It has literally taken me a week to come to terms with how horrendous my experience here was. We initially were greeted after much delay, hastily handed forms with no direction while the receptionist-who happened to be my accompaniment’s massage therapist– played on the computer. My massage therapist came out-«Patrick» who happened to be a man in 5 finger toe shoes-, and shoved aromatherapy options in our faces, and then hovered over us till picked an option without even really reading the descriptions, just to get him out of our faces. The massage suite was covered in anatomical diagrams, which was not relaxing, the music was way too high, and the sheets on the tables didn’t look clean. Once there, our massages were far from mediocre, they were downright horrible. My massage therapist smelled like a combination of pickles and garlic, and was continually breathing heavily and quite loudly, and would absentmindedly get stuck on a portion of my body, and just smooth it with his hands over and over. My companion’s massage was no better, the massage therapist apparently was a high priced body lotion applicator, and had no massage skills to speak of. Given that Unilocal had such generally high reviews and the location had such reasonable prices for the graduate massages, I had thought we were in luck, but the only luck about this experience was that our hour massage ended well before an hour was up so that we could get the heck out of dodge.

I was invited to a free group therapy session when I met the owner at the Coast Guards wellness fair. I was presenting info on health food, exercise and spirituality and she came by and we hit it off. I’ve been going on and off every Sunday for maybe two years. Their school has amazing teachers and awesome therapists. I sat in on a class and noticed how very oriented toward intimate learning they are. If you want to heal(holistically…not just knots in your shoulders), learn how to empower yourself through a healing profession or just want to immerse yourself in a field of vibrant health and well being then stop by and check it out. 20 – 50 bucks spent there might be a better idea for you than a night at the bar… could be the other way around too;) If you want to be heard you are welcome to stop by the free group sessions(amazing work that is highly valuable) on Sundays at 10:00 am… they are also on Wed I believe…6 or 7 pm perhaps. Blessings, Michael

I decided to book a massage after reading houston’s review. Overall, I was pleased with the ‘graduate’ level massage. The therapist listened well and gave a good massage. A few insights into the facility: the massage rooms are separated by a sheet so if there is another person getting a massage you can hear everything. I didn’t care for this at all which is why I gave Sky Hill Institute a «4». It makes more sense to me to have an open facility for students but the graduate levels have already received their training. I will consider trying out the student massages in November but am curious about the NHI clinic too.

I’ve received a few massages at the Sky Hill clinic from at least two different therapists, and as someone trained as a massage therapist I have to say the place is a good value. Aside from the fact that the prices are lower, the quality of the work is decent even if not perfect. And although it isn’t some fancy, polished spa environment for some reason it is very relaxing there — may be the way the people are. The massages are done in large rooms where a curtain separates your space from an adjacent space so when there’s another massage happening nearby it’s necessary to whisper so as not to disturb your neighbor, but then again you generally don’t want to be talking a lot during your massage, and if you’re relaxed enough you don’t feel like it anyway. It’s easy to recommend the Sky Hill clinic for an affordable massage on a budget. I haven’t been to their«master clinic» but if their student and graduate clinic is any indication, then the more experienced therapists should be even better.
