Not so good. Overpriced and very mediocre food, albeit a wide selection. There are many other Chinese Buffets to choose in the OP, and this one does not make my top 20.

8 dollars for the lunch buffet.. that’s 16 dollars too much for the crappy stuff they serve as food.

China Star Buffet suffers from the same problem that most Chinese buffets suffer from. When it starts out, the prices are cheap and the food is of good quality. Then as the years go on the prices go up and the quality goes down. Back then I was able to eat most everything on the buffet. Last week I could only allow myself to eat fried rice and soft serve ice cream. I was wondering why they gave me so many napkins with my meal only to realize through the meal I’d be using them to spit out most of my food. Trust me when I say go to Cinzetti’s across the street. It may cost 7 dollars more but at least the risk for death is way lower.

Very good quality and clean. Hot food, and the owners are fantastic. No one can make Chinese at home for 8.99 and say they had all the dishes or even 5 at that price if u went to store and bought all the ingredients. Some people have rated this place as bad? Really? As a restaurant manager and a certified food safety professional, I am rating this place maximum stars due to the fact that I had an excellent experience. Clean, and tasty. Again, it is a buffet, and all you can eat. the owners are more than willing to help, just ask if you need anything. Enjoy it and see for your self.

Let me say, garbage garbage garbage. I made the mistake of walking into this place and loaded up a plate after noticing that the food was less than appetizing-looking. Boy did the taste match the looks. I bit into a piece of cold, dried-out chicken drumstick and proceeded to walk out. Try the Pacific buffet at 87th and Metcalf, a WORLD of difference. You’ll think you died and went to heaven, AND it was even cheaper than this crappy place.

The owners and workers are all extremely nice and provide good service. They have a large selection of dishes on the buffet, most of which are good… by chinese buffet standards. The only one that puzzles me is the«cashew» chicken… which literally does not have a single cashew in it and is mostly celery. If that’s your dish, I’d try someplace else. My favorite is the Sha Cha Chicken.

I’m very easy to please and I’ve enjoyed a few«cheap buffets» in my day. That being said this place is F*cking nasty. The quality of the food was incredibly terrible and there were few flavors to be, even marginally enjoyable. Avoid at all costs

I am reviewing this for what it is, a Chinese Buffet. As a Chinese Buffet it is worth 4 stars. Very clean, well lit, huge selection of items. If this were a sit-down Chinese fusion place, I would rate it much lower. It is a buffet people, adjust your reviews accordingly!

It’s not haute cuisine, but sometimes you just want some o’ that there buffet comfort food, you know? I thought the food was reasonably fresh & decently prepared, nothing was soggy or swimming in grease. Maybe it’s a new chef. Everything was scrupulously clean & the service was prompt & friendly. They could have a little more variety on the dessert table(I’m not a fan of chocolate pudding) but the fact that they had a really good hot-and-sour soup made it OK in my book.

Barf. –Greasy, fried concoctions. –Poor quality. –Lacking flavor. –Not unique at all. Your typical Chinese buffet. Standard price, mediocre food, one killer stomach ache. Don’t eat here unless you have exclusive access to a toilet and privacy for the next few hours.

Crazy Buffet is the ONLY Asian buffet I could ever imagine giving more than 3 stars to. With that said, China Star fulfilled all expectations. Steam tables probably closer than I’d like to admit to having the food in the danger zone for contamination, soggy fried food, limp veggies, canned pudding… no sushi and no shrimp?! But, what do you really expect? Probably everything I mentioned above. It’s the norm in the buffet market. So, what made it get 3 stars you ask? It was CLEAN. The food was hot. My drink NEVER went dry. My server spoke English articulately. My table was constantly prebussed. THEBESTPART: REGULARMUSIC broadcasting through the house audio system. If you embark on a journey to a Chinese buffet, walk into it knowing what you’re going to get, enjoy the great service at China Star, and make that the lone reason you come back. Their food is no different than any other…

I went with a friend for dinner a couple of weeks ago, we just both wanted quick Chinese food. The service/staff was good the prices are good. The buffet has a lot of variety. The atmosphere was OK. I would not go back. I would say the food is of the lowest quality available. We both felt bad after eating, not sick just blaaa, you know that crappy feeling.

I’m sure you can empathize when you get the hankering for Chinese, but you want to try something other than your usual comfort food. The answer… a new buffet. Unfortunately, I was near the China Star when I had these urges. The buffet had about 14 different selections, so I took a little sample of the majority of them. A little Hot and sour soup, and some finger appetizers. I have to agree with a previous reviewer that the staff was friendly and kept my drink topped off… thats about the extent of my compliments. The Hot and Sour soup tasted like the water you would soak your dirty socks in… Hell the socks could have still been in there… Either way there was no flavor whatsoever… even with the additions of scallions, soy sauce and crunchy noodles… I couldn’t stomach it… Crab rangoon was tough and again I will use the adjective that will appear more than once on this review… tasteless. Spring rolls were crunchy but the insides were an indistinguishable paste that in no way resembled cabbage. Of the 7 entrees that I took a small portion of, they all tasted the same.Bland. There was 2 exceptions. one of them being named Sha Sha Chicken. They were so spicy, it took two layers of tongue tissue off. I think Sha Sha was one of the oriental girls in the kitchen that knocked the jar of hot chili powder into the chicken.. Fried offerings were soggy and mushy, even though it was only 10 minutes into their business hours. I think the kitchen should stock up on some spices other than hot powders. It was evident they were completely out. The dessert bar faired only marginally better… even the jello squares were rubbery and if they hadn’t been colored, I wouldn’t have been able to tell what flavor it was supposed to be. The generic chocolate and banana pudding was probably the height of my visit. So sad. To heighten my anxiety, there was a man in the buffet sticking a temperature probe into some of the offerings, and speaking his readings into a small device that looked to be a recorder… Of course I’m thinking health inspector!!! I will appoint myself taste inspector and give this place a failing grade. A real disappointment. Save your $ 8 and drive on by. I just hope in twelve hours I don’t relive the heat of those two dishes.

I would like to first and objectively state that this rating has nothing to do with the staff, they are friendly and hard working. Our drinks never ran dry. If not for the staff however, this would be a one star rating. The food was bleh all the way through. Nothing was outstanding everything was merely good enough. to get by. The food was not fresh, the green beans were not crisp, everything was just meh… The one other positive thing is this restaurant actually has the good brand of fortune cookies so you wont get anything really stupid like the ones at Pei Wei. «You should talk with a friend today.» Thanks for NOTHING!!! Overall China Star is about feeding a large number of people mediocre Chinese food at too high a price in my opinion at 8.49 per person. I’ll pass.

The darkness has descendend Everything is bleak Depression has set in The restaurant on a hill Sucks your will to live Oh the despair Of the stark interior A Russian novel Has Nothing on the China Star I went to the China Star while I was waiting on a new windshield installation just down the street. I had time to kill so I figured a little walk and a leisurely buffet would serve me well. Unfortunately this place put me in a funk for nearly a week. The interior is so bland and cold that it almost literally takes your breath away. It might remind someone of a restaurant in an Alexander Payne movie. I could just see Schmidt sitting in there eating moo shoo pork the week after his wife died. I wish I were joking, but that’s what I was thinking of the entire time I was eating. I can’t really say anything bad about the food. I mean if you subscribe to the food is fuel argument then I was definitely refueled, but it was like putting 87 octane in a racecar. All the dishes tasted the same, it seemed kind of silly to get different things. By my third trip to the buffet I just grabbed a half plate of the food closest to my table. It wasn’t worth the effort to get something labeled differently. All that being said, the food wasn’t awful. I could chew it and swallow it and it had some flavor and that flavor was mildly pleasant. While I was in there I saw the counter lady from the windshield place that helped me. When I got back to pick up my car we talked about our experience and our need for a Prozac prescription. I truly feel that she is my sister now. When you share an experience like eating at China Star, the bond is strong and can probably never be broken.

Hmmmm, what to say, what to say… I had pretty high expectations of this place. I went for dim sum on Sunday and there was a large group of people there. The restaurant that we were at was not large enough to accommodate their entire group sitting together, so I overheard them saying that they wanted to go to China Star Super Buffet. I thought for sure that this place had to be good if a group of Asian people had all agreed on going. So, I made a mental note that I was going to try it out. Not only does this place smell bad before you even get in the actual restaurant, the food is not good. I’ve never tasted so many flavorless things at a Chinese restaurant. I guess it could be worse if the food actually was rotten or tasted bad, but the food didn’t taste like anything at all. Ugh, I am becoming extremely disappointed in the Asian food in this part of the country. I am beginning to think that I should just give up on Asian food for the time that I am here.
