I speak from the point of view of a mere beginner, having but 2 years of experience or thereabouts, but i believe i speak for many and the much more experienced in the LeBlanc Wing Chun school in saying that Sifu LeBlanc is a teacher who you will not only learn a martial art from, but also the respect, ethical conduct and sensitivity to others which, as i understand it, is intrinsically at the heart of the great skill and subtlety which wing chun as a system seeks to develop in you. Besides being one of the most lethally powerful person i have ever met and experienced, Sifu LeBlanc is disarmingly kind, open, and modest, and is truly dedicated to help you grow and cultivate yourself as a fighter as well as a human being. Sifu LeBlanc not only possesses great knowledge of the wing chun system (along with many other forms of fighting systems), but also very articulately and effectively conveys its concepts and applications in a way which is simple to understand and even philosophically profound. As an aspiring university teacher myself, I am keenly appreciative of his thoughtful synthetic approach to knowing, learning and practicing, itself evidence of great skill and mind which he impressively evidences in his being, both in his sheer power he generates and in his care for his students. With Sifu LeBlanc, you will learn and experience wing chun not as a mere external set of techniques, but a form of life and mind, that is to say, a true art of fighting.

LeBlanc Wing Chun is an excellent school. Greg LeBlanc maintains an atmosphere that teaches a fierce fighting style, but, at the same time, students feel safe and are encouraged to learn and grow. As other students have commented, Sifu LeBlanc is very generous in sharing what he knows. To watch him demonstrate, which he does throughout each class, is an experience that should not be missed — he is truly inspiring. I’ve been in search of a good Wing Chun school in the Bay Area, and found Sifu Greg Leblanc Wing Chun in Oakland. Their training lineage is from Ip Man, Wong Shun Leung, and Gary Lam. They are teaching traditional Wing Chun, and it is simple, direct, and efficient. Head coach Sifu Greg Leblanc is very friendly, patient, and open-​minded, but don’t let his friendly face fool you! His lightning speed, power, and knowledge is phenomenal. No matter what level you are at in your training, he can guide you to your fullest potential. It is also a very friendly environment and everyone helps each other out. I’m fortunate to be taught by a top Wing Chun master.

I have been training under Sifu Greg LeBlanc now for two years. I have not only been looking to learn Wing Chun, but I wanted a real teacher. I have been involved in many different martial arts and wrestling classes. It is one thing to be a very good athlete and fighter and another to also be able to teach. Sifu Greg is that practitioner that can teach. He is very open with philosophy, concepts, and principles. He not only gives you information but also lets you evolve, and grow for yourself. I studied Wing Chun kung fu back in the 90’s. After a few years my instructor moved to Minnesota. I sought out a couple other instructors who just didn’t measure up to my previous training so I just kinda gave up on it. One day browsing YouTube, I watched a video of Gary Lam demonstrating his Wing Chun. I was so impressed that I immediately looked into where his school was located. I was a bit disappointed that the school was just too far away. So I looked to see if he had any students under him that were closer by. That’s when I discovered Sifu LeBlanc. His school is still a good hour away so I decided to give it a shot. So I showed up to check out the school. I have enough experience to know good Wing Chun kung fu. It only took me 15 min in his class to know I have finally found what I was looking for. If you are interested in learning authentic Wing Chun kung fu, you have come to the right place.

Martial arts are either an art or a skill and sometimes both, but I like to think that my studies are preparing me for an actual fight in the real world.
But how can you tell if what you are being taught will really work in a fight? I have to go with two factors. What is the reputation of the style and the lineage and can the teacher who has inherited the reputation of the lineage demonstrate his skill?
Wing Chun has a formidable reputation as a martial art that works on the street. Yip Man is the sun source of 99% of the Wing Chun available in the West. Wong Shun Leung is widely acknowledged as one of if not the best fighter to be trained by Yip Man. He tested his Wing Chun in many fights. He was Yip Man’s Head Coach for many years.
Gary Lam is widely acknowledged to be one of the best fighters trained by Wong Shun Leung. He trained with Wong Shun Leung for over 15 years and was his head coach for 6 years. He had a reputation for not holding any information back.
Greg LeBlanc was the first person Gary Lam ever rated as a Coach and served as a Coach for Gary Lam for many years. He has a reputation for teaching in a clear and organized manner and not holding anything back.
In my experience, Greg is easy going and articulate and can demonstrate the power and speed and control you would hope to find in a high level practitioner.

Mr. Leblanc is a great teacher, one who has absolute top notch technical skill in wing chun along with the ability to explain the subtle theories and principles of Wing Chun. I can’t speak highly enough about him as a teacher. Sifu LeBlanc is a true martial artist embodying the spiritual aspects of the art as well as the practical. What I have observed, during my time with Sifu, is a teacher who holds nothing back, who wants to preserve and pass along the art. Sifu has a rare talent in engaging students at different levels, explaining, breaking things down so the student can understand. It’s one thing to have mastered the art, it’s another to be able to take that knowledge and be able to present it to any student on their level so they can really absorb it.

When he discusses the philosophy and concepts of Wing Chun, it’s like you’re hearing a lecture from an Ivy League professor. When he demonstrates his technique, the room goes silent and jaws hit the floor.
If you’re curious to know what it’s like to chi sao with Sifu LeBlanc, it’s a little like getting caught in a wood chipper. First, one of your hands disappears. Then in an attempt to rescue it with your free hand, you find your whole body getting sucked into the machinery. A humbling experience indeed.
He is an open book to all of his students and holds nothing back. His goal is to teach the concepts of Wing Chun and their application to real-​world fighting. That’s right, Wing Chun is an attacking style, not self-​defense.

ok… it’s hard to sum up how great I think Sifu Leblanc is as a Wing Chun teacher. He is Gary Lam’s first certified coach and unlike many others in the kung fu community he really knows how to teach. It’s one thing to only be a great fighter, but Greg also is an incredible teacher. I’ve only encountered one other teacher in 20 years with this gift. Just today sifu Leblanc said to me «It’s my responsibility as a teacher to find out the best way to convey these skills to my students.» You will never find a better teacher and gentle, but deadly, soul. I’ve been studying with sifu Leblanc every week for a year and I look forward to every lesson.
