This is not a review. Just saying that reports of area 52 s demise are premature. It is open

This place is beyond disgusting. If you want a glimpse of where all your tax dollars go, come into Nancys, err Area 52, and watch the neighborhood drunks pile in. You can hear the lounge lizards cackle as they suck down their nicotine. Listen to the regulars talk about how gentrification has ruined the neighborhood. Watch one of the lizards/bartender/cook as she takes an order for food and wonder WHYWOULDANYONEEATHERE! My days drinking in a musty, decrepit garage or basement were gone a long time ago, this place needs updating. The outside aesthetics don’t change the trash inside. But hey one star because thanks to Area 52 the local alcoholics have a place they can walk to.

First time in with«new management». The 2 of us are neighbor hood walk ins. According to the sign we thought the happy hour menu was available. Found out they don’t offer a happy hour menu.(Ding was from previous«new management». Ok, so we tried a few items at it’s regular price. French dip $ 5.75,($ 1.50 extra for fries or tots or potato salad) roast beef on a small hogie with au jus. That’s it. Found it a bit spendy for what it was. Bacon cheeseburger $ 5.50 by itself. Was good, fresh iceberg lettuce and tomatoes, but no bacon. It was ok because it probably got forgot in the shift change. We think the bartender also serves as the cook. No biggie. Onion rings 10 for $ 3.00. Tasty and just enough, mind you, just enough for 2. Got a good taste. Service was very good and attentive! Will definitely will try again once the Portland TRAILBLAZERS are in season. She mentioned they’ll show them. Gotta give new owners a chance to work out the kinks. Hopeful that it won’t be like the many previous owners where they overly catered to regulars and overlook others spending $$ there and open to BLAZER fans. Yup, think it might do well. Let you know…

I would say, it’s a good damn burger for the price. And if you are a portland person. This is portland, bare bones and real. Saturday night has an excellent local band call rose city rattlers. Know for there Americana rocking blues. And having a true portland feel. If you don’t know this place you have cheated your self far to long. Come on Saturday, have a burger, drink a beer and move your ass while you enjoy rose city rattlers.

If you want to be mean mugged by the bar tender and all of the regulars come here. Incredibly small and trashy building. Dollar Hamms is the only upside, if that’s what your into. One star for updating the outside of the once Nancy’s Eat and Browse dive bar.

Just moved to PDX and my fiancée and I were looking for a cool neighborhood bar! LOOKINGNOLONGER! This place is all we need to have a good time ! If you also like crazy low prices and really good food(we tried the happy hour burger with fries for $ 2.50.-!!!) and, in addition bomb prices for beer, live music, and a pool table with some worthy opponents, please, PLEASE, PLEASE, come to AREA52.

This is a great bar to go hang out, have a few beers and play some pool. There is great food and they have live music from local artists. The staff is awesome and friendly. They have an amazing happy hour menu and the prices can’t be beat. Always a good time at Area 52!!!

After much anticipation of this place taking forever to open, everything fizzled out in under 10 seconds of me walking in. No music. Bad lighting. Surly lounge lizards. Stank… It’s just as well though. I really don’t need an AWESOMEBAR right next to me. Saves me money. I won’t be back. One star is for the quick and friendly service.

Nancy would indeed roll over in her grave. What used to be a tavern where the bartender watched Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy there is now a neighborhood establishment with good food, good service, and live music.

I’ve lived two doors south of here for 6 years, and I liked Nancy’s but always wished they had hard A. Now the Area 52 features a full bar, great food, great service, and boy howdee business had been BOOMING. Love the coat hooks at every stool! The pool table is a nice addition as well, and they have a nice lineup of live bands throughout the week.

Nancy would roll over in her grave is she had to witness the horrendous customer service, lack of professionalism, tension between employees, and inexperience of the owners/bartenders. Because I can walk here, I’ve given this place way too many chances. Tonight will be my last.

This place is a fantastic refresh of Nancy’s. The food is affordable and the drinks are healthy. Plus the owners are super nice!

Bob and Madeleine are long-time Southeast Portland residents who stepped in to reopen this neighborhood dive after the passing of Nancy(former owner of the Eat and Browse.) The bar is a gathering place for neighbors who call Brentwood-Darlington home and boasts low prices and quality food. Check out Happy Hour from 4 – 7 daily for a $ 2 Burger and other specials. Pool is always $.50 and local music happens every Sunday afternoon. If you’re looking for a mellow, casual place to grab a drink, watch a game or visit with the neighbors, look no further than Area 52!
