I’ve eaten many breakfasts and many different breakfast establishments and Bonnie Lu’s does one of the best egg breakfasts I’ve ever experienced. The place is adorable! The food is perfect! And the staff are the best!

Best breakfast place ever. Even though we had simple breakfast plates, it was so perfectly done! The bacon was the best Ive ever had. Its a perfectly thick cut bacon, and the eggs were done a perfevtly sunny side up. The place is really cute with cute pink décor. Its very unique, staff was super sweet and fun. cant wait to come here again!

Great food and service! Amazing biscuits and sausage gravy. A serious fan of both and theirs is thick and full of ground sausage. Perfect amount of spice. Had a great breakfast that was half an order of biscuits & gravy, one egg and home fries. The home fries had some wonderful sautéed onion in it. Perfect amount of food for someone who can’t eat the full breakfast of biscuits and gravy. The reason I gave it four stars is that we didn’t mind waiting for a table but the wait for the food at the table was a bit long. All the servers were wonderful & kept our drinks full while we waited though. Definitely would recommend. We came from our campground at Lake Casitas and it was very nice to get away from the camp food for a minute.

My mom just moved to Ojai and she insisted we go to Bonnie Lu’s for breakfast. I’m so glad she did because it was not only delicious, but we experienced some of the best, most genuinely sweet service. They’re extremely family friendly– they had a bin of toys that kept our young boys busy, and the server was wonderful with them too. We’ll be back!

Everything’s excellent i.e. All day breakfast! Coffee is bit expensive.$ 2.50. Egg Benedict was ok, good homemade salsa. Oh. And very good hash browns!

Cool country-retro diner atmosphere. Best breakfast in Ojai. Best service statewide. Seriously I heart this staff with all of my love. Try the corned beef hash and eggs. It isn’t on the menu but they’ll make it for you if you ask. Yum. Lori’s with the chop. Excellent. The Green Moment salad is a little bit of a misnomer because it’s mostly not made of green stuff but boy is it tasty. Though bleu cheese is usually my go-to, I get this one with ranch. Visiting Bonnie Lu’s is one of those things you have to do in Ojai, like going for a pretty hike or looking at some colorful art. Otherwise why did you come here?

Great diner feel. Yummy food, fresh unlike traditional diner food, also locally sourced. Great service!

Service kinda sucks, we got seated right away there’s no wait but we sat and sat until one of the four servers gave us menus. We then sat and sat ready to order while the four servers didn’t look overwhelmed to take our order, then out of no-where came a server I hadn’t seen in the 15 minutes being here. We ordered thin pancakes with blueberries and Bubba’s Benedict of biscuits sausage poached eggs with sausage gravy. Bubba’s Benedict is the bomb, very tasty turkey sausage patty with wonderful sausage gravy, the country potatoes are just that country potatoes that were lacking perhaps some flavor, I would add more onion and seasoning. The thin pancakes are good with plenty of blueberries, these are not crepes but are crêpe like pancakes made with pancake batter, I think the batter could use a bit of vanilla. Overall, this was an enjoyable breakfast in beautiful downtown quant Ojai.

Saturday brunch was busy here. Wait time was 35 minutes. But when we finally got seated, we had a good spot at the bar. The service, the ladies, the country diner atmosphere, the diners were the perfect scene. It is a retro 50’s place and I liked it a lot. BISCUITSWITHGRAVY was delicious. My choice of EGGWHITEOMELETTE was fantastic and CREPE-STYLEPANCAKE was something that I would eat, instead of the ordinary thick pancake. Free coffee while we wait. I loved the bathroom mirror, btw.

First time in ojai, first time at Bonnie lu’s. The food took a long time, but everyone was so nice, that it didn’t take away from the experience. I got the French toast with strawberries and whip cream– and it was absolutely delicious. Can’t get over how sweet everyone is here! Definitely will come back.

Good enough place to eat breakfast or brunch. SUPERBUSY on the weekends though, so that’s the main reason I never come here. I hate waiting outside(no room inside to wait) for a table. Staff is very friendly, menu is solid and food is generous and tasty. They have all your favorite breakfast items and good sandwiches as well. 4 of us came here for breakfast last weekend and the bill was about $ 50 before tip. Only reasons I don’t come more often are 1. I rarely eat breakfast out and 2. too hard to get a table on the weekends(only days I could eat out breakfast).

Just visited Bonnie Lu’s yesterday. Frankly, I’m surprised so many people gave it a 2 or 3 star rating. This place is everything you’d want in a cute breakfast/brunch/lunch restaurant. The décor is a charming 50s/60s theme, the wait staff are all kind and smiley, and the feel of the restaurant is just very home-y overall. I read that someone criticized the door opening inwards… really? Solid food, attentive service, easy parking in back, small so it doesn’t get too loud, and just a fun atmosphere overall. Just a single person bathroom for men and women each, so there is that. I tried Melissa’s French toast and some of my friend’s Monte Cristo, which was delish. Great place to bring your family, or for a late breakfast, brunch, or lunch. Oh…ANDTHEPRICES! Really good bang for your buck here. Very fair prices for what you get with your meal. Perhaps the best part, given that the rest of Ojai seems to love higher priced goods/services.

Bonnie Lu’s…not bad, not great. Let’s review the good, the bad and the ugly. THEGOOD Pico de gallo: nothing extraordinary but fresh, tasty and a nice addition. Service: all smiles, very friendly, and a team centered approach(we were helped by a variety of staff) Homemade salsa: again, not amazing but really good and obviously fresh. Interior: Very inviting with that Ojai-esque homely/comfortable feel Orange Juice: Fresh squeezed. This was definitely on the great side THEBAD Entrance to restaurant: The door opens inward and there’s not much waiting space inside… so basically someone’s getting hit or moved every time someone walks in. Chicken Fried Steak: Really not too bad but a little too chewy and miles from the best CFS I’ve had THEUGLY I’m hoping this was really just a rare mess up but my wife’s poached eggs were literally hard boiled. I mean there wasn’t a drop of runny yolk. Try it or Diet Final Word Try it, with modest expectations.

What a great little café, with friendly professional service, good food and the best fresh pico de gallo around. My quesadilla was perfectly grilled, as were the hash browns. Also, I loved the cheery interior which matched the friendly service.

Loved breakfast at Bonnie Lu’s. We were in Ojai for short pre-new year. Our first morning we made a beeline to Bonnie Lu’s for breakfast. No waiting(get there before 9am. HINT: this is true for most breakfast places!!) We had our choices of tables or counter services. We selected a table and were promptly greeted by a friendly waitress who took our beverage orders and gave us a few minutes check out the menu. Bonnie Lu’s is adorable in the way that you wish this establishment existed near your house. You’d be a regular. There were smiles and hello’s all around. I’m guessing there was a mix of locals, visitors and repeat customers. One party entered to the greeting, ‘glad you back. how was your trip.’ now that’s friendly. Our waitress said she was best friends with the owner’s daughter. As others have noted, the staff works as a team — your water, coffee and table is always taken care of. I had the Titus Scramble — 3 egg whites scrambled with chicken breast chunks, spinach, mushrooms and ortega chilies. Served with fresh fruit and choice of toast and their divine home made salsa. Perfect to start the day. Hubby created his own omelette with beautifully grilled onions. This is the place for breakfast in Ojai.

A lot of menu items are named after people whether it’s JOHN’S PRIME6OZ. STEAK or LORI’S CHICKENFRIEDSTEAK or BUBBA’S COUNTRYBENEDICT. We got all of these by the way. These plates come with eggs, a choice of country potatoes, hash browns or fruit, and toast(the benedict comes on a biscuit). It’s heavy food, but not too greasy. I liked the sausage gravy, eggs and hash browns the most. The steak was too overdone. Our table also split an order of GUY’S THINPANCAKES and these crêpe-style pancakes turned out to be my favorite.
