Tandoori West was a great place with reliable Indian food but it is now closed and has been replaced by a Latin American restaurant.

the food is great here but there sanitary grade is currently a «c», and here is why(directly from the nyc restaurant inspection site) sanitary violations 1) evidence of mice or live mice present in facility’s food and/or non-food areas. 2) facility not vermin proof. harborage or conditions conducive to attracting vermin to the premises and/or allowing vermin to exist. you should go out of your way and tell owner why you stopped eating here(i sure did)… and its a shame, because not only is the food great, but the owner is extremely nice! like i said, i loved this place, but… you get the idea.

Finally … Indian food with perfect spices . Consistently delicious ! I have been ordering only vegie dishes, but never disappointed . The garlic nan bread comes out warm & crispy, in fact all the dishes comes out at the correct temp(important to me). Nice staff

I was pleasantly surprised. I had been meaning to go here for a while. The mint sauce with the papadum was intense and flavorful — always a good sign. We started with onion bhujia that was crisp on the outside but succulent on the inside — perfect. My wife had tandoori chicken was fine but nothing special and i had the chicken hara masala, which was very tasty. Waiters were attendant and pleasant. A pleasant surprise. And they even had decent wine for $ 22. A chilean cab, Casa del Diablo is good buy and a steal for a $ 22 at a restaurant. I just read that it may be closing — that community board 7 was discussing approving a permit for its successor. Well better late than never discovering this place.

Bad food, delivery took long time and was not worth the wait or the money spend . Wish I didn’t have to write this but couldn’t help it.

Between the consistently complex and careful preparation of all dishes, and the quiet, gentle atmosphere, Tandoori isn’t only a remarkable neighborhood treasure, but also among the best Northern Indian cuisine in NYC.(And the best dahl makani i’ve ever tasted.) Come by for the delightful and embarrassingly inexpensive lunch buffet and enjoy the kaleidoscope(both on the colorful foods on the buffet and at the local color at the tables).

Tandoori is one of my office’s go-to places for quick, reliable Indian delivery. The lunch specials are extremely affordable and abundant and the delivery is usually very fast. We usual revolve around the same things: Hara Ghost Lamb(a spicy, tangy ginger sauce) and Palak Paneer. It comes with bread and rice and is less than $ 9 per order. It’s a little different in person, though. I’ve been here for buffet a handful of times The food is pretty good(although most of my favorites aren’t around) but the service is a little bit grim –quick and mostly attentive but never cheery. It could be worse though, right? Delivery it is!

My friend insisted we eat here even though we had to walk 11 blocks in the frigid winter air. I love good Indian food, so we went to check out this place that he was raving about(«This is the only Indian food I eat on the Upper West Side»). It didn’t disappoint. When we arrived on a Friday night around 8PM, there were maybe 3 other tables. The waiters were attentive and quickly brought us menus and filled our water. There was no rush and they were great about taking our orders right about when we started searching for them. The other Indian place I went to in the UWS did a poor job in the service category, so this was a nice change of pace. I ordered the Chicken Makhani like I always do. It was a little less creamy than I liked, but the base of the sauce was still delicious(more tomato-y than creamy). The chicken pieces were a little odd because it felt like there were cartilage pieces in it, but the meat still tasted fine so I ignored it. The garlic naan that we ordered were delicious, but still standard. Can’t really go wrong with the naan. I didn’t try any of my friend’s foods, but they all looked delicious and we pigged out on the rice. Like almost all Indian restaurants, refills on rice are free so don’t feel scared to ask! The basmati rice was excellent and was one of my favorite part of my meal. I think it’s still a bit pricey at %12.95, but it was good enough that I won’t complain. I definitely want to try coming back for the buffet option!

A big let down! Very few dishes and not the best of the quality! To beat it all — poor customer service!

Goan Shrimp Curry! Prawn masala– the best! Not on menu– order it anyhow! I try to come here once a year when I’m in the city. The folks here are friendly and accomodating. The food is SOGOOD! We came here again and again and I loved the hammered bronze water glasses so much and said so often enough that the owner wrapped one up and gave it to me. So nice!

This is my favorite neighborhood lunch spot for Indian buffet. The chef produces consistently high quality delicious choices. One or two of the dishes vary daily and the rest are mainstays. I make my plate healthier by using salad greens and cole slaw as a base(instead of rice) for all the yummy dishes. The staff brings beautiful warm naan in a basket to your table, although recently I politely decline because I’ve given up eating bread. The staff and owners are friendly but not overbearing. You can sit in the dining room for 20 minutes or 2 hours, it’s a wonderful easy affordable indian lunch. On my last visit I heard other patrons praising the chef’s eggplant dish, which he usually makes on Sundays. I’ll have to make a Sunday trip to try it. I love this place!

I will never go back. I ordered the chicken samosas. They were so dry and tasteless as to be inedible. When I complained to the waiter, all he said what they are supposed to taste that way because they are deep fried. I ordered the Chicken Saag. I asked him if I needed to order rice. He said it came with it. What appeared was a glop of spinach with about three or four pieces of chicken. The rice was tasteless white rice. I guess once you have had the same menu in London, one is spoiled. However, this was a real disaster.

Came for the lunch buffet at 2:50pm. When I got my food and sat down was asked if I wanted more as they were going to close the buffet. Huh? They could’ve told me before I sat down thru we’re going to close. I felt rushed and not really taken care of… Not cool. Decent food. The vegetables werr the best. The spinach was good, a little spicy but not too hot. The owner needs to smile more and at least pretend he cares.

Every Friday it was a ritual to buy a bottle of wine and some chicken tikka masala with samosas. Friendly staff, fast service and the afternoon buffet is one of my favorites– when I can make it. A gem in the neighborhood.

This is the real deal folks, tastes like the month I spent in India! Tucked away in a quiet, hole in the wall space you might walk right by this little gem. The food is North Indian, richer and spicer than the coconut curries of the south. Think cardamon, ginger, turmeric. Yum! Everything on the menu is good. Try the lamb dishes or the saag paneer. Bonus, it’s cleanse friendly. Most meals are dairy, gluten, soy, egg and corn free. Even the crackers are lentil, eg gluten free.

Appetizers where very great — my favorite was the Onion Fritters. Also the samosas with mint chutney were amazing! With such awesome appetizers, I was looking forward to my main course. Ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, which I found listed under specialties. When it came to the table, I took one bite & put it down. It was clear they used canned tomato soup as a short-cut. It was TERRIBLE! Left me so disappointed. Wanted to give them 4 stars, but really can’t.

Really great experience at Tandoori last night(Wednesday night). went with a date — was a nice place to have a romantic time, and good conversation. The restaurant is spacious, and decorative. The service is friendly, and has a patient & pleasant demeanor. I ordered the chana saag and I loved it. It was so creamy and very flavorful. The place has a full bar. Defs recommend this place. i would tell the restaurant to update it’s storefront sign, as it’s kind of ugly.

I’d been meaning to go here for a while, thinking how nice it would be to have a serviceable Indian place in the nabe. I finally ordered for delivery and wow, it was great. An order of vegetable samosas turned out to be two fist-sized objects with a flavorful blend of potato and peas. One was plenty, and I tucked Samosa No. 2 away for breakfast the next day. I’d also ordered the Chicken Tikka Tandoori Specialty. Even though it had been delivered, it still was amazingly moist and tender and full of flavor. The spices made every bite memorable. I also got garlic naan, which was huge and doughy and marvelous. This meal exceeded expectations in every way.

Small spot but in a nice area and very good lunch buffet. Everything was fresh and very good quality, even their salad. I don’t know if its just me but I get freaked out when restaurants serve soggy salad with the brown edges… that will instantly turn me off from eating anything else… A great deal at 8.95, I was shocked that their lamb was great quality and all the chicken dishes were very tender. Will definitely be going back soon.

I went here this past Saturday for their brunch/buffet they have on the weekends. Me and my friend were so unimpressed at the buffet offerings we decided to order off the menu. She ordered some soup and veggie samosas. The soup was bland and lacking in the usual assortment of veggies you would find in a standard Indian joint. The samosas were greasy/oily and sub-par overall. I ordered the Lamb Saag and a side order of Nan. On the plus side the Nan was good but I think you would have to pretty inept to screw that up. The Lamb Saag was decent but the lamb was over cooked and a bit tough. There are better options within a few short blocks of this place if you want Indian. Indus Valley has a much better weekend buffet. I don’t think I will going back to Tandoori.
