Small cozy restaurant — open in the afternoon(when others are closed). Lunch specials — many options, very flavorful and home style. I tried the dal-spinach — had to complement the chef Mr. Khan — it reminded me of my mom’s cooking!!! The owner-partner Mr. Goshi was extremely friendly and entertaining! Delicious food and friendly cozy environment — felt like we were visiting family !! Must visit on our next trip to NYC for sure!

This place has such lovely service and the food was delicious and came quickly! We had the chicken makhni, chicken tikka, chicken korma and chicken kasmir, and they were all very flavorful and fresh. You can have as much rice as you want, so it’s all very filling and well worth the price, which is already very reasonable. Highly recommend!

This is my go-to place for good, basic Indian food. The chicken tikka masala is excellent. They deliver fast.

Little gem close to our home. They close at 10:30, so when I great for Indian dinner during late hours. Menu is pretty basic with preparations very good for the price. The service is exceptional! They serve alcohol as well. We ordered the chicken kodai and rotis. Chicken was delicious. Rotis are some of the best ones I have had. I asked for some raw onion to go with my chicken, the owner was kind enough to bring in some raw green chillis and sprinkle some tangy spice on it as well. Overall an exceptional experience. Will come again.

The $ 19.95 Gosht Thali combo platter was just horrible. Other delivered dishes a little better but for the money there are better choices in the neighborhood.

I could not even finish my food before writing this because the food was sub-par and this restaurant should not be listed as 4 stars. Appreciated that it was spicy, but that is it.

Outstanding food and service, don’t pass by! Stopped in while walking up Amsterdam, was totally blown away by the authentic Indian favors. The waiter was attentive and nice, and consistently kept my water glass full. Her recommended the Vegetable Pakoras and Goat Vindaloo. The pakoras were something I’ve never had before, but we’re fried lentil onion fritters and a great starter. I asked for the Goat to be spicy and the kitchen did not disappoint. At the end of the meal, I had a scoop of pistachio ice cream which was unique and delicious, hard to describe the flavor, but very aromatic.

I really enjoyed Indian Tanpura! I went last Friday at about 7pm and it was not crowded at all. It’s the best Indian food I’ve had north of midtown and I’ve tried other places nearby. I had the Lamb Vindaloo and my other friends had the Chicken Marsala. We ordered garlic and plan naan – and I would recommend it all. The server was HILARIOUS and very informative with any questions my friend had(it was her first time eating Indian food). I will definitely be back soon!

What else can I say other than BESTCHICKENTIKKAMASALAEVER!!! The service was impeccable. As soon as we arrived we were immediately greeted and treated like family. Small and intimate environment. Our server, Goshi had a very dry sense of humor and had us entertained the entire time. He was completely attentive and knowledgeable. We both ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, Naan, and Onion Kulcha. The Naan was crisp on the outside and soft on the inside. I think I already said, the Tikka Masala was the best I’ve ever had. Can’t wait to go back!

Have gotten the Chicken Tikka Masala and the Chicken Vindaloo. Both are solid and at a better price than other Indian restaurants in the neighborhood. Also, rice is included for free!

Without a doubt the most courteous service for a great price. The head waiter, maybe the owner, was so attentive, bringing more water and rice as we needed. He was friendly and talkative which made for a great start to a delicious meal. We ordered many dishes– chicken kasmir, vegetable vindaloo, eggplant, veg biryani– all incredible, creamy, well-seasoned… I highly recommend the coconut soup as well– never knew something so sweet could be so good hot. You will not leave here hungry– portion is well-matched to price. Enjoy!

I’ve been to all the Indian restaurants in the Upper West Side, and would consider myself a skilled judge of South Asian cuisine, and this one is the BEST I’ve gone to in NYC, especially at this price range. Firstly, the other Indian restaurants in the surrounding are not as authentic, not as flavorful, and not as well priced. Contrary to what a few other reviewers have said, the portions are absolutely not small, they are just served in different dishes than the typical restaurant. Its a good amount of food. The spices are just right, the meat is perfectly done(I had the goat and mushroom saag), the music is relaxing and good atmosphere, and service is super friendly. Overall, this is an excellent Indian restaurant, a hidden gem.

Excellent Indian restaurant, my favorite is the chicken saag. Ask for it prepared soft and you will find the chicken moist, tasty and delicious in a succulent spinach base. The customer service is excellent as well with nice Indian music playing gently in the background.

Came here with my girlfriend one night on a whim Price — very reasonable, in and out for $ 70 with beers Service — the waiter was attentive but not bothersome. Explained to us what tandoori was and how it was different, gave excellent recommendation for lamb dish Food — excellent, enjoyed both dishes and even asked for a third at the end of the meal. Spices were on point, the curry was excellent, bread fresh. All in all great. Would go again, glad we stumbled upon it.
