I just had a California Burger from this place and it was very good and tasty. The patty was char grilled, thick and perfectly seasoned. It had red onion, pickles, mayo, thin slice of jack cheese and a good amount of avocado mush. The bun was nice & warm too. I did have a bit of a wait but they say good things are worth waiting for. I work in the vicinity and pass by here daily so this is my first visit. After reading the reviews, I’ll go back to try the vegan combo & hummus. The prices seem pretty reasonable. My decent size burger was $ 6.09 which in included tax. I’ll definitely be ordering another burger next time I’m in the mood for one.

Service needs improvement and did not acknowledge their mistake. Food is nothing extraordinary and not worth the price. Not express at all. Didn’t order the buffett… not all you can eat either.hmm.false advertisement?

First time. Passed by it so many times during my lunch break. Decided to try it out. Had pastrami sandwich($ 5.49) and hot fried chicken sandwich($ 6.49). The pastrami sandwich was pretty good and tasty. I did not like the fried chicken sandwich. Do not get it. Both are small portions. $ 13+ for both sandwiches is not worth it. I would come back again for the pastrami.

Service is incredibly slow(waited 20 minutes, which is nearly half of my lunch break). Ordered a deluxe falafel wrap, no tomato. Watched an employee make my wrap, WITH tomato, WITHOUT the potatoes. When the owner handed it to me, I told her that I had requested no tomato(which it said on the receipt), and saw that it had been made with tomato and no potatoes. Owner rolled her eyes at me and said I could try it, and if it was wrong they’d make another one. Girl, I just told you that I saw it was made with tomato and without potatoes. Ain’t nobody got time for that. Got back to my office, sure enough, no potatoes, plenty of tomato. Also, it was cold and pretty bland. The lack of good lunch options in downtown Oakland is so depressing.

I am from the middle east and this place is authentic and wonderful. A very nice and caring staff with an equally caring involved owner. They make there dolma from scratch which is rare and the food is awesome at a very reasonable price.

I was not impressed with my meal from here. I couldn’t even eat it. I ordered the combination chicken and lamb shawarma wrap($ 8.77). The wrap as a whole was very bland and just not good. It consisted of meat, green bell pepper and onion. I’m used to pickled veggies and some kind of sauce and good meat in my shawarmas. I gave half my wrap to my friend that eats everything because it was huge and took the other half back to work with me. Two bites was all I wanted to eat of this wrap. I took it next door and fed it to my favorite totally food-motivated dog, Bigfoot. He totally loved it and I think I remain his favorite passer-by-er on his block. They have a pretty big salad bar that looked packed with yummy salad toppings, including hummus, dolma and falafel, but also all the standard salad bar fixin’s. I noticed burgers and sandwiches on the menu, too. Maybe this place is better for a burger or a salad? I have the feeling that service can be slow here. Although my order came out quickly, I noticed that I received my food before someone that had ordered before I even walked in. I also heard a guy mumble something that I won’t repeat here as he left. It was obvious it took forever for him to get his sandwich.

Food: I had the Combo Platter and thought it was a filling meal. Price: Although it could be cheaper for a small Med food place, the price is okay for what you get. From what my coworkers tell me, the prices have gone up over the years. It’s a little inconsistent I would say though — my friends and I all got combo plates but our side sauces were different went served. A little strange and I only call attention to this because I wanted the green sauce they served my friends but instead got a spicey side sauce that I didn’t really like. Small nuisance to report.

I’ve eaten at many Mediterranean restaurants before, and although this place isn’t the best, it’s certainly a great place for lunch. I grabbed the vegetarian combo. Unlike other similar restaurants, they don’t fill you with pita. You get a good portion of everything you’d want in a veggie combo plus dolma. The hummus tasted freshly prepared. The cucumber salad was crisp and tangy to my liking. The falafels were just okay. They weren’t as crispy as I would expect but at least I didn’t feel like I was drinking oil with every bite. You can’t go wrong with Mediterranean Express and if you’re a meat eater, they’ve got plenty of options from sandwiches to the buffet.

Menu is simple; salad bar is one time run only, but good pickin’s. I didn’t have great service– they were kind of reluctant to answer my questions and maybe it is trivial– but I asked for a cold tuna sandwich(she clarified twice) and it still can out hot :(Maybe if your a regular they pay better attention to you. There food is good, but not my spot.
