I’d love to give them a good rating, I would! I live nearby and, when they opened, we were happy to have another restaurant to choose from as the pickings are slim in our area! We have tried them several times, each time saying it would be our last. The food is ok — the selection is limited, but there are a few great choices. The drinks are reasonably priced but its standard golf club beer — ie, don’t expect anything fancy or seasonal. I’ve read other reviews about sitting outside — and it’s true, it’s beautiful on the patio spring through fall — and we typically choose to sit out there weather permitting. The biggest drawback of this restaurant is its staff. Again, I agree with one reviewer who states there is a waitress who is phenomenal, however, right down to the hostest, the rest should be fired on the spot and interviews started immediately. You are often treated like you are a bother, we have gone several times when its damned near empty and told there is no seating. The last straw was a few weeks ago, four of us decided to stop by after a movie. We were in two cars and two of us got there first. It was empty, with only two tables occupied. We requested a table for four and were directed to a table in front of the live singer. We told the waitress it would be difficult to chat and asked if we could sit toward the back. She seems perplexed and asked another waitress if we could sit in her section. The second waitress was obviously annoyed and tried to steer us to a table for two. With the live singer and others trying to eat, it was difficult to communicate with her, especially with her attitude, but we tried to explain we were a table of four and we wanted to have a few drinks, giggle, chat and socialize. She said she had no seating for us and tried again to steer us past three empty tables to the one in front of the singer. We told her«Never mind, we’d go somewhere else.» and proceeded to leave. She said, in a very loud voice, «AREYOUKIDDINGME!?» and started talking about us loud enough for us to hear as we were leaving. I wrote a short note to the owner and restaurant manager and, when I heard nothing, wrote another note and left a voice mail. I’ve heard nothing. That night we went to the Sawmill Grill in Oxford and had a great meal and a wonderful time with polite friendly wait staff.( ) We will NOT give the Ball and Thistle another chance.

What a find. All we had(4 of us) was quite good. Service very pleasant, prices are a tad high. Very old clubby atmosphere. We go there when we visit friends who live in Parkesburg. We have only been there for lunch so far but maybe next time for dinner

Not sure why anyone would give this place 5 stars, must work there or drink a lot. The food is average at best, I looked the menu and could hardly find anything I would eat at a restaurant. The waitress was good, but the food was not so good.

Went there for half off burger night and had a great burger. Price was very reasonable for party of three. When family comes in from out of state we like to go there for dinner.

Always have good service. We usually split a burger(portions are huge). Very pleasant to sit on the porch overlooking the golf course.

I’ve been here several times over the past couple years. Food is average. Nothing very interesting. It’s also very slow coming out. The service seems fine, so must be the kitchen. I saw some mention there’s outdoor seating but I’ve never been offered to sit outside. I called tonight about their outdoor seating and if they allow dogs. They do not. How is sitting with a dog outside affect anything? Although it’s confident for me traveling sometimes, I think I’m done.

Good food, excellent service and a cozy fire. A bit pricey, but the half-price specials make it an affordable date night. I’m looking forward to hanging out on the patio this summer!

Great food and excellent smiling service from Josh. Cocktails were fantastic and reasonably priced. Cant believe they close at 9 pm on a Friday night. We would definitely come here and hang if they were open later!

We’ve eaten here often. The facility is nice. Especially in a nice summer evening you can sit out side over looking the golf course. The food is pretty good too. They usually run week night specials like ½ price crab cakes. The down side… They’re not always friendly. A lot of times the staff seems a little annoyed that your there. We’ve had one waitress that’s works there pretty regularly, Beverly, that seems to be the exception. If you get her you’ll have a better experience than most. We recently stopped in for a late dinner and the hostess told us there were no open tables. Looking through the door there were quite a few open tables. When we asked how long the wait would be she said it would be a while because everyone was there to see the band play??? Never really answering the question of the wait time. Very disappointing!

I went to Ball and Thistle for lunch with my relatives. We sat outside, and it was a beautiful day. The waitress, Diane, was very attentive and nice. I tried the Blue Crab Ravioli, and my mom got the Malibu fish tacos. The Blue Crab Ravioli was very good. I had a little bit of my mom’s tacos, and they were okay. Overall, I had a pleasant lunch with my great aunt and uncle.

Been meaning to review this place since my family and I actually dined there two weekends in a row! Menu offered many selections from pasta, seafood, steak, chicken, etc. plus great specials. I ordered a sea bass special on my first visit and a risotto the second time around. Both delicious and and served in timely fashion. My 7-year-old liked the kids menu and also could order from the regular menu Atmosphere is casual plus some live entertainment that made the ambiance warm and inviting. I agree with the reviewer who says ask for Angela, great server! Looking forward to dining at Ball and Thistle in the warmer months as it seems the deck/patio would be a good time.

Have enjoyed numerous lunches and dinners here and have never been disappointed. Invited friends to join us last night(Sat) for dinner and music on the patio. Great food, great service, great entertainment, perfect evening for dining out… need I say more?

Okay bar food. The quality seems to have dropped off over the last couple of years. The atmosphere is nice and you have a view of the scenic course from the window or when the weather is nice from their outside eating area. My two recent visits merited two rating on food and service. I gave it w three based on atmosphere and one great meal awhile back.

Watching a beautiful sunset, overlooking the rolling hills of a golf course, while sitting outside on the patio enjoying a delicious meal — this is the good life! Especially since the prices and selection are great. The pub offers everything from appetizers to a five-course meal, the dress code is casual, and it’s suitable for a family, a couple dining out, a golfer. The food was delicious, service was excellent, and live music on the weekend made this a great dining experience. They also have a Sunday brunch and dinner buffet. This place is a well-kept secret, right off Rt. 1.
