My critics have spoken so I will first address their concerns. 1. It was noisy. Real noisy. But not Jimmy Johns noisy. 2. In light of rising overhead and the duty to maintain margin discipline, the prices were reasonable. Moreover, the market appears to bear the prices as seat demand outweighed supply. Last comment is per the next Janet Yellen. The food was good but maybe my expectations were too high due to rave Unilocal reviews. The food is authentic NOLA, but the po boys not quite as good as Absolutely Fresh’s. Cajun food can be heavy so note well. The highlight for me was the sauce for the boudin balls. The night we were there it was 97. The AC wasn’t adequate and it was 83 by the kitchen. Poor chef! The building faces west so this needs to be fixed ASAP.

My new favorite place to eat when I’m in Omaha. The Kickin Chicken and pasta was the best

The place is small but the atmosphere is big. The food is awesome! Everyone there looked like they were enjoying themselves.

What a great find! Just a quick trip up I-680 and you feel like you left Omaha. It’s a small place, so you might have to wait, but it’s worth it. I had the pecan crusted tuna over Cajun rice with asparagus. It had amazing flavors and the sauce was spectacular. I was not expecting this quality of food at a casual resturant. I asked to speak to the chef and I let him know how impressive the meal was. I’ll add this to my «favorites»!

I have been trying to get to Mouth of the South for about 9 months it seems now. Finally worked out location wise for us to swing in for lunch this week. Luckily we got here earlier in the lunch rush. The restaurant quickly filled up with a number of groups coming in and leaving because it was full. I really like the dark décor and open feeling of the room. Silverware was brought out in a little brown paper bag with the restaurant name on the front. I thought that was unique and different. The food all looked good. I have heard many good things and it was tough for me to choose. I ended up going with the crabcakes and a side of beans and rice. The crab cakes came on their own salad with a nice Vinaigrette. The quality of the greens was impressive. I really enjoyed it and I am not a salad person. The Crab Cakes themselves were just delicous flavorful tangy and the perfect crisp on the outside and soft warm on the inside. going from that back to the sour Vinaigrette was a perfect pairing The beans and rice were also very good. perfect spice and flavors and right textures. I cant wait to go back and try more of the menu.

One question I asked myself after eating at MoTS: Why haven’t I been here before?! I got the Pulled Pork sandwich and my friend got the Shrimp Po’boy. Both were delicious! The pulled pork was tender and the hand-battered onion rings?! Soooo good. The batter wasn’t too thick. They’re more like the homemade kind that kind of crumbles a bit but in a good way. I also tried their Moscow mule and had a sip of my friend’s Creole kiss cocktail. The mule was alright and the Creole kiss kind of tasted like cough syrup to me. The drinks were kind of a miss, but the food more than made up for it. Another downside was that they ran out of their Boudin balls, which I was hoping to try after reading all the reviews beforehand, but I guess that just means I’ll have to make a trip back!

This place was great! I’m from Texas so I pride myself in knowing good southern food. We started with the crab dip app which was decious… spicy and just a touch of sweetness. For our entrées we had the pecan crusted tuna which was good… a little on the sweet side but still tasty. I got the scallop & crawfish pasta that was out of this world delicious. We both had ice cold beers but I may try some of their delcious looking specialty drinks next time. It’s a tiny spot but good service & great food. We will definitely be back.

Mouth of the south is one of many hidden gems along a stretch in North Omaha. It feels like the Main Street from the town I grew up in, except with a lot more traffic as it has become a major street connecting North O to downtown. I drove last this stretch many times without glancing twice at the businesses because the area gets a bad rap… But after reading reviews from fellow Unilocalers I have found a real great area for food… If you have checked out Historic Florance, do yourself a favor and get there! On this trip to MOTS I ordered wings and crab cakes to start, the wings were slow cooked and fell off the bone, easily top 5 wing in Omaha. The crab cakes were delicious and filling, served on a mountain of fresh greens in a light vinaigrette. Had I known how many greens it came with I wouldn’t have ordered a salad for dinner! :) I had yellow fin on my salad and it was seared perfectly on the outside while keeping the middle nice and juicy. I noticed the corn bread coming out with he BBQ and had to order a side for myself, best $ 1 I spent all day.

I’d been here a total of two meals and definitely worth all the rave and praise. Neat little venue, quick and courteous service and star of the show food. I highly recommend the crab dip accompanied with a colorful array of tortilla chips and the oh-so-tasty Boudin balls(sidebar: sadly weren’t available the second go around). The smoke pit is a hungry man’s sandwich packed with flavor and tender meats. Shrimp po’ boy was a fresh contrast though the shrimp quantity and size lacked a bit, but nonetheless a simple and delicious lunch favorite. I also had the gumbo on a cold winter day which provided a nice bowl of warmth and down south comfort. Will return in the near future

This is a fun place. When I walked in, I definitely got the feeling of walking in to some tiny dive in the south. I had the catfish po’boy. The fish way juicy and flaky just the way I like it. The fries were surprisingly good. We went at an off time, so we were the only customers for awhile. I’ll agree with the other reviewer who wishes that they had a high chair or two for such occasions. This is not a place you’d want to take a little one at night, imo. Too small and bound to be crowed and noisy. However for those 2pm lunches when you have the place to yourself, it’s fine. I can see this place becoming a regular stop for us. One advantage is that it’s in Florence, a quaint part of Omaha I love. It’s nice to see their strip flourishing. Now all they need is a bakery or some such to round things out. As it stands there’s always Zesto’s.

Enjoyable late lunch at Mouth of the South. Friendly and casual, blues in the background a plus. I had sweet tea, Trish regular iced tea. Jambalaya for me, nicely spiced, maybe just a tad on the dry side, but still yummy. Trish had a catfish po boy and fries. She liked it although half of it was saved for a snack later. We both thought the fries were excellent. When we arrived at 3 p.m. we were the only ones there, a good environment for the new addition. A table of five arrived shortly later. Couldn’t help but ogle some of their selections — an appetizer of onion rings piled high and a Cajun burger that looked delicious and way too big to finish in one setting. Bottom line, we will be back.

Really enjoyed Mouth of the South. Interior is tiny so be prepared to wait on a busy Friday or Saturday night. Drinks were great and reasonably priced. The Cajun Lemonade was only $ 6 and delicious. I love Pimms and this wasn’t a watered down lemonade. We tried the boudin balls because I LOVE boudin. Worth every penny, super hot and delicious. An authentic southern dish that I will probably order every visit. I also tried the poblano chicken melt. Also delicious although the menu said it was made with jalapeño cornbread, mine arrived just on plain(?) toast. I ordered the gumbo as my side. Nice spicy flavor and you could tell they took the time to make a roux. Will be back to Mouth of the South.

Excellent food with huge portions and good lunch prices. Found this place on Unilocal! And was near the Omaha airport and with that name I just had to stop. I was not let down and the food was excellent. Only change I would make for myself is next time is have them hold the powdered sugar on the sweet potato fries. I read that some people dig it but it wasn’t for me. No complaints just my preference. I will definitely stop back here for lunch next time I’m in Omaha.

I meant to write this review sooner. I had a great experience at Mouth of the South. I started with a Blood Orange Margarita, that was delicious. For appetizers my boyfriend and I had the Crab Cakes and the Crab Dip. Both were very tasty. For my entry I had the Kickn” Chicken Pasta. I really enjoyed all the food and the drink. I would definitely recommend try the Mouth of the South. Oh, I also stole an Onion Ring off my boyfriends plate. I was really good. You can tell they make them fresh.

We were in the mood for some Po’ boys and decided to try this place out — All of us really liked it. The boudin balls were a great appetizer as well… really tasty! Only downside to this place is its a little small. So there was a little pressure to get going when you’re done; to get all the folks waiting a chance to get their table.

I revisted MOTS and was so disappointed. I’d been dreaming of their Shrimp Po-Boy since my last visit and went with a replay of that plus the sweet potato fries. Well, the shrimp were smaller and there were exactly two on each side of the sandwich. That made for lots left on my plate: bread, tomatoes and sauce. The sweet potato fries were also different: instead of the lovely fries I got at my first visit, this time I was served short, stubby little fat ones. I mean, the entire plate, as served, looked foreign. Now the question is which was the«intended and usual menu item?» Did I get an over-zealous cook the first visit or did I get a poor cook the second? On my second visit I was NOT a member of the«clean plate club» and, in fact, the waitress noted that. I pointed out that there wasn’t much in the way of shrimp on my Shrimp PoBoy. She said she was sorry. Not inclined to visit a third time at this rate. But paint me disappointed and pretty darn sad. I was so WOWED the first visit that this was doubly disappointing.

This place totally blew us away. Obviously most of us don’t make it up to Florence very often. And to be quite honest, if you don’t live in the area, there isn’t much reason to. Sure, there’s a couple restaurants but not enough incentive to drive 80 blocks north of Dodge. Mouth of the South is your new incentive. This place is totally worth a 20+ minute drive. So when we first got here somebody tried parallel parking and hit our car. Oh well, stuff happens. Dinner made everything much better. I like the inside of this place, it’s small but feels right out of the south. They do have a full service bar in here which is nice. Our server recommended the wings for an appetizer. To be quite blunt, these are the greatest wings in the history of the universe. They are literally cooked perfect. The char buff is amazing, the sauce is amazing, and the meat is juicy and tender. A lot of places can get the char buff and good sauce, but fail to make the meat taste so delicious. I ordered the cajun burger for my dinner. Hands down one of the best burgers I’ve had, and I think it takes second place for Omaha. Though both of my favorite burgers are not at «burger places» so do not value my opinion of it highly. I really want to keep coming back here to try their whole menu, which really isn’t huge. But I’m sure everything they make is cooked to the same quality as what we this night. Well worth the drive.

Stacked po’ boys and stiff drinks. Mouth of the South is my kind of place. One I’d definitely recommend trying if you’re ever near Florence and looking for a bite. I was flying solo on my recent visit here. I grabbed a spot at the bar and ordered a Scarlet O’Hara, a signature cocktail made with SoCo, cranberry, fresh lime and garnished with herb grown in-house. It was really sweet and balanced and went down fast. But that was probably because I was thirsty due to running around Hummel Park prior to stopping in. For my meal, I started with a plate of gizzards followed up by a shrimp po’ boy with onion rings for my entrée. The gizzards — woah. They were surprisingly not chewy, considering being little chicken-rock-stomaches and all. Still, all the bonus points in the world for their sweet pepper-jelly glaze. They are worth trying, even if you’re one of those people who are scared of gizzards(if so, I’m sorry for you, because you’re missing out on something delicious). As for the po’ boy, it was stacked with little shrimp battered and fried with a little dressing and remoulade. It tasted good and fresh. I’m not sure I’d order it again, but only because there are many other burgers and entrees I’d like to try on future visits.
