Just had this pizza for the first time and it’s hand-down in the top three I’ve ever had in Oakland. The dough is light and crispy and chewy and delicious, the ingredients are super fresh and mindfully arranged throughout(thank you!), they put raw arugula and/or basil on top of the pie at the end(lovely detail!), and they have a list out of the sources of their produce and meats. Awesome place.

Not for me. Very thin and minimal toppings. Very salty too with overly cooked crust. Tasted like a salty bread stick. To top it off, quite pricey. 214″ inch pizzas– a little over 40 bucks. Better, pizza out there for less.

No thank you. I will not ever order from this place again. Got the Pretesto. Sun-dried tomatoes were EXTRA chewy, so chewy, it was inedible. I had to pick them all off. Crust was also thin and burnt… I love eating pizza — crust and all, and I could not even eat the crust! It was so hard and disgusting. The description on the menu sounds so much tastier than it actually tastes. Also paid about $ 20 each for a small?! Cripes, even the best pizza I’ve had cost less than that for a small pizza. Save your money and go elsewhere.

Was really happy to find a local pizza place(that delivers) so quickly after moving to the area! We’ve moved a lot around the U.S. in the past 15 years and always seek out good pizza. We even had a home-made, Pompeii-style pizza oven for a couple years, which keeps our tastes searching for the good stuff! FOF really has the crust down-perfect! I think they’re sauce is good, but my husband, who’s pickier than I thinks it is a bit on the sweet side(red sauce). I’m wanting to try more of their custom pizza offerings. Service is always friendly. If you see their truck/stand at a local event while out ‘n about, I highly recommend you grab a slice!

5 stars based on stellar customer service. I had pizza delivered several months ago when my wife was out of town. Wish I could say I had a fun poker party but I was home with the dog and loved the idea of being able to get non-chain pizza delivered in my neighborhood. I got the spinach mushroom pizza and a very good Caesar. I enjoyed the meal but with delivery charge and tip it was a bit spendy. Fast forward to New Year’s Eve. We said we’d bring pizza to the small party we were invited to. The hosts wanted a sausage combo pizza without cheese and a got a vegetarian pizza too — both large. I placed the order shortly after they opened at noon for pick up around 7 pm. $ 58 bucks plus a $ 7 tip. My wife kindly went in and got it. When we got to the party I realized the meat pizza was covered with cheese. I called them and a guy looked up the order, apologized and offered to have a new one delivered in 20 minutes or so. Wow. I was expecting to have to struggle to get a replacement that I’d have to go back out and pick up. He offered me my 100% of what I would have wanted without having to ask. Not that’s what I call great customer service. I’d give the actual pizza a 4. The flavor could have been better — and I’m talking about the one with cheese. Would like to go by for lunch sometime and try the slices. Very happy to have decent pizza close by.

So… I’ve been to this location about 5 times so far, but the last time I went last week… not so good. The pizza slice was big as usual, but there must have been a different cook because this pizza was a little less than mediocre. It seemed as though there was only crust(thin as a piece of paper) with a bunch of cheese and pepperoni thrown on top, with a severe absence of any sauce whatsoever. I don’t think I’ll be going back after this experience.

I keep forgetting to write a review for this place. I love it, I’ve come a few times for the lunch special, 2 slices and a Sanpellegrino soda for $ 7. This place has great thin crust pizza with a rotating menu. Every time I come in there’s a new veggie and a new meat combination to try. The staff is always friendly and the pizza is always good. I just wish they had dessert and more seating so I could come with a larger group. In addition to the slices, they also have some great pizzas on the menu, I haven’t tried any YET, BUT I will

The staff attitude is horrendous!!! I mean really bad. On top of that I asked for crispy crust because the last time it was really soggy. I got a crust that was burnt to a crisp. It is also crazy expensive

Pizza close to home that’s good. Pizza prices are kinda nuts everywhere, and this place is no exception. The thin crust is super thin, and the center of the pizza gets soppy, so you kinda have to flip it in half width-wise. The clasico is just about everything I like on a pizza, fresh basil optional. The garlic was a little overpowering, but I was in the mood for pizza, and pizza is what I got, so I’m not complaining. It’s close. It’s fresh. It’s pretty ok. . (In the evening, the pies by the slice looked a little sad.)

I really wanted to like this place more, since we live in the neighborhood. They make an OK pizza. The crust is excellent, but everything else lacked flavor and interest. For the price I was hoping for something that rivaled Cheese Board, Gioia Pizzeria, or Zachary’s, but instead I’m pretty sure Redboy has Fist of Flour beat on flavor(and certainly on price). In another part of the country, this might be the best pizza for miles, but the competition is fierce in the East Bay.

I had decent experiences before tonight but their staff are not on point tonight. My pizza came missing most of the toppings they charged me for. They got the sizes wrong on my pizzas and the girl on the phone wasn’t professional at all, I kept getting hung up on(I guess they are having phone issues). For a $ 30 pizza they should be checking the orders and if the mess up they should have plan besides«uh uh, I don’t know what you want me to do. You wanna come back & get the right one? Or I don’t know. Ummm» So I asked to speak to a manager and I was hung up on again. The pizzas aren’t nearly as fresh as usual either. Ugh. I liked this place.

Stay far, far away from Fist of Flour! I have only had their pizza twice but both times it sucked! When they first opened in the neighborhood we were very excited to have a local pizza place and many of our neighbors said that the pizza was good. First time we tried it my husband went in and got the two slice special. It’s burned on the bottom and black on the edges and the cheese in brown and dry, not the way I like my pizza. My husband doesn’t mind it over cooked so he ate both pieces. We assumed because they reheated the pizza to warm it up that’s why it got burnt no big deal we’ll try again. Well last night my husband went and ordered a whole pie; pepperoni on one side sausage on the other with fresh basil on top. Overcooked again! Brown dry cheese, black edges and black on the bottom, tasted like crap. I took one bite, my husband ate the rest of the pizza himself. I had to find something else for dinner last night. I’m never going to eat their pizza again. And of course I’m using the word«eat» sarcastically because I actually only took one bite. My husband probably will go again because he thinks burnt pizza is tolerable and I don’t. It’s expensive; if I pay a lot for pizza I want to be able to enjoy it. I asked him if it was busy in there when he went to pick it up thinking they just got distracted and left it in the oven for two long because the place was swamped but he said no there was nobody else in there. I rest my case.

So, I’ve gone twice because they have great pizza. Really really yummy with great topping choices. However, they are hella over priced. Like… Hella! Worst part: both times the service SUCKED! These folks were so unbothered. No «hello» no smile, nada. I felt like I was bothering them. Nope. Not going back. Stank hipster attitudes ain’t for me. I’ll spend my money else where.

A disappointing experience to say the least. This place was on my bookmarks for a bit — the name was quite catchy and they had some decent reviews. When I showed up past noon I was coldly greeted — if you can call it that — by the counter girl(the one with the fake blond hair and tat behind her ear). When I noticed the pizzas by the slice were in the counter I asked her what kind each on was. She looked at me like — duh, don’t you know?! — and then said, «I don’t know — this one looks like it has such and such…» Yeah, I can see that too but you really don’t know what ingredients are on YOUROWN pizzas and you have to look?! WTF? I then told her that I just wanted one slice of the veggie. She again gave me that same stupid look and said, «Why don’t you just get the special and you’ll get two slices?!» Uh, maybe because I’m not that hungry and I’m getting pissed that you’re treating me like shit so I don’t want to stay longer than I have to. They only have a small/limited counter space(no tables) so it also didn’t help that they had a large flour mixer in the corner taking up space too. Was that suppose to be décor? The only plus was that the pizza crust was pretty tasty and the fresh basil was a nice touch hence the two stars. But the sauce and ingredients were just there. Definitely not coming back.

Awesome Pizza. Got my nails done next store then went into this place thinking that they couldn’t really have slices ready for purchase. But they actually had four pizzas to chose from and the slices were huge and only $ 3.50!!! Very good pizza and I love the fact that they put fresh basil on it. Highly recommended!

I’ve been going here since they’ve opened and I love their pizza. What makes their pizza really is the thin crispy crust. They are also one of the few places that know you can’t go too heavy on the toppings otherwise you end up with a soggy middle. This is the place to go if you want a crispy tasty crust above all else. The ingredients are top notch. What prompted me to write this review is their service though. While they might not be the smiliest group, they treated me right. I ordered the last pizza they had for the evening and they accidentally put on the wrong sauce. They called me up, said they could make me anything with red sauce and didn’t charge me for the pizza. They even refused payment for the soda I wanted. The only recourse I have left is to write a review.

Such tasty crust! Fresh ingredients… Sit back and watch it made in the authentic wood fire pizza oven. This is my spot.

Their«Blue Hill» pizza was fantastic, however the Blue Haired Girl at the front left a bad taste our my mouths. We are very happy to have a pizza place of this caliber in our neighborhood but, it’s unfortunate that when you place your order your confronted with an unfriendly dismissive attitude. I overheard her on the phone with another customer when we were leaving, same attitude. Maybe she was just having a bad day, I don’t think I want to continue to deal with that. I mean I’m the customer and I’m a very friendly person … and I’m giving you money. I’m sorry I bothered you with my order? Hopefully their pizza will save them from going under, very pricey but, it was AMAZING! I would highly recommend, without the poor customer service I would have easily rated 5 stars FYI– Only good reviews remain on their website blog.

I just moved to the Laurel district. And Fist of flour is my friend neighborhood pizza joint. It’s pretty good, good crust the cheese tastes fresh. Over all pretty impressed. They carry my favorite Italian soda by San Pellegrino. It’s best for take out, there’s pretty much no dining area. No booze either. So Id much rather take it to go and have it with beer at home. Quick easy dinner for after work.

Have I mentioned that I am a pizza snob? No? Well, I am. I am sorry, but I grew up so close to the Italian border that I could smell the pizza Napoli from my porch. That said, this place has pretty damn good pizza! And it is down the street from where I live. What could be better? You might have had a slice from the Fist of Flour food truck around town when they park in front of bars in downtown late at night for example. Nothing better than a few beers and some heavenly pizza with fennel salami on the side walk :-) When I come here to their brick and mortar shop, the Doughjo, I usually go with the Tuesday special of two slices of whatever the chef is concocting that day — to go. Sometimes with a little fresh basil or arugula on top. That plus a drink is $ 7. Not bad at all! Go Laurel!
