shot of espresso? That’s the highest I’ve seen yet in Portland. And It didn’t really make sense because their blackboard stated that a double extra shot was $ 1. I feel ripped-of.

A perfectly good neighborhood café. Stumptown coffee w/free wifi, like a lot of coffee shops. The staff was friendly and the crowd was in their 40s and 50s. I’m in my 30s. In 7 years I will give this place 4 stars.

Dear Artemis please open a location downtown close to my work, so I can get a latte from you instead of Boyds. This place is fun and friendly and makes good drinks and food. The mocha and latte are both delicious. You can sit outside or grab a spot inside. If you have never been, and live in the neighborhood, you need to go!

Artemis café would probably be fine is I wasn’t vegan and if I had a high tolerance for horrible coffee. The first time I went there I inquired about vegan options and instead of telling me about what they have, the manager simply insists that their meat is sustainable. Um… F. U! My beliefs on sustainability aside, there are many reasons people people want other options. Don’t visit my intentions. Not ever. I thanked him and left with my stomach still empty. Cut to visit number two. I was running late for a job orientation and was severely undercaffeinated so out of desperation I decided to run in there and grab a quick latte. This time the guy behind the counter seems nice, albeit a little stressed since a line had formed and he was by himself. When he finally called out for help, who should saunter to his aid? That’s right. The same guy from before. Only this time he wore a scowl and didn’t speak to me while I waited patiently for my latte. He brusquely handed me my latte and it was so hot I almost couldn’t hold onto it. And I have hands made out of asbestos. When I finally got to try it, I realized this guy had given me the worst latte I’ve ever had. I was freakin’ Stumptown trained! I know how their coffee should taste, and this was not it! Now, I know it’s easy to say that something is the«worst ever» without anything substantial backing it up, so I’m going to tell you why. 1) He made it an undrinkably hot temperature. If you do this without proper aeration your milk will scald. Which it did. Gross. 2) My latte was ridiculously foamy. I’ve been known to drink cappuccinos. I could’ve dealt with that. Except, instead of the nice dense micro foam to which every Portlander has become accustomed, this latte had the strange foam that has an awful«mouth feel» and tasted sour. 3) He poured the shots directly into my cup. This is fine if you pay attention and check the grind often. But mine tasted weak and bitter. A sure sign that the shots pulled way to fast. When I was finally able to try it, I gagged a little.(No, I’m not exaggerating. That’s the price I pay for being obsessed with good coffee) I even got other people to try it, offering this latte to anyone that wanted it. No takers. they all thought it was revolting. One person said it tasted like an ashtray. I threw my my latte away and sighed. I had literally thrown money away.

Artemis is one of my favorite local cafes. Their food is awesome: local, organic, sustainable and tasty. They make up innovative and tasty sandwiches(the turkey with fig and olive tapenade sandwich that another review mentioned truly is a great sandwich) as well as a wide array of main and side dishes all made in house, with lots of vegetarian and meat options. They also serve Stumptown coffee and lots of house made desserts. Very friendly staff and service. There are lots of places to sit, including outdoor seating. Combined with the free wifi make the Artemis a geat place to hang out or work for a while.

I’m a regular. My favorite Coffee Shop café, and I like that it is locally owned. Great fresh food, mostly organic and local prepared by Artemis Foods Catering. Stumptown Coffee! Beer and wine too. Plenty of regular tables and chairs as well as comfy loungers and picnic tables outside. Quiet side room with windows. Very good staff and service. Excellent«Meals to Go» that can be eaten onsite or taken out. My most recent meal was a spicy Draper Valley chicken with vegtables and beans yesterday; delicious. Unlike lots of places, this business stopped using Styrafoam years ago and welcomes your own mug.

I’ve been going here off and on since it opened a year or so ago. At first I liked it OK, but not enough to frequent. Now I’ve been here several times in the past few weeks. They have started making their own pastries — much better and more variety than what they used to bring in from outside bakeries. I had a caramel pecan roll today that just KNOCKEDMYSOXOFF! Their coffee(espresso) execution has improved as well. A nice crema on cappuccino and done very consistently. Go to this nice sunny spot. It’s a great place.

Artemis Café has a nice atmosphere and is great for morning coffee, a business lunch, or a wi-fi hangout, with 50 cent Stumptown coffee refills. Can’t go wrong with a baked item made by their awesome in-house pastry chef! They also have creative sandwiches(a fav of mine is the grilled rosemary chicken with sundried tomato pesto and provolone) and yummy hot specials that change daily. Delicious soups made from scratch are a great addition to a sandwich. If you’re lucky they’ll have a tuna sandwich, best tuna in town.
