I don’t have any books to exchange, but I still like Lassley’s. The store has a discount cart and I can always find neat books there for under a dollar. The staff has always been helpful. They always point me in the right direction when I’m unsure where to find a specific book. The store works with exchanges. Selection can be hit or miss. It’s still fun to look.

I don’t frequent the paperback exchange very often because I’ve been trying to cut back on my book spending– I don’t have enough shelves anymore! When I do go, I am always impressed by how helpful the staff are. Another reviewer posted a negative rating about the buyback system, and that sounds to me like they just didn’t understand what they were agreeing to. The policy is sort of confusing at first, but it is clearly laid out all over the store and the staff will go over it with you(and do every time you sell books to them). They have a great selection and you can usually find some great books for a cheap price. I got a damaged(torn cover) copy of Redwall by Brian Jacques today for 50 cents! I can easily re-cover that book myself, so it’s an awesome bargain.

SELLERBEWARE! Deceptive and predatory policies, neglectful management, and HORRIBLE customer service!!! I recently brought in a huge portion of my book collection to get store credit I could give as Christmas gifts this very lean year. The employe told me they only gave store credit, I said that was fine as I was just looking to get gift cards, and she proceeded to process my books and told me to come back the next day to pick up my credit. What she did NOT do is mention the establishments odd definition of store credit, namely a 66% off coupon. While this may work great for many people, it is not what I very reasonably wanted or expected in exchange for my cherished property. Not only that, when I returned to pick up my credit, it was gone. After a while, they were able to re-issue it, and I did not learn of their deceptive definition until trying to purchase a book with my credit. I came back to speak with the owner, and she took my phone number and told me she would talk to her partner and get right back to me. Fast forward a week and I hadn’t heard a peep. Apparently they just hoped I would go away. I went in to find they were on vacation. There we go, no presents for family or friends for Christmas. I expressed my displeasure and asked the employee to let the owners know I expected a call from them when they returned. Fast forward another week without a peep. I returned and politely asked the employee to attempt to get one of the owners on the phone. After a few calls I was informed that they would do nothing to make the situation right. They would not return my property, or offer me even a portion of my «credit» in actual gift certificates. Not only were they deceptive, but rude and dismissive as well. I honestly feel like a victim of theft, and will never give them another dime of my money or page of my books. If you’re fine with getting a coupon in exchange for your property, fine. But if you expect actual compensation, STEERCLEAR! And hope you never have to bring any sort of grievance to rude an unhelpful management.

OK, so how many paper backs do you have laying around the house? Why not sell them so you can get books you haven’t read? The Paperback exchange is just the place to do that. Bring your books in, get credits and walk out with new ones using the credits plus a little cash. While they do not accept hardback books, they have darn near every popular mass market author in their store in paper back. If you spend a lot of time reading, or have a favorite author(like one of my favorites, Martin Cruz Smith), you can go though a whole series of books on the cheap. Many of the titles are fairly current. If you are a big reader of romance or modern mystery books and have kids, the Paperback exchange has books for all ages. The common sense ability to declutter the house of read paper backs and«re-clutter» with ones you are actually going to read just seems so practical.
