Great specials, great food, great service. I’ve had the buffet(daily from 11am-3pm $ 8 or $ 6 with drink purchase) and have ordered off the menu and everything I’ve had has been delicious. I’ve also ordered take out for their weekly taco/burrito specials and once again, great food. Love the service; very friendly. Definitely my favorite Pepe’s in the area.

Food was great! My friend and I went and finished eating right before closing. Customer service could’ve been nicer but you can’t blame the tired workers. What annoyed me a little though was their lack of English as they were communicating more with my Mexican friend even though I was the one inviting and doing the talking. It’s all good though lol.

Food was cold. Waitress seemed annoyed. Bad service! This was always our favorite Pepe’s, but we will NOT be back!

This review is a little late but on 9÷10÷15 I had gone here with my mother, first time at a Pepe’s. The atmosphere while dim was nonetheless pleasing and the service was fast, friendly and helpful. Food is Mexican food, large selection and average prices for a restaurant($ 3-$ 10 avg) much better then Taco Bell, you get to choose an unlimited buffet if you want and there is a small bar and 4 video poker machines as well. Restaurant is clean too and quiet. Many people eating there. Our 2nd round of drinks, Pepsi and Diet Pepsi were on the house. I recommend this Pepe’s for everyone that likes eating out or buffets with a Mexican flare. 5⁄5 stars.

I’ve given this place a few chances only cause I live down the block, but each time I’ve been disappointed. Only non mexicans would think this was good mexican food. Everything I’ve tried on the menu has been bad. Except for maybe the fried ice cream for dessert. It’s way overpriced for being below average food. I’d rather travel to get some good mexican food than go down the block to this place. smh

Just experienced their lunch buffet and was extremely surprised at how great the food was. Great food and great service. Will definitely go there again for lunch.

I give them a 2 becuse the food was good. It was a good Margarita, but the service sucked. I have been here several times with bad service every time. I had to ask the bus boy for napkins and a refill on drink. Wheeer is my server. Great food and drinks but if service is bad it ruins the whole night.

I love going to Pepe’s but this one wasn’t very good. The staff was nice and the the place was clean. I had a frozen strawberry margarita and it was excellent. My boyfriend had a margarita on the rocks and it wasn’t very good. It was warm and just didn’t taste right. I ordered a cheese quesadilla dinner which had more tortilla then cheese. My boyfriend ordered the steak tacos and there was no problem with his food.

I give this 1 star. Right after my meal I got really sick. Most likely food poisoning. I haven’t been back since and I don’t recommend it. It isn’t authentic food but it’s not Taco Bell. It’s somewhere in-between and not in a good way. Meh food. I’m never going bac. BADEXPERIENCE.

I give this particular Pepes 3 stars, not because the food is that great, but for the service. Although the food has always been fresh and flavorful, it is nothing spectacular when it comes to Mexican food. There are many other choices for authentic Mexican food in Chicago. However, the lunch buffet is a good deal with a variety of choices, from make your own tacos and/or fajitas to chile relleno to a variety of salads. The staff is friendly and always inform me of specials every time I take out from here. If you’re in the mood for quick Mexican food, skip Taco Bell and come here.

Great food… the lunch buffet is awesome! Food is always fresh and hot! Service is great never had a problem. My family really enjoys this Pepe’s best food by far. We have tried others nothing compares. One thing… They need to find another tamale maker. The tamales are so bad. I try tamales from all over.

This is the best pepes in these suburbs. Foods decent here for the price your paying. Good original pepes tomatoe salsa. Food always consistent. Atleast here you know what you’re getting unlike other pepes in the area.

Meh. Pepe’s is so meh. I think the only reason I come to Pepe’s is the for the location and the nostalgia. Last time my family went here even though they weren’t that busy they put us in a room that is apparently used for clubbing. Seriously there were neon lights, strobe lights, and a fog machine. One of the lights turned on while we were dining. Service was slow. I think they forgot that they had put us in the club room. Food is adequate pseudo Mexican. We’ll probably come again because they’re so close to my parent’s house. But I won’t be the one suggesting it.

Guys. There was a $ 4.99 lunch buffet with the purchase of a beverage. How can you go wrong with that!!! OK, so the food wasn’t SPECTACULAR… but for $ 5, you can get chips and guac and fajitas and tacos and salad and appetizers. After adding salt to everything, It was like taco time heaven. Free refills on the delicious horchata. Overall a pretty decent place. And in all reality here’s the run down of why it’s only 3 stars and not 4 or 5: ~The thing I liked most? The appetizer-y stuff. ~I tried all of the meats and they just weren’t really great. Kind of bland, lacking distinction. ~The guacamole was my least favorite guacamole ever. It tasted watered down and flavorless… like fake unsalted guac. But I mean… it was practically free… so I can’t judge too harshly, right? ~The biggest problem? After one plate we were SOFULL that we could barely move.

After being seated with 3 other friends, we weren’t even given menus because the 19 yr old waiter thought we were intoxicated. Way to lose $ 100 or more for the night!!! Never again! Don’t even think about dining here. All we wanted was a nice dinner and we got nothing! Not even water! Don’t waste your time!!!

I’ve been coming here since I was about 4 years old with my family. The menu has changed a little throughout the years, but never a total revamp. I like that I know what to expect. Some of my favorites are the chips and salsa, beef tostadas, chicken tacos, chicken enchiladas suiza and a beef burrito suiza. The Mayan is a favorite combo, with tostada suiza, taco, and enchilada suiza, your choice of chicken, beef, or pork. Also comes with rice and beans. Definitely enough food to share! I can’t think of any time that we had a problem with the service and our food order has always been correct. Only one minor complaint comes to mind, when we went a couple weeks ago, even though the lunch buffet was advertised, they did not have it on the day we went(a Saturday). Either way, I had my favorites, and I look forward to going back again next time I’m in town.

Heard that this location was reopening on Monday April 16th, 2012. Stopped in for a Margarita to check it out. Sat down in the bar area and met the new owner Juan. Found out that this was their opening day. The restaurant had been completely repainted and was looking very new. There were new flat scene TV’s at each corner of the bar. The owner said that he intended to offer a lunch buffet Monday through Friday for $ 6.99 and half price Margarita’s on Tuesday and Thursday. I ordred a traditional medium Margarita at the bar. Complimentary chips and salsa were provided free of charge. The Margarita had a good taste without beng too tart and seemed to pack a reasonable amount of tequilla for the $ 9.99 price tag. My wife and I returned for dinner on Thursday. I suggested that we again sit in th bar area due to the fact that there were two TV’s and I noticed that one had the Hawk’s game and the other had the Bull’s. We both ordered medium Margarita’s, my wife a Mango and me a traditional. The bonus today was that they were offered at half price $ 4.98. I explained mine above, but my wife had the mango and she said that it was great. The mango mix that they use gives a nice fresh fruit taste. My wife ordred the Carne Asada which came with rice & beans. It was cooked medium rare exactly as she asked. She felt that it was a generous portion which was rich in taste. I order the taco dinner with 2 pork taco’s and 1 chicken taco on flour tortilla. The pork taco’s were tender and had a rich mildly spicy taste. The chicken taco was not as spicy, but also was moist and flavorful. The beams were covered with a little cheese and had a nice taste. The rice had sauce on it and aslo was tasty. Our service was consistant and we enjoyed our meal. We plan on returning in the near future to try the buffet. I attached a picture of the cold salad area of the buffet that I copied on my phone from a picture by the bar. When we come for lunch, I will get a picture of the hot side.

Tasted eh, but about an hour after I got home both my mom and I felt like crap. Service was ok but unfriendly. The waitress hardly cracked a smile. I’ve had a lot better mexican food from a lot worse looking places in the city. They also did not make me feel like crap afterwards like Pepe’s. It is definitely a bit pricey for the quality of food. The steak in my enchilada had probably been sitting on the grill all day. It was almost pure black and some pieces were hard like jerkey. There is definitely better mexican in the area that also serves alcohol. They also use cheddar cheese on anything«suiza». The only thing I liked about Pepe’s was that we received more tortilla chips as soon as our basket was empty. All in all stay away! If you ever find yourself in Hickory Hills, there are a lot better restaurants in town.
