Guadalajara Cafe

Great food and great prices! We had margaritas, guacamole, tacos, burritos, flautists, and a tostada. It was all excellent. And the prices were more than reasonable. We will definitely be back!

Went there for breakfast this morning. I had the Huevos Rancheros. They were very authentic and tasted great. The service by the owner was awesome. The place is clean and if you like to watch soccer on TV they have Two Big Screen TVs. I will be back for sure.

Went with the family on a sunday night, about 15 people in there with us. Good service, $ 1.00 tacos, $ 3 beers, and good chips and salsa. Al pastor and chicken tacos were pretty good, especially for a dollar, but the carne asada tacos won my stomach over. Definitely will come back to try the rest of the menu, good experience

Best chabela in town love the jumbo shrimp its my favorite hole in the wall restaurant but i come for the bar

I really enjoy it here. I work next door and never eat here but today I thought I’d give it a try. Had the shrimp cocktail. It was loaded with avocado and shrimp. I’m nice and full! Fast service. Good food. I’ll be coming back.

Good authentic Mexican food. The service is extremely slow and the atmosphere full. But it’s a gold place to go if you want authenticity.

The food is good and the owner is very friendly. My husband loved the carne asada chimichanga con Chorizo. I enjoyed the carnitas burrito topped with verde sauce! Mmmmmm.

When the owner is in the food is amazing. If there is a woman on the register and not the male owner… run. the food is only flavorful when the man is there. The place looks run down, old, and like it’s someone’s garage but the food and hospitality is great.

I been living at palm desert over 28 year… back then to go get some good homemade authentic mexican food, we have to drive near city’s to taste a good mexican food.
But since i found this little gem at the desert (palm desert)…this place be came my almost every day place to eat! !!.
If i feel having breakfast they open at 10pm, i recommend the chilaquiles with carne asada (chilaquiles is a fry chips corn tortillas dip it in a red or green sauce, queso fresco, sour cream and dice yellow onions).
If i go for lunch on Sundays. .i like to order menudo!
And on the weekend this place have karaōke (Fridays, Saturdays and Tuesday)…
On the weekend this place having specials… like $$ 1 dlr price tacos, carne asada, chicken and pork.
Try this place, great service and great food!

Food is delicious and the staff is pleasant. Price is great for the authentic Mexican food.

Service was excellent, food was better. Excellent value for the stomach and wallet. If you haven’t eaten authentic Mexican food this restaurant is a must.

Eh, fat in my pupusa. Weird chunks of something in my salsa. Old tortilla chips. Seems expensive!

I love mexican marinated meats. I ordered a plate of the barbacoa with beans and avocado, not on the menu in that fashion but they were happy to accommodate. It was superb, large chunks of tender and moist beef, good with the special hot salsa. They also have carne asada and pastor. The owner was our waiter, real nice guy whose home town is actually Guadalajara, we chatted about the town which is beautiful by the way. He said he had sold this restaurant in April, but just took it back a short time ago and is happy about it. Small friendly place with great food.

I am only giving Guadalajara Café 3 stars because it was not very clean and was very cluttered. They need to «un-​junk» the place.
They even offer Karaōke… hmmmm…didn’t quite fit in the vibe of the «mom & pop» place. So, if you are in to Karaōke, you could probably add a star.
Now, moving on to the food…
My life-​long search is to find the perfect crispy shredded beef taco (which I believe to have found, but why stop the search!), so I had to order one of those. My husband always jokes that it’s just an «American taco», but I don’t care… I like them crispy.
So then, I’m glancing over the menu, and I saw PAPUSAS. Holy $#%&!!! You just don’t find papusas in just any Mexican food joint, so I asked the server if they were homemade, and she said «yes, you can even watch»! Yahoo!!!
So I ordered the «mixed» papusa (cheese, beans and carnitas).
I even took a video of the woman making them.
I was on Cloud 9.

I hated it, he loved it! He ordered a shrimp tostada And said it was the best he has ever had. I Ordered enchiladas. The shrimp tostada was huge piled high with shrimp tomato, avocado etc. I think it was the mixture of spicy and cold but sauce on the enchiladas made me sick to my stomach before I even got half way through. The rice was so oily you could see it on the plate. Fountain sodas but no straws, each meal came out at least 5 – 10 mins apart so my daughter got her bean and cheese burrito about 15 mins after my husband got his and 10 mins after I got mine… maybe because it was 7pm on a weeknight and no one else was there? Or maybe there was a reason no one else was there…

They are under new ownership and have the best Carne Asada tacos around. At $ 1.75 per taco and $ 1.00 tacos at happy hour… what a great deal… and If you get Jose as your waiter, he is a very dear person. I cannot wait to try more items on the menu. Been there twice and only had the tacos and chips and salsa… oh and by the way, they bring you 2 salsas, a hot and a mild

What a dive. We were the only ones in the restaurant for about 90 minutes. We thought our food was never going to be served. It took nearly 40 minutes for a chicken burrito and a chili relleno. We had to flag down the waitress 5 or more times for more water, chips and salsa even though she walked past us at least 10 times to adjust a Youtube video of Carlo Santana on a new computer and sound system, which two other employees were playing with. I had to walk up to the counter to pay since she was too lazy to bring us the check. When I did she had not calculated the cost. I will never return here.

Big portions of good Mexican food. The salsa is spicier than I’m used to, but it was so good, I couldn’t stop.
I ordered the chicken burrito lunch special. There was plenty to eat there, and it was quite tasty, and relatively inexpensive. It included a large burrito with the works and sides of beans and rice. The burrito itself had been grilled on both sides, which I always appreciate. The rice and beans were fairly standard. A little bit of cheese on the beans. My compadre ordered the beef taquito lunch, and substituted the beans for more rice. He, too, enjoyed his food.
We were both left with more than we could eat, and took some back to the hotel to save for dinner. It was still good cold.
I ordered the horchata to drink with it. She brought me this preposterously huge mug, which I quickly destroyed, and ordered another. In total, I drank what I calculated to be a half gallon of the stuff. So good.
We were the only people in the restaurant, since it was Independence Day. We got great service, and the waitress was super up-​beat and friendly. I will definitely come back next time I’m in the area.

Oh, what a bummer. I love a hole in the wall and after reading the reviews was looking forward to a yummy meal.
I don’t know if it was the weather, a rainy Sunday, but there was no one in the restaurant and the lights were off. There was one person working there and she turned out to be the waitress, the cashier and the cook. What? It almost seemed like they weren’t expecting any customers to come in that day.
At least she finally turned on the lights, but it was pretty depressing in there as the windows were covered with Mexican blankets and no ambiance as we were the only customers the whole time.
Chips and salsa were nothing to write home about. The salsa was good, but then again we were starving.
We shared pork/​cheese pupusas and a carne asada burrito. My bf never had pupusas and it’s a bummer this was his 1^st experience eating them.
I will say, she made them fresh, but they were too doughy and just not that tasty. The burrito: I don’t know how it’s possible to make beef, cheese, rice, beans and salsa taste like nothing, but she managed! The tortilla was not soft and it seemed like the burrito fixings were not fresh. No grill marks or tasty flavor on the beef.
The only consolation was that it was cheap and the waitress/​cashier/​cook was nice.
As we drove out of town, we saw all the other places we should’ve eaten at. Oh well, whaddya gonna do?

Fast, Friendly and Fantastic food. (F that was a lot of words starting with f).
This is a quintessential family owned Mexican restaurant that was immediately apparent by the 12 year-​old son who was my waiter. He was great and we actually talked a while about how crazy he thought I was hiking in Joshua tree in the middle of summer. But, I degrees.
The prices were reasonable my check (with the items listed below) was $ 14. The décor was mediocre with a out of place TV over the tables and Mexican quilted blankets blocking blazing sun from the windows.
In order of importance:
The Chips and Salsa: Chips were crunchy thick and warm with really really good homemade (?) salsa and my waiter friend kept the basket full.
The margarita? at $ 3 it was fantastic. Only thing I would change is that the rim was salted with table salt, it would have been nice if it were the bigger grained margarita salt.
The Carne Asada I ordered? Well seasoned and cooked. A generous portion accompanied by a generous portion of rice and beans.
Great family run place to go to if you want to experience a true Mexican dinner.
