As someone who has thrown many a show at The Northern, I’ve had good times and bad. I’m surprised that I haven’t seen any reviews from bands who’ve had to cancel a show as a result of the door not being unlocked. It’s ran by volunteers who run sound and supervise the venue. Sometimes I didn’t get a sound person or anyone to let me in at the time I and the person who books dates agreed on. The last show I threw was in June, I was let into the venue two hours late and I had to set up the sound system myself. That resulted in my final decision to never book there. Well I heard about a show tonight that was cancelled as a result of no one coming to unlock the door and that really should deter others from trusting anyone who runs it. I’d rather see bands getting to play the times they were scheduled to play.

I bought tickets online for a show there, then received an email later in the week letting me know that the tickets listed were not the correct price, and that I would have to pay the difference at the door the date of the event. Really disappointing. Not a great way to do business.

Great Project, Great Price, Great Age Range, Great Art, Great Shows… generally you’re standing or sitting on the floor though, if you’re disabled make sure to ask for a chair :)

i love the northern. i love the art(especially the current show, it’s my favorite so far), i love that sometimes there is a stage and sometimes there isn’t, i love the mysterious little stairs up to the(not very) secret room, i love the green room couch and art, i love the sign letting you know that the alarm is an alarm FORSERIOUS, i love the way that it’s close to everything, i love love love that it’s all-ages… i love the northern.

I have mixed feelings about this place. I am always pro-all ages venues, so that is a plus, and it’s nice for bands who are playing there to widen their fan base. However, they don’t have any refreshments whatsoever, which is kind of a bummer. The space is pretty awkward for concerts. It’s a medium-sized white room, that sometimes has some cool art on the walls. If there aren’t many people there, it feels awkward. I think they could easily improve this place, and I hope that they do sometime soon. I wouldn’t dissuade people from playing or performing here, this is just my opinion.

The Northern is an up and coming all-ages volunteer run music/arts space located in the heart of downtown. full of fresh blood and showcasing some real diy art. this place is kinda modernizing the alternative arts scene and providing a great community space for all kinds of events, including dope bands. they seem to be keeping the scene alive hope they dont sell out
