when I walked in place was very clean! The nice lady who handle me at the cash register was very nice and very helpful if I had any questions. Although empty on a Saturday evening I’m sure it’s probably a lot busier during lunch but nonetheless great atmosphere. The horchata was good not watered down and the tacos were excellent not over cooked moist meat good steak portions. Refried beans were hot and moist and over very good but the miss was the rice although hot and moist the flavor was missed kind of on the bland side but over great place this will be my new go to for tacos way better than el gallo

Come try this place! I’m a little spoiled by the variety and quality of regional Mexican restaurants that we have in the city, but Volver still managed to pleasantly surprise me. Their menu goes well beyond your standard Mexican-American favorites. The tacos and burritos are great, but they also have a full selection of tortas(sandwiches) and huge huaraches(sandle-shaped masa boats with toppings) that they call«huarachotes». There are a good variety of filling/topping options, and all tacos come with the standard chopped onion and cilantro. House-made green and roasted salsas are served with chips at your table, and both work well with the various toppings. The al pastor was excellent with seasoning and pineapple bits that reminded me of Mexico City. The cecina(marinated and slightly dried beef) had excellent marinade flavor, but I like it a little more dry. The nopales(cactus) was sauteed with onion and a dried chile(maybe arbol), and made a hearty vegetarian option. Did I mention the serve beer!!! And if you can’t miss the big game, they have a couple of flat screens. Cheers!

Volver’s flavor and service are great. Just thinking about the different carne asada dishes makes my mouth water. The tampiqueña, the campestre… Each dish filled a craving I didn’t know I had. The steak nachos were so good and plentiful that I’m having trouble deciding what I’m going to order there next.

This is my second time here in two days. I tried it for the first time with my husband yesterday and we brought the kids back today for dinner. Guacamole is great and so is the skirt steak tacos. Very clean and the service is good too. Chips with a smokey salsa are too good to pass up as well. Try it! You will not be disappointed. Not a huge menu but most of the classics available.

Saw this new place on Unilocal and gave them a try. Place is new and the staff is very friendly. Went there with my wife and 2 daughters and came out full. The queso fundido appetizer was a hit with the kids and the steak in our tortas was well seasoned. The margarita was on point and their twist on the cheesecake is something you have to try.

I feel unsure about giving this new establishment four stars. I wish I could give it a 3.5 cause that’s where I’m at. I feel that no matter how much I appreciated the attentiveness of the employees, it all really boils down to what keeps us coming back even when the service isn’t that great. Am I right?.. The food, the flavor, that Sazon that just makes it different from the rest. Let’s start with basics. This is not what I would consider a ‘fast food’ taqueria like Alpastor, where you pay at the register nor is it med-casual like Zacatacos. I would place it in same ‘sit down, take your time’ category as Coculas. All very good places. The attention from our server was on point but we were the only ones that were there at that moment. I simply ordered a taco de Cecina, which as plain as it was,(as it’s supposed to be) really delicious. The meat was tender, and flavorful. Generous meat portion placed on two corn tortillas, very slightly toasted on the grille. Cilantro and onion on top, with a wedge of lime on the side. A perfect lunch for someone not that hungry. The other plate served was one taco de carne asada and two tacos de alpastor. Both served with cilantro and onion on top with lime wedges on the side(I appreciate that) unfortunately both choices seemed a little too dry for our taste. The taco de alpastor didn’t have that slow-cooked, crispy charred taste. It honestly tasted more like pork adobada grilled with pieces of pineapple. It wasn’t very flavorful and sad to say a little overcooked. The taco with carne asada was pretty much the same texture-wise. A little too dry and had too much of a lime taste to it, not much seasoning otherwise. I will say that the portions are good as I hoped they would be after looking at some of their prices on the menu. $ 8.75 for a torta seems ridiculously overpriced. The house salsa is actually really good, it’s a medium spicy green tomatillo sauce. Very flavorful. They serve it on a rather small bowl. One per table with chips. Same bowl used for your meal. We asked for seconds. As I said I would’ve preferred to give them a 3.5 but considering they are a fairly new establishment, there’s hope yet and always room for improvement. I would re-think some of those prices, otherwise I really hope they have a long successful business life. Give them a shot and create your own opinion! Salud! P. s. We paid $ 17.86 for a lemonade, 4 sit down tacos and 3 to go. They have Taco Tuesday’s. If you buy two you get one free, or you can make it a taco dinner with two tacos and add beans and rice for free. P. s.s Our server Benito made us feel at home, thank you so much!

The food is amazing! Service was very good. Would highly recommend to anyone in the area looking to get good gourmet mexican food. Not you typical taqueria. Dessert was also very delicious!

I have become more or less of a taco aficionado in the area, dedicated to spending my lunch break trying the best tacos the area has to offer. These were really good, edging our del carmen for my #1 spot. First off, the tacos were bigger than usual and had lots of meat in them. They were also loaded with cilantro and onions(which I like so I didn’t mind.) the green sauce was better than most others that I have tried as well. The beans were not oily and runny and the rice was soft and flavorful. Last but not least, the food was not greasy and oily and did not leave me feeling like slime after I ate them. This is mainly why I say these are the best in the area.

Absolutely incredible Mexican food. Not surprisingly, my wife loved the chicken tacos, while I loved the steak tacos. Also, while both my wife and I have lived in the city and have taken advantage of the cities great margaritas(and Mexican food), we’ve found that this place has(hands down) the best margaritas in Chicago. Very friendly staff, family-owned feel.

Love a good Mexican restaurant! Many of them out there but very few acquire the taste and seasoning. This was my first time at this restaurant and loved the steak. Tender and juicy and filled with flavor. Will definitely recommend.

Mexican is by far my favorite. Having said that I am usually very picky about my mexican food. Let me say for what this place is I give 5 starts for the experience. As a cantina they do it right. An upscale taqueira meanwhile offering some gourmet mexican dishes. The food is as authentic as any good mexican restaurant. I felt the steak was a bit chewy for my liking. Their salsas are some the best and come warm, which was different and I enjoyed. Overall the service was good. I say check it out!
