I absolutely loved this place and loved the fact is was affordable too, as restaurants in the city are getting out of control with their pricing. Highlights were the octopus, Greek salad and eggplant dip. Great Greek dry red wine too. Will definitely return!

Went here years ago, good solid Greek food and friendly staff. Very busy area but if your in the mood for authentic Greek food, you won’t be disappointed.

Outstanding food and extremely kind service! I ordered the grilled chicken platter and I loved it! A little pricey but will definitely go back.

The complimentary pita bread and hummus is to die for! The bread is so soft and the hummus is just perfect! Its a spacious restaurant and very easy to get seated on a weekday. The waiters are very friendly and offer suggestions if you ask. I loved the mini salad with my chicken Slovaki platter. You can choose your side of fries, potatoes etc… Highly highly recommend the potato! It is so flavorful and cooked well, has a nice tangy taste to it. Would definitely revisit the place!

This place was quite empty on a Tuesday night but I’m glad it was empty. The service was good and the complimentary pita bread for the table was real tasty and fresh, I wanted to eat more of it but didn’t want to fill myself up. For the main, I got the grilled salmon dish with the Greek chips. I wasn’t a fan of the Greek chips as I found them slightly too oily, but the char on the grilled salmon was solid — I enjoyed the salmon steak. Overall, even though it was a solid salmon steak and the pita bread was good, the prices were higher than ideal for me, so I doubt I will be back for any just casual meal.

If I could, I would have given this restaurant a 2 ½ star rating. Being that I can’t, I thought I’d be gracious and go with 3(versus 2) stars, as if you’re in this neighborhood, there simply aren’t a heck of alot of options, and you can do alot worse. And location is where I’ll begin this review. I was going with a friend to a show at the Gerald W. Lynch Theater at John Jay College. The weather last night called for rain/thunderstorms, so we really wanted to dine as close to the theater as possible, versus say, closer to Lincoln Center. The reviews for The Greek Kitchen seemed overwhelmingly positive, and when I fist saw the restaurant, it did not disappoint. It really is a lovely space, with a warm ambiance. There is a fairly large, open dining area, and then a covered/heated area with tables for two along the windows. We were seated at 1 of those tables for two, which was nice, but also tucked away. It took a while to track down our waitress, which was really only accomplished when friend got up to let them know we were pre-theater. As others have mentioned, the service can use a little attention. Our waitress seemed a combination of bored, annoyed and tired. The warm ambiance of the restaurant quickly cooled down. I wasn’t expecting Gramercy Tavern type service, but a smile, hello and not rolling your eyes when I ask for no-onions in my salad, isn’t asking for all that much. They brought the food out very promptly, which was great, being that we told them we were pre-theater. Friend ordered the octopus appetizer and the taramosalata. They seemed to enjoy it, although I thought the octopus dish looked a little skimpy. That may just be me, or the fact that my gyro platter was simply over-flowing. It was a combination of lamb, Greek salad and rice. If you order the gyro, I can assure you, you will not leave hungry. Living in Queens I have access to excellent Greek food. I’ve had better Gyro platters. The salad was short on lettuce and feta. As for the lamb, while there was lots of it, it was small bits and bites that were mostly burnt. I ordered coffee, but didn’t even bother getting a refill. We had to ask a couple of times just to get the check. Overall, if I was in the neighborhood again and wanted to dine close to the theater, I would go back to The Greek Kitchen. I’d ask to sit in the main dining room the next time, and I’d choose another dish, but yes, I would give it another shot. I would just have a different set of expectations, the second time around. If my expectations weren’t set so high to begin with, it may actually deserve a solid 3 stars.

Filling and healthy greek food that’s not too pricey. I had the pork souvlaki and the pork was seasoned perfectly, and the sauce was light and exquisitely complemented the pork! Would definitely come back. They also gave me more sauce when i asked for the togo box. the restroom is so cute and clean which is a plus!

This restaurant is a gem in Hell’s Kitchen. The service is lovely, the food is delicious, especially the mixed grill, and the dessert is fantastic(especially the chocolate cake and baklava which my mom and I shared) I think the only gripe I might have would be that they were switching the beer menu, so I didn’t get the beer I wanted, but I had an equivalent that was really nice, and the manager on duty was very polite about it. I can’t really ask for more than that. I will definitely return again.

Wow! I was really spoiled with amazing Greek food living in Astoria and being close to Whitestone so I really wasn’t expecting anything spectacular from The Greek Kitchen. However, I was proven wrong when I came here for a quick weekend lunch during a break from a class at the nearby hospital. Platters are fairly large even at lunchtime, but I like that you get a salad with your choice of entrée and a choice of a side. Sandwiches in pita are pretty generous. My friend got the gyro sandwich and I got the gyro plate. My plate had so much meat I had to give some to my friend. Compared to other gyro meats I’ve had, I felt that the gyro at The Greek Kitchen is a bit thicker(not a bad thing). We also got the spinach pie which was great. Good quick service, great Greek food. I will definitely come back if I am in the area.

Had a lovely time here. Had the Mousaka. Fresh and delicious. A lot of meat in it. Amazing Earl Grey tea at the end which surprised me how aromatic was. The staff is very friendly and generous. Love the place and certainly will be back.

This is an extremely good family-style Greek restaurant. Our waiter was friendly and helpful, and our food was a superb value. We had saganaki, gyro, and the pork and chicken souvlaki. All of it was well seasoned and delicious. The ambience is homey and unpretentious. In all, definite do-again.

Around the corner from me and I can’t believe I took so long to check this place out!!. Soooo good. Didn’t have wine(although their menu looked intriguing!) Or dessert, but two entrees were perfect. SO got the striped bass which and I tried and was light and tasty. I LOVE my chicken souvlaki. Well spiced, most chicken, yogurt sauce was wonderfully garlicky, potatoes were amazing(lemon and rosemary omg!) and even the pitas were well warmed and light. Can’t wait to go back!

Solid greek flavors, really nice portion sizes. We thought the beets app with the garlic mash was very good… and sorta different. We went for lunch and for about $ 30 bucks we both ate, and have leftovers for lunch again. A very easy go-to spot for nice greek food.

Love this place!!! They have the best chicken. I get the chicken souvlaki every time with the side of rice with marinara on it, and it never disappoints!!! Such delicious chicken and I am very picky about it. They also have amazing baklava which I’ve been given free a couple of times for no reason haha they are very nice people.

Visited a family member at Mount Sinai across the road and we were hungry so we decided to check out The Greek Kitchen. It was a great decision because the staff is very friendly and the food was one of the best and healthy Greek I have had in a long time. The seating by the windows are recommended very private and romantic.

Went with a friend last night. I enjoyed this place so much! The atmosphere was so nice. I loved the enclosed patio. The neighborhood has a lot of character so it was like dinner and a show. The tzatziki and spanakopita were the best I’ve had anywhere. The service was spot on. By the way, their website does a good job of giving you a good sense of the place before you get there. I plan to go back as often as I can. enjoy!

Really 3.5… But not quite a 4. I had the lemon chicken egg soup, I can’t remember what it’s called but it was a super tasty. The service was decent. Nothing crazy exciting but this seemed to be a pattern for me during my NY stay. There didn’t seem to be any dessert options, which if you know me, that’s a problem. The shape of the restaurant made it very easy to hear the surroundings tables conversations. Which, depending on your entertainment style you might enjoy. The prices weren’t bad at all. I’m in between on this place. Not pressed to come back but it was good for what it was.

Had The Greek Kitchen for lunch this afternoon — it is a fairly large restaurant with nice indoor«sidewalk» seating, which is awesome on a nice day and for people watching. The entrance is shared by Clinton Bakery next door. The prices are so-so for the neighborhood and for the food. $ 9 gyro sandwich — HUGE. Comes with nothing but the sandwich, however. The bf had this and he was stuffed — comes with the usual. $ 5 side of fries — these«fries» are more like thick cut potato chips that are somewhat soft, covered in parmesan cheese. The bf thought these were«alright» — probably was expecting normal cut fries(so was I). $ 13.50 gyro platter — came with choice of grain(I chose orzo) and a side salad. The salad didn’t have enough dressing on it, but from what I could tell, the dressing was good. Not as many ingredients as the Greek salad main. The lamb gyro was really greasy, but meaty, tender, hot, and had a nice«charred» taste to it. The orzo was hot — for some reason I thought it would come cold — and had a bit too much black pepper in it(not the fresh stuff, but that meh-tasting flaky black pepper). The tzatziki sauce was full of dill and cucumber — very fresh tasting and I enjoyed this. They serve pretty decent coffee, my but iced coffee was on the receipt as a «iced espresso» since they«didn’t have any other buttons» for it. Huh. Service was quite slow for the amount of people in the restaurant, but out waiter was very nice. We’ll put this one in the«maybe I’ll return» pile.

Good service!!! Like it here!!! They are so friendly!!! Good food!!! Good drink!!! Nothing to say about it!!! Try to find something bad to say… But nothing bad to say… Everything is perfect!!! Then, They bring me the wrong salad, and I ate it… Then they bring me another salad that I ordered… So they give me the wrong one for free… I have no idea what did I ordered, and I forgot what I ordered… the food came to my table, I just eat them… And this is my first time to eat Greek food… Also it’s my first time to be here!!! The salad is HUGE!!! Omg!!! A LOT!!! I can’t finish them!!!

I’m giving it 3 stars because it’s not family friendly. No kids meals or kids options can make this a pricey meal when you take the family. Otherwise really good. Service was quick, not very personable but fast. Portions were huge, I couldn’t even finish all of my food. Pita bread was amazing. I got the gyro and my kids shared the pork kabob. Their kabob was far tastier than my gyro which was still really good! I wanted to switch though. Strange observation: their water was awful. I couldn’t drink it. Being a southern girl I ordered iced tea which I also couldn’t drink. It tasted like it had gone bad. All I can speculate is because it was made from the same bad water. I would definitely go again, but sans kids. No wait, quick service, and lots of space will make it a place to grab a quick and filling meal!
