Established in 1982. That’s like 30 years… and more, depending on when you’ve read this. From their website: «Gulf Seafood Market has been in business since February 1982, starting out as a small building in Port Isabel, TX. Owner’s Joe and Cecilia Castillo have developed and grown the business into what it is today by only offering the freshest seafood straight from the Gulf of Mexico…» Inside the cozy(teeny) minimart and to the left of the fresh seafood counter is the dining room, but I digress… I’ll post a separate review to Joe’s Oyster Bar, even though both Unilocal links should be combined. You’ve got your typical market grocery items to cook seafood, like Old Bay and cracker meal. There’s also cold beverages in the cooler. I noticed the refreshing beer, soft drinks, and Mexican refrescas. Bonus points for stocking glass bottles of Mexican Coca-Cola made with cane sugar. The glass for their display counter could use a cleaning because the water spots and buildup is obscuring all that delicious, fresh seafood. I wanted to take home some shrimp and ceviche, but we just finished lunch. I would definitely come back and shop here if I had more time… and room in the hotel fridge. Congrats to Gulf Seafood Market for earning the coveted Unilocal Love sticker!
