I had been looking for a great hair salon and one that could tackle my mane of thick curly, mostly frizzy hair. Had not had my hair done let alone relaxed in years due to pregnancy/childbirth/too damn tired to do anything with three kids under 2/work. So years go by… Yep YEARS! My kids’ preschool teacher and friend Andrea, suggested her sister, Tameka at Escape Salon. I called and spoke to Tameka told her the sitch about my hair and my reticence in going to a new salon. She put my mind at ease and said come in and let me see what I’ll be working with and we will get your hair healthy. Healthy hair, first and foremost. Tameka managed to make my mane look like it did when I had no kids and plenty of spare time to pamper myself. Tameka can do some hair! Girl, I looked cute! And I looked like ME! She asked me what I wanted, what I was used to style wise, what I might want to try, etc. She asked me about my hair and didn’t assume and just start cutting. And even with getting a relaxer, my hair was beautiful and stayed that way. No breakage or dryness like my past experiences. It was a fabulous cut too… I am a curly girl but sometimes I want straight hair… did the straight hair thing for a while and then it lost its allure so I decided to wear it in its natural curly state again. The haircut looked so freakin’ cute curly too! The new location of the salon on 14th Street between Broadway and Franklin, is so nice. Lovely colors and wood, warm, inviting, clean, its fun to people watch through the windows if you can. This is a nice relaxing salon with a great stylist. I know I say it ALLTHETIME but this place is yet another reason to shop Oakland.
