Unique Styling Barber Shop

*(disclaimer, I am just getting the hang of Unilocal,so this review is from my experience in January. I wanted to share my photo, so why not write a review as well? haha)*
I had my side shaved since Sept, but my boyfriend usually just cuts it for me: plain shave, no design. Being a few days before my birthday (Jan 15^th), I was searching on Unilocal for barber shops that are able to do designs and I stumbled upon this shop based on their photos and reviews. The following day, I randomly went into the barber shop and Griffin greeted me immediately; I didn’t make an appointment and was quite surprised that he was able to seat me right away, I guess I went in at a perfect time. I already had a photo of what I wanted and he said he can do it. I showed him the photo, he looked at it for no more than a minute, then proceeded to do cut my hair. He matched the photo exactly and I was more than excited! I had an appointment with my normal hair beautician that evening to get my hair washed and flat ironed and she was amazed at how nice and neatly Griffin had cut my hair. I’ve gotten so many compliments on my design! Will definitely be returning, but this time with an appointment, just to play it safe :-)

Back again… Tried others but came back with a vengeance. Good look Griff… You always come through…

I came to this shop after a not so good haircut from another barbershop on MacArthur. All I can say is thank your Mr. Griffin! You brought my hair cut from ‘WTF is that WHACK to ALLLLLLL THAT” Thank You So Much!!!

Went a month and a half without a cut. Nervous from these west coast barber experiences. I was ready to fly back to Cleveland for a cut but I found this spot and I’m not going anywhere.

l guess this review worked because young Mr. Griff is now getting a lot of young ladies of various ethnicities patronizing the shop. l am glad that business is good, but it doesn’t mean one can take such results for granted or become complacent. l had a very disappointing experience today at the shop.
l texted ahead to make an appointment as usual, asking if there are open spots for the rest of the week (on Tuesday.) Mr. Griff told me to come in the next day (today) at a specified time. l did run late by 30 mins because of public transportation issues from SF; l gave him a heads up & apologized. When l got there, Mr. G had a surprised look on his face and asked if l was trying to get in. l said yes and sat down. 3 hours later l was still waiting. if it wasn’t for my positive experience in the past l would not have put up with such disrespect for my time. this is not the first time l had to wait a long time having made an appointment either. seeing it was getting late and the 73^rd straight (then probable, now factual) win for the Warriors was in a matter of about an hour, both of us would have been busy, so l left.
not a word was exchanged between us since l stepped in. l don’t need a conversation, just an acknowledgement. the lack thereof *definitively* told me he wanted me to go. l took a jetlag nap at the shop because l was hyped on getting a cut fresh off the plane. l guess there is too much business and Mr. Griff doesn’t want mine anymore. why tell me to come in then? l didn’t even have a Unilocal account before this, tell me to delete this review cuz it’s more trouble than it’s worth and l would have. l know grandpa wouldn’t stand for this.
it’s all vanity and maintenance anyway, and l still get paid to have my hair cut — l don’t really care how — l just respect people’s skills. about an hour into the wait, l woke up from my nap to witness a white girl –who said to Griff she came in from SF– walking out really appreciative & happy with a really simple shave that any Latina beautician lady in the Mission could have done without the travel and trouble. l was already pissed at the half-​assedness before the ensuing 2 hours. l value talent, but above all, l respect myself.

In all the years l’ve use Unilocal,l’ve never felt compelled to sign up for reviews, but l did just to praise the mad skills of Mr. Griff.
l am very picky about my hair; as a result, l have not allowed anyone to cut my hair, (except for paid hair modeling,) for many years. However, l recently got an undercut and l can’t shave a design on myself, so l had been searching for someone who can shave a design on my sides.
After hours of searching on the internet, l was impressed by the photos of Mr. Griff’s work. What’s more, since l am in Berkeley often, the shop being conveniently located on San Pablo right near Powell Street was ideal. l made an appointment by phone and came in the same day.
This is a real barber shop that offers friendly neighbourhood service. You can see from the photos, posters and news clipping on the walls that this is an established business. Mr. Griff’s grandfather has been doing this for 50 years.
l can’t be happier with the haircut. l came in with my own design for one side and asked Mr. Griff to free style on the other side. It is truly beautiful.

My husband has been going to Griff since he was at the Barber college. He now cuts my husband and my son and has always done a great job. He is super patient with my baby boy which is always nice because he is truly a hand full. If you are looking for a bomb Barber he is your man for sure. Great conversation, great cut, and most importantly, outstanding customer service!

I had just moved to the area and need a haircut. I came across barber Griffin at his grand dad’s shop that had been there for at least 50 years. I am a white guy with thin, white guy hair and his burr cut was the best I had EVER had. Very friendly and detailed oriented. Kinda reminds me of Barbershop without the drama. Highly recommend.

Interesting place as far as decorating… My friend loves his hair cut and MR. Griffin is AMAZING!!!
