Agger Chiropractic Clinic

I have been both a nutrition and chiropractic patient of Dr. Simon Agger’s for over 3 years now. When I first started seeing him, I considered myself a fairly healthy person in general. I’ve used natural medicine most of my life, and have a high awareness around nutrition and health. But I decided to start seeing Dr. Agger for nutrition after taking part in his 21-​day purification program, as I was experiencing some female hormone issues starting to come up. It was astounding how much better I began to feel, just within a few weeks. And since then, he’s helped my health to continue to improve, despite extremely stressful situations in my job and personal life. Also, some old recurring back pain has disappeared, and my back and neck feel more stable than they’ve ever been. I really appreciate the amount of education that Dr. Agger does with his patients, so that they can be active participants in their own health. His motivation is getting people WELL and living rich and fulfilling lives, and his enthusiasm for helping people reach their full potential is both motivating and encouraging.

I went here after my boyfriend referred me and said he had felt better. I have now been going since the last week of July and I am feeling so much better! I have fairly severe scoliosis and was in a ton of pain with my arms and hands going numb. Now I no longer hurt, hands and arms only go numb if I am working in the same position for several hours (before it was almost constant, 25 min working and my arms were asleep), and my back is actually much less curved! Dr. Agger himself is very nice and really cares about his patients. Highly recommend going.

Best chiropractor in all of portland. Not only are his adjustments more gentle than other chiropractors, but he’s also very knowledgable and educates you about your adjustment. His nutrition programs are amazing too. Going into them I had no idea they’d improve my quality of life they way they did. Agger is passionate about his clinic and patients, and it shows. He also has incredible staff. Dr. Agger’s receptionist, Alina, is great! She never forgets to remind me of critical details regarding my appointments before they happen, and she’s just fun to talk to!

I have to say the points are up a bit because they agreed to see me without an appointment, as a new patient. Prior to this, so many chiropractic practices had no time for me, a new person to Portland, in severe pain. I went to the office, was seen by the chiropractor. As usual, my muscles were tight. Before working on me he sent me to his masseuse, for a half hour, $ 45 massage on my neck and shoulders. Afterwards was the adjustment. It was ok, tipped me back into the merely painful. What people unused to chiropractic may not understand is that after an adjustment you may not be pain-​free. Instead the more severe acute pain may be replaced by a soreness type of pain, which will fade in a day or two. But the soreness is trivial in comparison. An incomplete adjustment will start out the same way afterwards, but as the sore pain fades, the spinal pain grows. That’s pretty much what happened here. Even after the massage, he was unable to completely adjust one side of my neck. I have to admit that I carry tension in my neck muscles, and sometimes they may be difficult to adjust. He decided to adjust the lower spine pain the next time, and suggested I make an appointment for Monday. This was a Thursday. At that time I fully intended to make a followup appointment. This is where the office staff tipped the balance. I went out to pay and set up another appointment. They didn’t take American Express (something which seems to be fairly common in Portland). I tried my Visa cc, which bounced. I used their phone to call Visa to find out why. The day before I had paid off the balance, and changed my home address. Turns out Visa had already sent my replacement card for the Visa I had in my possession to my old address. When they realized this, not only did they cancel the card sent to the old address, but the one I had in my possession as well! The card they were sending to my new address wasn’t helping at all. While I was on my way to finding this out, I was walking around the empty office, with distorted Pachelbel ‘Canon in D’ blaring as hold music. I lowered the volume on the speakerphone so I could barely hear it, and continued wandering around the empty waiting room. The original dark-​haired receptionist appeared from the back office and said, frowning, through pursed lips that I should take the phone off speakerphone as I was disturbing the patients. She disappeared again into the back. I looked around at the empty waiting room & wondered where the disturbed patients were. Since I had been in the back to receive the massage and adjustment, I knew there were no treatment rooms sharing a common wall with the waiting room. And the only other patient had long since gone into the back. ???
I leaned over the empty front reception desk, Canon in D now scratching in my ear, and asked the seated tall woman with brown hair if they took any other credit cards. She had her back to me, turned her head sideways, muttered something terse and negative-​sounding. I went back to wandering the waiting room. Looking at the reception desk from a distance, I noticed a small sticker almost a foot below the surface of the desk, stuck to the front. Along with Visa, it appears they also took Mastercard! The mutterings of the seated woman didn’t have enough syllables to have been an irritated reply of Mastercard, so I was just lucky to have seen the sticker. By then the dark haired woman, joined by the tall brown haired woman were at the front desk. I mentioned seeing the sticker and said I had a Mastercard to pay the bill. If you could picture the two women from the Saturday Night Live skit «Delicious Dish», in disapproval mode, you would have gotten the atmosphere right. I paid my bill and left, without making a follow-​up appointment. Not that they asked me about it, again something different from my over 20 years of experience with chiropractors and their office staff. I don’t need friendly from business relationships, but I do at the very least expect civil. It would be counterproductive to go to an office where the staff made me tense, if the tension I already carry in my neck makes adjustments difficult.
A final note is that this is not an office for those who are paying out of pocket, who need to be careful with their finances. Later on I looked at my bill. It was for $ 164.00. Again, $ 45.00 of this was for the half hour massage. For perspective: On my way across country I needed to see a chiropractor during my stop in Las Vegas, NV. I used Unilocal and found a concierge chiropractor who came to my hotel room (within 2 hours of my calling), with his portable adjustment table, took my history, looked at my medical records (as did Dr. Agger), and adjusted me. Cost was $ 150.00 for a house call, only $ 31.00 less than this appointment.
