Pretty good spot. Had the macho burrito on special for about 6 bucks and it was HUGE. Not the highest quality ingredients I’d say but damn good nonetheless. Plenty of melted cheese and verde sauce. Family owned place and they seem like real good folks

Drove to Pocatello from Southern California. Anybody who knows California knows Mexican food is very popular there. Thousands of different Mexican restaurants. I’ve tried a lot of Mexican food and I have to say I just ate the best carnitas tacos ever. And that says a lot from a Californian. Also, I’ve never had spicy pickles carrots and those were amazing as well. Highly recommend this place. Thank you to the chefs and the very kind servers.

The food was eeeeeexcellent, but the place wasn’t well maintained at all and dishes were neglected in multiple piles where guests had bussed their tables. I would suggest ordering food for take-out only.

Food is great. I suggest this for take out. Family run spot for the very filling and satisfying meal. No chips and salsa here though which lowers my rating… also have to buy a cup for a drink at the fountain. Not a great atmosphere either but I don’t care since we always are happy with their tacos all pastor and the chili verde burrito. My kids get a chicken burrito on the kids meal and we are all stuffed and leave happy.

From San Diego and passing through, we haven’t had Mexican food in 3 weeks. This place satisfied our cravings! Hubby had the carne asada burrito &3 taquitos(or rolled tacos, as they’re known in SD), both a la carte, and couldn’t finish the rolled tacos since the burrito was so large. Came stuffed with meat, rice, beans, sour cream, lettuce & tomato, different than back home, but equally as tasty. The taquitos were crisp, but not too crunchy to easily bite. Guacamole isn’t an option here, and I would imagine an avocado is an expensive proposition in this part of Idaho. I had the macho burrito with(not)spicy pork. Couldn’t finish mine, either. Came stuffed with ground/finely chopped pork, rice & beans, topped with a delicious, slightly creamy red sauce, lettuce, tomato & sour cream. We were able to get our Mexican food fix and have a chat with the super friendly owner and get back on the road in no time.

We stopped in Pokey to eat @Taquera La Costa because of the good reviews, and we are glad we did. Loved everything about it. A lot of good food for the price. The employees were helpful in every way. Service was great!

A little history lesson — this place is run by an awesome dude named Hector and his family. He used to run this business out of a bus. The food and service on the bus was unreal, and many of us just called it the«burrito bus» or the«taco bus.» This went on from about 2003−2007ish. Eventually Hector was able to build this fine restaurant and I have been coming here anytime I come visit my parents in town over the past 8 years. This is authentic Mexican food but you can find items that are tame enough for a gringo like me. The quesadillas are simply unreal. The burritos are fresh and delicious. My personal favorite is Carnitas de Res — steak, onion, and green peppers served with tortillas, beans, and rice. I have eaten here literally hundreds of times and never encountered one problem, never gotten sick, never found anything weird, this business is run with the utmost professionalism. I hope Hector stays here forever. Do yourself a favor and eat at this place.

This place is the bomb! I grew up in California so I know good Mexican food. Since leaving 21 years ago it’s hard to find. This place is legit. We had chili verde and pork machaco. Both had amazing flavor and big portions. Their homemade hot sauce and tortillas are amazing!

Best Mexican food in Pocatello area. Run by a husband and wife team. They have nice lunch specials all under $ 5, a main with rice and beans. I highly recommend their spicy pork tacos. They also have great rice, often an under-appreciated and poorly prepared side dish. The restaurant is a bit tucked back from Yellowstone, don’t be deterred, it’s worth it.

My wife and I had decided to have dinner after reviewing our choices for Mexican food. We have many Mexican restrauants, Taquerias and deli’s in Sacramento Ca. We were not disappointed the meal’s were hot, fresh with great flavor. The retried beans are home made, rice was soft with flavor, she had Carnitas Tacos and I had a deep fried Chicken Chimachunca, which were both delicious. Definitely a family operation dad cooking and son on register, serving and busing. Sorry no Salsa’s which was missing to complete meal.

Had the chicken carnitas, very good! Large meal for only 8.00. Will do again. The service was great and the pork tacos were top notch.

Best mexican food you can get in pocatello. Being from Los Angeles I am quite picky about food but this is my go to spot since moving here and the prices are great. Usually it is kids/teenagers taking the orders and bringing the food, they are always so polite & attentive. They give better service than some full restaurants do.

We pulled in just before they were closing, never a good thing to do, but in this case what a pleasant experience. Food was fresh and fast. The place was a bit hard to find as the sign was not lit up a night. Great for traveling thru as you can get gas while they make your meal. Most impressed by the staff. The night crew were high school kids and they were the most well mannered and pleasant kids I have come across in a long time. They have obviously had good training from Mom and Dad. Would support this place again for sure.

Delicious. That about sums it up! Talk about bang for your buck. Not a better deal in town and it’s full on authentic!

Don’t believe the one negative view. Maybe they’re used to manufactured food in a chain restaurant. This is a family run operation. The restaurant itself is behind an old, run-down looking house, but the restaurant is fine. Just turn into the driveway right past the house. We stopped in on our way through to Yellowstone. Our family tried three different dishes, and all were delicious, and the food was fresh. They’ll charge you for water, so just take the bottled water. Apparently this is because people kept asking for cups for water, but using the cups to get soda — jerks.

First mexican place I’ve been to where the salsa doesn’t taste like ass. The service is great, the portions are huge, and the food is quite tasty.

Don’t believe the reviews on Unilocal.Hate to say it but very fair to poor. Dirty place with bland food.

By far the best Mexican food in Pocatello, in my opinion. We’ve tried all the other restaurants, including El Heraderro’s, Puerto Vallarta, and Mama Inez, and this is our fav. I’ve only had one thing there that I DIDN’T like — the Chicken Chimichangas. These are usually my go-to item, but the ones here seem to be made with mixed meat and I didn’t like the flavor. However, the Taquitos Rancheros with Shredded Beef, Rice and Beans are incredible. Ask for the homemade Horchata behind the counter, not the fountain stuff. We’ve always had a good experience here and I’m hoping they stick around for a long, long time.

Great Mexican food at a nice price in Pocatello. This is the type of restaurant that makes you appreciate what a great tool Unilocal is for the traveler. This is the kind of place I might drive right by 100 times without even noticing. Instead, the following events occurred: 1. I got hungry. 2. Consulted Unilocal on iPhone 3. Read funny review by Dan C. 4. Drove directly to Taqueria La Costa 5. Ordered and consumed Burrito Colorado Great burrito made with fresh ingredients. What more could you ask for? Not much for atmosphere, but great food.

4.5 stars!!! I had come into Pocatello to visit a buddy of mine and we finally decided that we wanted Mexican! After taking a look at his new home, we headed for this little Mexican place. There’s a story that goes with this little place. My buddy told me that they used to cook out of a roach coach, but I guess they had some problems. If I recall, my buddy said that there were a lot of construction guys that loved their cooking. So when they heard about their problem, they built them this little place for them. Well, their little restaurant is successful and I guess the construction workers must be happy. We came over for dinner, and the place wasn’t crowded at all. My buddy said that this is the most authentic Mexican can get here in Pocatello, and so do the other reviewers here on Unilocal.I felt like I was in one of those hole in the walls in good old East LA in CA. Served up the same way, with some generous portions at a perfect price(my buddy told me that the prices are half off during lunch). I had the flautas. Two huge flautas with whatever meat you choose topped with shredded lettuce and sour cream, with beans and rice. The home made chili was pretty good, which was pretty mild for my taste. The hotter the better! I was definitely full and wasn’t event hungry for the rest of the evening. The restroom is fairly clean. I wanted to take a picture of it, just because it would have been one of those random pictures that everyone loves. What would it have been? Well, the toilet. Apparently, the flushing lever is broken. So the tank is wide open, and the metal bar that should have been attached to the flushing lever is bent into a hook, which hung over the side of the tank. To flush, you needed to lift up that hook. Pretty good ingenuity. Next time I’m in town, I’m definitely coming back.
