Dr. Yu was a patient of Dr. Fong’s since she was a child. She was so impressed she took at part-​time job with Dr. Fong during high school. She grow to love dentistry. Eventually she went to school, UC Davis I think an eventually became a dentist in her own right. Dr. Yu works out of several offices on both sides of the bay bridge.
Dr. Yu is very kind and a wonderful dentist.

Dr Fong will always do whatever it takes even staying late in the hours just to get the job done right. So happy I chose him as my Dentist.

I’ve been looking for a good dentist for years! Tried a few in Alameda –they sucked! I found Dr. Fong on Unilocal!From the time I called in to make my 1^st appt. I have had nothing but EXCEPTiONAL service! Everyone from the Dr. Himself to the reception staff is genuinely friendly! My favorite is the detail hygienist Thuy! She’s like an old friend that I just met…:)

What a wonderful staff! They are not only professional but warm and very welcoming. Love that they text and email you reminders about your appointment. Dr. Fong is very knowledgable and his assistants clearly explain everything regarding your teeth and potential dental work. So glad I found this office on Unilocal

This review is long overdue.
I’ve been a patient of Dr. Fong’s for nearly 20 years now. He’s been treating my severe bruxism (and all of the sticky problems that come along with it) for many years and he and his team always go above and beyond their call of duty. They genuinely care about the well being of their patients and their work is always thorough. Dr. Fong has extensively monitored the condition of my teeth, my bite, and has worked hard on correcting it over the years, while still taking into serious account its impact on my everyday lifestyle. He puts great emphasis on effectiveness, practicality, and aesthetics. He will not sacrifice a medically sound decision for cosmetic gain but he certainly refuses to fall short on the latter, either. He extracted all four of my impacted wisdom teeth without having to put me to sleep and allowed me to bounce back with a pretty short recovery period. And the painstaking time and effort he and his team have put into my nightguards and restorations are the only reason I still have teeth!
My plan was to do the majority of restorative work on my teeth before my wedding and I feel like Dr. Fong has also made it his personal mission to succeed in doing it!
Several years ago, I made the mistake of trying another dentist when I moved out of the area and that was the only time I understood the inherent fear and anxiety that people have of going to the dentist. That was the one and only time I lapse in judgment; I quickly went back to Dr. Fong and have been going to him ever since – even though I now live over an hour’s drive away from his office. It’s worth braving the ugly Bay Area traffic.
The hygienists in his office that have worked on me (Thu and Pat) are both very competent, gentle, and yet extremely thorough. They take the time to gently instill the fear of God in you when it comes to good hygiene and flossing without nagging. The assistants: Katie, Jamie, and other past assistants are always on point and make me feel at ease. And Jackie and Pandora, at the front desk, all feel like family.
My plan is to brave through the nasty 880 traffic from the South Bay, when I have kids, because they will be going to see Dr. Fong.
A good, skilled, caring dentist who has the sensibility to appreciate comic books, nerd culture, and basketball is hard to come by.

I moved to Oakland in August of 2012 and had 4 wisdom teeth that desperately needed to come out. After looking on Unilocal for a dentist close to my apartment, I came across Dr. Fong. It was a great decision. I had 4 teeth removed in 2 visits. I was extremely nervous after a few bad dental experiences back east. Dr. Fong and his staff put me at ease. I was in and out in less than an hour. The next day I was in NO pain. I have been going back ever since. He is very friendly, thorough and an all-​around nice hard working dentist. He is from Oakland and lives in Alameda which might not matter to most people, but I am a firm believer in keeping your money local and supporting people who support your community. If you go to him as a result of this review tell him you were referred by Derek Masters because I pay cash and I will get a discount. Thanks!

I went to Dr Fong’s to get a cleaning and my wisdom teeth removed before my dental insurance expired. I absolutely loved the staff and Dr Fong’s work. Everyone was very professional and they are up to date on their equipment and technology. Luckily I had 2 wisdom teeth and they weren’t growing weird so Dr Fong took them out and I didnt feel anything at all while I was awake. Him and his staff take the time that you get the best care possible and they followed up to see how I was doing the next day which i greatly appreciated.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Fong’s for 21 years AND honestly, I have to say he is one of the best dentists I know AND I can definitely vouch for this because I am a 4^th year dental student. Everything I’ve learned in school up until now is how he works — by the book. I have also interned at his office prior to dental school and the work I’ve seen him do is beautiful. I can definitely say I have seen good and bad dentistry, since I am exposed to it in clinic at school, AND the work he does is one of the best I’ve seen.
The office is also up to date w/​the most recent technology including CAD/​CAM dentistry and digital radiology (LESS RADIATION)!
The staff is also very friendly and I can say, the environment there isn’t scary like how most offices are depicted. I actually like going to the dentist! AND to top that off, I can count on him for help with school and he has never failed to amaze me with his knowledge!
I trust him and only him in my mouth. WHAT WILL I DO WHEN HE RETIRES? Maybe self-​dentistry? I’m just kidding, but I wouldn’t imagine going to anyone else but him!

I have been going to Dr. Fong for 5+ years. A coworker recommended him to me. I actually enjoy going to my exams and cleaning. Jackie at the front desk is always friendly and remembers who you are. Pat is my favorite dental hygienist. She does a great job and gives me just enough of a hard time for not flossing as much as I should. There is a parking garage across the street and Dr. Fong’s office validates. The office, exam rooms, and bathroom, are neat and very clean. Also, the waiting room is fully stocked with various magazines! Always a plus!

I’ve been going to this office for over a year now and I couldn’t be happier. I am the type of person who actually likes going to the dentist because I like when my teeth look good. I was happily surprised to find the equipment so up to date with the prices in line with the industry. Each staff member is helpful, and friendly, and really explains any procedure. Dr. Fong is probably the best dentist I have had, and I have been fortunate enough to be seen by some GREAT dentists! I would, have, and will continue to recommend friends and family to see Dr. Fong. Also, parking is across the street, easy access to a structure, which is a nice benefit for an Oakland office!
