«It was a dark and stormy night, the rain fell in torrents»… Ok, it wasn’t really raining and miserable out, but I was feeling dark and stormy. For it was another late Friday night in Olympia and I was requiring some sort of nourishment beyond a hotdog slung at me from a window. While I heard rumors of a new food cart located outside the Old School Pizzeria I doubted any validity to the claims, for people are people and tend to talk, more so with a drink in their hands. But as I wondered towards the pizzeria I could hear the truth upon the wind. «KAAAAABOBS! GETYOURKABOBSHERE!» a guy was shouting Suddenly the clouds cleared and I was ready for the skinny, here it is. You got three guys cooking lamb and beef kabobs over two charcoal grills. Unlike some of the wimpy gyros carts in town that give you a skimpy amount of meat, Lumpy’s does it right and dishes up a brat size kabob. They then wrap it in a warm pita, pile on the veggies, tzatziki, and chili sauce that provides just the right amount of kick without overpowering the other flavors. All this for only five smack-a-roonies, cash only please. The fellas’ in charge are extremely friendly and posses the right amount pizzazz to be entertaining street venders, which is to say they are easy to talk with while your meat is in the making. I am not certain of their hours but you can usually find them there Friday and Saturday nights after 10. Other nights of the week you better pack an umbrella because it’s probably dark and stormy, but if it’s the weekend, do yourself a favor and swing by Lumpy’s on your way home. It’ll hit the spot!
