The 2006 thru 2010 Whalebone Cabernet Sauvignon were excellent and a bargain for around $ 35 a bottle. The 2011 and 2012 vintages not very good. Fortunately, the 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon that I tasted last week was very good for $ 36 and the 2013 Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon for $ 55 was excellent. I am thrilled that there cabernet is now once again one of the best if not the best in the Paso Robles region. This Mom and Pop winery is one of the best in the area and I could never understand why they were not as well known as some of their neighbors for their excellent Cabs. Excellent service. Picturesque location overlooking their vineyards. Tasting fee was waived with my purchase of six bottles.

SOMANYCATS! Whalebone Vineyard was recommended by a friend, who claimed their wines were some of the best in Paso, and we were not disappointed. First, the tasting room is situated on a hill with a killer view, with plenty of outside seating. The tasting room itself is on the smaller side but is full of charm and warmth. Family photos cover the walls as well as merchandise that seems to capitalize on inside jokes within the family(one of the wines that we purchased was called«Bob Wine“named after the families father). The wines themselves were very sweet and delicious. I would warn that all the wines that we tasted were very sweet and full, so if you prefer a dry bitter taste, these wines may not be for you. The menu was easy to read and was helpful with what you should pair your wines with food wise. The wine tasting fee is also waved if you purchase a bottle so that is always nice. The service was also great, educational but laid back. However, the best part of this winery are the FOURAMAZINGCATS that wander around the grounds and tasting room. They are all so friendly and really make the wine tasting fun and adorable at the same time. Even if you decide you do not care for the wine(but you will love the wine because it is fantastic) go for the kitty pets and snuggles! I will be recommending Whalebone Vineyard to anyone who is in the Paso area, and one day hope to return to sample some more delicious wines.

Another great experience at Whalebone, this one even better than the last. Bob’s daughter and nephew chatted and laughed with us the entire time and were super fun. I adore the small family feel, and their wines are pretty great.

What an adorable find! Great location, great wines, great staff! A smaller alternative to some of the bigger juggernauts around. Allie was my server, and she was delightful! I’ll be back for sure!

This was a great little winery/vineyard with the best wine we tasted all weekend. All of the wines were amazing by the Pinot Noir, Bob Wine, and the Zinfandel stood out from the rest. The family that owns the vineyeard has infused their quirky and funloving sense of humor into every bottle. The Duct Tape labels on the Bob Wine, the family bulldog on other labels, framed photos of Bob on the wall, and the«happy whales’ logo are just a few examples. Talking with them during the tasting was great. There is a great view from the patio of their property and the olive farm across the valley. This place is a must visit in Pasa Robles fro great wine and a really friendly atmosphere. The pourers have a heavy hand too, always a plus.

Great place!!! Loved the family vibe, made this vineyard my favorite of our wine tasting weekend. The reds we tasted were delicious and smooth! Loved all the little touches in the tasting room. Will definitely be at Whalebone Vineyard again, especially for a bottle of Bob Wine!!! and. the hats designed by the brother are awesome!

Whalebone has been a winery on my list of places to try for a long time, and they did not disappoint. Whalebone is a fun with a great atmosphere. They are family own and family run. The tasting room is smaller but that doesn’t matter, you can tell that Whalebone is a place where you make friends with everyone in there. They have a small outdoor area to sit, either picnic or sip on the wines. There is a small tasting fee, but will be waive with a purchase. They also sell ice cream, meats, olive oil, and vinegar. Now about the wines. They have a smaller selection a total of about 8. That’s ok. They are quality wines with awesome names. Most are red blends, but has a great taste and flavor. Their white is very good too.

I wish I could give this place more than 5 stars. Everyone who works there is family, and when you visit, you feel like you’re part of the family too. EXCELLENT wines. Everything on the current tasting menu is delicious. This is a must visit on every trip to Paso.

A small family owned winery a bit off the beaten path, but worth the trip for their delicious cabernet. Thankfully they also offered a casual salami, cheese and bread for purchase. And don’t mind the cat on the bar, because he’s not going anywhere just because you have decided to visit his space. We received a bottle of their cab as a Christmas gift and when we planned our wine tasting trip to Paso Robles we knew we wanted to visit. Different experience from the larger tasting room and the small patio has a terrific view perfect for having a snack before you move on.

Hungry and a sucker for a gimmick, we pulled up to Whalebone for their advertised«free BBQ». We didn’t expect the wine to be great, but that didn’t matter. we were there for the BBQ. What I loved about this place was. the free BBQ(of course, but don’t expect a large piece of meat or anything, there are small portions served in little dixie cups, which you can get more than one of, of course) and the super friendly staff, who all seem to be part of the family. The tasting area was pretty small. just a few picnic tables outdoor and a small-ish and crowded room indoors and the wines were okay. They were better than we expected, and we did end up taking a bottle home(mostly to be polite and get the tasting fee waived), but probably not a must stop unless you want the free BBQ(which might be worth it).

Hands down, my favorite stop on our recent trip to Paso. We hit 11 wineries and Whalebone was my highlight. The wines(top to bottom of the list) are all AMAZING!!! I love peppery wine and these hit the spot. The tasting room was cute and I love that it is family owned and operated. Plus, I love kitties and there were several there. LOVE this place and it will be on my list next time I am in Paso. BRAVO Whalebone!!!

Definitely worth a visit. The wines are not the BEST in Paso but they are still good. The service is always great there. And they give you crackers to go with your tasting. Great family run place Will definitely be back.

We have a great time every time we visit here. The staff and owners are always friendly and welcoming and love telling stories about their wines. In my opinion, Whalebone is consistently producing some of the best cabernet sauvignon wines on the westside of the Paso Robles AVA. The«Bob Wine» blend is a tasty and fun wine I could drink every night. We brought the kids and they had a good time running around outside and exploring the actual fossilized whalebone at the tasting room.

Up on a hill is a tiny stone cottage with cats, a super nice family, and really good wine. Did I mention they have cats? So, I’d say the wine is about three stars, good blends and cabs but nothing spectacularly tasty. They did have a sale on one years cab which was a great deal so stop in because you never know. They have some patio tables so it’s a good place to open a bottle and have some yummy snacks.

Very drinkable wines. Very nice family run place. Great cats. They have a vineyard of Cab and they use that in some wines. The rest of the juice comes from other providers. Whalebone blends the juice and bottles the product for a very drinkable outcome. There are a number of wines which most people would like. We bought 2011 Boneyard, but the other wines were very nice. These are very mellow wines with great taste and low acid. Great fruit characteristics and a full mouth. These wines are not for long term storage — these are for drinking right now. You can get better wines around Paso for a lower price, but it takes some ardent investigation. Take the sure road to Whalebone and enjoy.

It’s always hard for me to write a review when it’s a place I love. I never think my words will do them justice. But I’ll do my best. Whalebone was an accidental find several years ago. My fiancé and I took a last minute drive through the back roads of Paso. It was an overcast late winter day. Chilly and slightly drizzly. The mist clung to the large Oak trees making the winding roads seem like something out of a fairytale. We had no where in particular to go, just decided to explore places previously unknown to us. By chance we turned down the right road. Out of the fog, we saw a small hill. Perched atop was an adorable barn-style building. We knew this looked like a perfect place to stop. We drove up the little driveway, and found ourselves to be the only ones in the small lot. We worried the place may be closed. It was after all the off season. But we were in luck, open it was! At the door we were greeted by a few friendly cats. Being animal lovers we found this be a great sign. Inside was a cozy bar, with family photos and country music playing lightly in the background. There we met Bob’s wife(sorry, I forgot her name!). She was friendly, kind, and took her time explaining each wine and the stories behind them. The Bob’s wine story is one of the best wine stories I’ve heard! Between the friendly owner, residents animals, warmness of the building, and beautiful vista’s we were hooked. That’s not even to mention the wonderful wines. Whalebone is hands down one of the best wineries in Paso. It’s unpretentious and welcoming. They’re very ‘come-as-you-are’, and genuinely want you to enjoy their wine. They specialize in some fabulous pure cab’s, and cab blends. A red wine lovers paradise. If you’re new to the wine scene, try Whalebone. I can guarantee you’ll be welcomed with open arms and fabulous wine.
