The service was really nice but the food was fishy. Akura down the block has way better rolls for lunch!

Sushi is mediocre, the soup was watery, and the flavors are just off. Service is fine, nothing special, like the food. Prices are high considering the quality and what you are getting. Blah, I wouldn’t even consider this a sushi restaurant.

Great lunch spot near my office. The space is on the ground floor of a brownstone so it is a bit tight but the food is delicious and well priced.

One of my favorite sushi spots, particularly before or after the movies. I love LOVE the Green Lady.

I came here with 4 friends on a Wednesday. Honestly, the food was not that bad once we got it, but the service was reeeally sub-par. We were sitting for probably 20 minutes before anyone approached us, and then another 10 before we could order. We waited a good 45 minutes for our food(all sushi) and when my friend got up to ask our waiter the status, he replied«it will come, you’re not our only customers.» Not the most warm response! I got the Crazy T roll I believe, and salmon sashimi. It was pretty standard, nothing to rave about but would be a four starrer if they had good service.

Really enjoyed this place. Their miso was awesome and the rolls were delicious. Fish tastes very fresh. Highly recommend their plum wine. Their rolls are fairly small, so expect to buy 2 – 4 depending on how much you like to eat.

I love their selection of interesting sushi rolls! Every time I come here, I order a different roll and it’s always delicious. I will be back enough times to try everything on their menu!

Came in for lunch at noon. The place was tiny and empty but within 15 minutes it was a full house. There’s also more seating in the back that I wasn’t aware of. Upon entrance there was a very thick fishy smell that I wasn’t too fond of but after reading many reviews I thought I’d have to give this place a try. I ordered the three roll lunch combo $ 12.50 I got the shrimp tempura roll salmon roll and the white tuna roll. 6 pieces each All very delicious. Not sure if it was purposeful but I liked the subtle toasted sesame seeds that were scattered around my rolls. But they charged $ 1 for eel sauce really?

Umi Sushi is a quick walk from my office so I like to come here from time to time. I think this is a pretty solid place for a good lunch special. I’m not complaining with a $ 12.503 roll lunch special. The special has a good variety of rolls to choose from and you get both soup and salad. The salad is meh but the soup is tasty. The fish tastes fresh, my order is made quickly and the staff is very nice. It’s not amazing here but you will feel satisfied. I think that the shrimp tempura roll needs to be bigger. I’m coming back!

Don’t be fooled by the exterior of the place, it’s some damn good sushi. We had been craving sushi for a while, but there are so many sushi places in NYC, it was hard to choose one — we chose this one because we wanted to try out the sushi for 2 option. It was about $ 55, and came with 18 pieces of sushi, a chef’s special roll, and a spicy tuna roll. The fish was all fresh and delicious(the salmon was my favorite), and the roll was great — it was like a California roll with tempura, topped with crabmeat and the tobiko(fish roe). The spicy tuna was great too! Our meal came with miso soup which was nice, too. Loved this place, and would definitely recommend to someone who’s not super picky about sushi. I’ll be back, Umi Sushi!

I was pleasantly surprised by this place. We were in the area, checked for nearby places with good ratings on Unilocal and decided to give this place a try. It looks very unassuming from the outside. When you walk in, there is a sushi bar with seating and a few tables. It looks very small, but there is a back area with more seating. There is also an outdoor area — we didn’t see this, but we noticed a sign stating the patio was open. The food here was very good. The options are some of the more unique ones I’ve seen, we had a really hard time choosing which rolls to get. We ordered 5 rolls and they served them all on 1 dish instead of bringing them out separately, which was nice. They give you a hand towel in the beginning to clean your hands and at the end of the meal you’re given oranges. Food: We ordered the Lion King, Angel, Sweet Potato, Special Banana, Sunshine. I honestly can’t say which I liked the best. Every time I took a bite of one I thought that was the best, then I took a bite of another one. All were very good. The banana was really interesting, I’ve never had a roll with banana before. I liked all of these rolls, I’d recommend any one of them. Drinks: Nothing in particular stood out here. We got hot sake and beer. Overall: Don’t be fooled by your initial impression of this place, stick around, the sushi is very good.

Affordable Lunch Specials: $ 10 Bento Boxes — 2 Rolls $ 8 — 3 Rolls $ 12 –They all come with a house salad and a miso soup Their house ‘brown rice green tea’ had a very peculiar note that I didn’t like. But it was piping hot and free. Chef’s Rolls: PANDA — There was lot of flavor here: Seared albacore, salmon skin, avocado, cucumber, spicy mayo and black sesame sauce. It had some crunch, the fish was juicy, the avocado balanced it and the sauce made it come together. However, my roll was served with a banana leaf on top and it was burned it some spots. The waitress tried to convince me that the smokiness was intentional in this roll. While I did enjoy the smoke element, there is a difference between a subtle smoke, a powerful smoke, a sear, a char and burnt. This leaf was BUNRT. The tuna was BURNT, not SEARED. It imparted a raw, charcoal-like taste to the sushi. Rather than offering me another roll or re-doing the same roll, she simply insisted that this was how it was supposed to be. After pointing to the burnt spots, she just didn’t care. This is not true for all, but many Asian restaurants have this mentality that the customer can never be right. I’m sure the roll is good; I tasted a lot of flavor, but the one I had was over-seared and burnt, and her stubbornness and unwillingness to make the situation better really ruined my experience. Overall, the sushi was fresh, the many rolls I’ve had were tasty(both lunch and special rolls), and they have plenty of variations to keep everyone satisfied. It seems small from the outside, but the restaurant has several hallways of space. I would still recommend this as one of the better sushi places in the area. Recommended: Any lunch special, Panda Roll, Green Tea Ice Cream

This is your standard quantity over quantity sushi sushi spot. Nothing special, just average sushi as it tastes like it was pre prepared. The UNI sushi was horrible. It was definitely frozen and old before they served it. The color was dark and it was pasty and didn’t break up well in the mouth. I should have not saved that sushi in the end as it left my pallet a disgusting taste. I ordered the Tiger specialty roll and the sushi was kind of dry. The the fish was not moist and the side of soy sauce was the only thing keeping it from being dry. Although I have to say the caviar on top of it was good and it helped a bit. Another honorable mention is the sauce used on the crabs on the center of the dish. That was tasty. I did try a bite of my friend’s teriyaki chicken and the teriyaki sauce was really good. I should have ordered that dish instead. For a sushi spot I wouldn’t come back for sushi.

Definitivamente delicioso, maravilloso.

Fantastic spot for sushi lunch, not so much for late night or groups because it’s pretty small on the inside. I ordered the $ 10 lunch special which got me two rolls, miso soup, and a salad. The miso soup was extremely welcome as I just came in from the freezing cold! Salad was iceberg lettuce which isn’t a surprise but the dressing itself was tasty. The rolls were great, I ordered the crunchy spicy salmon and the yellowtail + avocado. Both rolls were perfectly executed and tasted fantastic. For the price, this sushi is a steal! Will be back.

Small Japanese Restaurant. Here’s a rule of thumb of Unilocal for future reference. If you see the restaurant having 4STARS, make sure you cross reference and scroll down to see the rest of the reviews, going through the 2nd, 3rd and 4th pages, because they are mostly 1, 2 and 3 stars. We failed to do so, and ended up eating here! :( You know there is a problem when you walk into a Japanese restaurant and there are no Asian dining at this restaurant! That’s big sign of going somewhere else. Again, we failed to do so, since its been a long day of flight, cab to get to our hotel and we were hungry. The sushi was really just average. The staff was not all that courteous and one of the waitress was arguing with me on an order that I thought I ordered something else. My husband told me to just let go. I swear if we keep at it, it will be 2 women fight! Are you serious at a restaurant over a $ 6 roll of sushi?

This spot is perfect when you’re looking for a fast, affordable, low-key sushi lunch. Their lunch special is clearly geared toward the many office workers in the area, and I’m a believer. It’s definitely fancy sushi, but it’s many steps up from a boxed sushi at a grocery store so it’s good enough for me! The best deals are the 2 or 3 roll combos or the $ 10 bento for lunch. The 3 roll combo is my usual go-to, and definitely enough to fill me up. The rolls aren’t anything crazy, but nice simple rolls that do the trick(see a theme here?) I usually go with things like the yellowtail scallion roll, salmon avocado roll, etc. I recently decided to branch out and tried the $ 10 bento with chicken katsu. Though there’s no raw fish(comes with a CA roll), it is a ton of food for a lower price than the roll combo. The chicken was fresh and nicely cooked, and you still get the tasty salad and soup. On nice days I highly recommend you take a table in their little outdoor patio — such a nice way to take a lunch break! Otherwise the indoor space is pretty teeny and a little cramped, though very clean and well-maintained. Like I said, it’s definitely nothing to jump up and down about but for someone who gets sushi cravings and doesn’t want to break the bank, this is a good choice!

Don’t let the first dining area fool you. This restaurant is rather spacious — with three dining areas AND patio seating, the wait for a table shouldn’t be too long. I didn’t find anything too special about the sushi options — they don’t offer hotate(spicy chopped scallop) and on this particular day they were out of uni — but their specialty rolls seem to be a favorite amongst Unilocalers. For lunch, they offer a great deal. Whether you just want sashimi, a bento box, or multiple rolls, you’ll walk away full without breaking the bank.

I’ve been here several times over the years and it is my favorite spot in the East 30s for sushi. Last night I went with my boyrfriend for a quick bite before dancer rehersal. Here’s what we had: –Roll Combo Dinner Option B: This comes with Spicy Tuna, Salmon Avocado & Eel Cucumber and is served With Miso Soup Or Salad –Chef’s Special Rolls: -«Mongolian” — eel & cucumber top with mango, tobiko & eel sauce -«Rich” — spicy salmon, crunch top with salmon, avocado & tobiko -«Spicy Girl” — black pepper tuna, avocado, honey wasabi sauce inside, spicy salmon, crunch & tobiko on top A couple of things I like about this spot: — They have a list of specifically spicy rolls — You will not have to wait for a seat — They have outdoor seating — They are fast with the order and fast with the check — The sushi is fresh Be adventurous and try something off the Chef’s Special Rolls menu. They have some great combos! Panda roll.

I was looking for a place to grab sushi and sit outside. Here in NYC the sushi part is incredibly easy. The outside part, not so much. After a quick scan on Unilocal,Umi sounded promising enough to deliver both. When my coworker and I walked inside we were really confused. There was no outdoor seating to be found, instead just an ordinary sushi joint on an ordinary city block with ordinary tables. After telling the host that we wanted an outdoor table, we followed him down through 3 dining rooms and a long hallway(who knew that this little storefront had such a large inside) and then BAM. Before we knew it, we were transported into a secret garden of sorts, a backyard sushi oasis in the heart of Flatiron. It was unlike anything I had ever seen before. I’m almost hesitant to review because I want it to be my own secret spot. I ended up backing out on sushi and just went with 2 of my Japanese restaurant staples– fried pork gyoza and a seaweed salad– a foolproof plan really. The seaweed salad had shredded cucumber in it which was a really nice touch. I order this guy ALOT and haven’t seen that before. My pork gyoza was perfectly pan fried and came with a sweet dipping sauce. I never get sick of this dish, and won’t make a trip to a Japanese restaurant without ordering. Umi did it right, no complaints. Like most other sushi spots, they’ve got a great lunch special. 3 rolls and a side salad/soup for 13 dolla dolla bills ya’ll. Not too shabby. The service was quick and pleasant, the food was exactly what I wanted it to be, and we didn’t need to sit under the confinements of a roof on a warm and sunny day. All great reasons in my book to make a trip back here again for lunch.
