Does W B’way and 6th intersect? Yes, below Canal. Near Lispenard? This is the convo we had on the cabbie after looking at the map on taxi TV. Great space… high high ceilings and checkerboard floor. After work scene looked like mostly lawyers(men in suits, women in sweaters and sensible shoes). Not many people eating but friendly bar staff and just a gorgeous space.

My gosh, I’m going to gush about this place for awhile. We were a group of 7 girls here celebrating an engagement of one of our friends. We walked in and it takes your breath away. The space is lofty feeling, mile high ceilings with a great architectural mixture of glass and steel. Decorated in such a romantic way with candlelight and flowers. We were seated immediately even though a few of the girls were running late. We couldn’t decide which wine we wanted so our waiter got the manager over who offered to let us sample between the ones we were debating. He was patient and friendly. He helped us pick our wine and it was delicious. He asked us what we were celebrating for and later on sent over a bottle of champagne compliments of Trigo. They put candles on our desserts. This is the kind of attention to detail that sets places apart in your memory. There are a gazillion of great restaurants in NYC, but only a few that makes you feel like you are a special customer to them. This place definitely pleased us in that respect. The food was a good mix of many different cuisines. We had the butcher’s platter, the cheese platter a generous amount of appetizers, entrees and great desserts. If there was one thing that stood out in a not so good way, it would be that we waited a little longer for the food than we would have liked. I was starving by the time we were served. But just s small blip in a beautiful night. Everyone was just soo nice and attentive. They made this special experience truly stand out. I’d recommend anyone to come back here. I hope it stays around!

It’s noon and I’m still a bit worn out from last night’s activities, so I’ll keep it brief. The space: Spacious, but itimate. This can easily accommodate a large group on short notice(as I learned yesterday) or allow for a very ntimate dining experience without feeling bunched in. The bar: Fully stocked. Could use more beers on tap though. The food: Very balanced menu, They had a little of everything and all(my group of 20 was able to sample most of the menu) of it was delicious. No one flavor in a dish overshadowed the other. I recommend the pappardelle with lobster, olive oil poached monkfish tail, or duo of lamb as an entrée. Overall, I was very please with my experience. Oh, I almost forgot! I’d also highly recommend hitting this place up on «Sangria Thursdays».

Cant say enough good things about Trigo — Everything we ordered was delicious from the flat breads to the desserts and everything in between. The atmosphere was very nice — lots of space with high ceilings, yet it still felt very warm and cozy and inviting. Service was great, super friendly and very attentive. I will definitely be coming back!

I know that a certain website(it shall remain nameless) is playing too large a role in my life when I enter a new restaurant for dinner and the first thing I think is, «Damn, now THERE is something to Y— about!» But I confess to thinking just that when I walked into Trigo and was greeted simultaneously by a charming host and a beautiful lofty space in glass, steel, and mirrors. Seriously, this space could feel cavernous and cold given the open layout and high ceilings, but it doesn’t — instead, it’s airy, inviting, and quite warm. C said, «It’s so… Mackintosh!» Point well-taken. C and I started at the bar, with a drink called Memoirs of a White Rose(I kid you not) and a glass of Arneis, respectively. Nice wine selection, and creative mixed drinks(though I’m growing a tad tired of «mixologists» and their magical concoctions, one trying to top the next…). We had made a reservation earlier in the day, and were seated a great little table. Our server came over promptly and was friendly as all get out. First things first: cheese, baby. We ordered a cheese board with a «selection of three.» Now, I generally think less is more when it comes to things like cheese. Quality of over quantity and all. But the pieces of cheese that arrived on the board were meager scraps, to put it nicely. Two of them were delicious. One tasted like some combination of cumin and musty shoes. I love small plates, sharing, and fresh vegetables, so I was delighted with the Farmstand section on the menu… we ordered a bunch. The carrots + dates(pleasantly heavy on the parsley) and the pomegranate panzanella(pom seeds, cucumber, feta, radishes, tomatoes, bread… mmm) tied for first place. The citrus beets came in second place — but I have a hard time saying no to anything with beets. Also worth mentioning here: good bread basket. At this point, our bellies were filling up too much to order big mains, so we each got another smallish plate — C had scallops and I had butternut chestnut soup. Both were nice, not stellar. Light white wines were a perfect accompaniment throughout our meal. Dessert: good stuff. I want to go back tonight for three more desserts. At least. Maybe four. Anyway, we shared the Chocolate Candy Bar — a decadent treat of chocolate, halva, something like pudding, a few pieces of hot candied ginger, and a dollop of ice cream on top. Aww yeah. Service from start to finish was mostly lovely. Yes, there were moments when we felt like we had to flag a server down, but it *was* a busy night, and Trigo *is* new, so perhaps still ironing out some details. In any case, overall, the service definitely added points toward the net positive rather than taking them away. And it is so nice not to feel rushed… we enjoyed a really, really leisurely evening, with no sense of anyone breathing down our necks. Stevie Wonder’s Another Star(one of my favorites) was playing as we paid the bill. This took the edge off. Next time, I’m thinking salsify tagliatelle, dandelion salad, and either lemon mousse or chocolate doughnuts… or both.

Thankfully, this has nothing to do with the Hilton Garden Inn next door but if you’re a guest, room service can provide dishes from Trigo we were told. Ok, ok, I am grateful this caters to the hotel directly because FINALLY we will have a place down the street that starts serving breakfast at 6am! High ceilings, lots of lines, check-o-rama from floor to ceiling and a nice bar(which was empty unfortunately BUT it was Sunday and we did go early). The food was very good. From the tapas menu I wouldn’t get the carrot salad again but both beet salad and pickled pumpkin were pretty good. Again, our waiter assured us that these plates are small(as in 3 bites) — they’re NOT that small. I could have dealt with the just the beets as I opted to try 3 different vegetables for my appetizer. The tomato garrotxa flatbread was a bit bland so next time we’ll try the lamb one. My boyfriend had the monkfish tail and he loved it, I had the bass and loved it, too. Desserts were fantastic. We shared the fennel cake, which was super good and the bombolini were out of this world. Rioja by the glass was great. Very friendly front of the house. Next time I’m sitting at the bar for a change as I prefer to eat at the bar.
