Not impressed with the price for what the group of friends I was with had. We want in for a light snack and were fairly disappointed all our dishes. The Mac and cheese on of the group had was overly oily and lacked enough macaroni for the amount of cheese served up. The chips were dry and over cooked even the sweet potato lacked the flavour i have had at other places The wrap one of the group had was tasty but the salad dressing they said put them off enjoying the side dish The price was excessive. All round disappointed

This place is a breath of fresh air considering all the high class restaurants just down the block. This place must be a neighborhood staple because the prices are decent, and it got busy while sitting there. First glance it doesn’t look very inviting, but it’s a hidden gem. The food is more than decent diner food and I would come back when in the area again.

My partner and I genuinely enjoy meals at Star On 18 Diner Café our favorite place. We live on 30 street and 9 avenue and many occasions walk fifteen blocks out our way just to eat there. Our favorite is still their terrific Guiros, we also tried many other dishes and were very satisfied with sizable portions, freshness of ingredients and taste the friendly staff is accommodating and courteous. We highly recommended this eatery especially when strolling through High Line

Perfect diner. Huge portions, huge menu, and great service. The pizza burger is really messy. Now this is not a 4 star restaurant, but for what it is, a diner, it is 4 stars. Huge menu and everything is great. We had kiddos with us and the burger and chicken tenders were perfect. Clean, good service And reasonable prices. If you are in the area good simple and affordable choice. If you want something more trendy and fancy eat at Chelsea market. By his is nice simple food.

Coming off the Highline for a quality lunch, with a milkshake, this is the place. The owner who is normally at the counter is greek so do not miss the Gyro. Definitely going back for a breakfast soon.

I’m an out-of-towner who was looking for a place to fill up after walking the High Line. Showed up on a sunny Monday afternoon. I’ve got to say, I was really surprised by how much I enjoyed the eats. I got a tuna salad sandwich with soup and salad. The tuna salad was really a salad(it was green), I like that. The food came quickly but it was also a really quiet time so not surprising. Tasted great and not greasy. A side of fries was bought for the table and they were adequate. The building was pretty much what you’d expect for a corner diner. Good enough for me. Our server was nice but not chatty.

This diner is around the corner from my office, so it’s my go-to when I’m too lazy to go farther or when the weather is bad. The food is fine, nothing great but not bad, and the same can be said for service. Everything is overpriced, no question. Avoid fountain sodas here — they taste off.

4.0 Stars for the breakfast sandwich & bacon 2.8 Stars for everything else Pretty basic diner with decent food, but I prefer other diner locations nearby — The Diner, New Venus & The Dish, for example. The breakfast sandwich & bacon are outstanding which is the main reason I go there.

I’m a bit of a food snob and don’t tend to go to diners or any restaurant for that matter that doesn’t have at least a 4-star rating on Unilocal, but my friends really didn’t want to look for another place to eat. I was pleasantly surprised at how good this place was for a diner. Let me repeat — it’s a diner. The service was really good up until we were done with dinner and were waiting on the bill, which we had to ask for after about 15 minutes of sitting there twiddling our thumbs. I ordered the chicken kabob, which is a strange thing to order at a diner, but it was actually really yummy! Huge portion, of course, but the chicken was really tender and juicy, the rice(albeit short-grained) was good, and there were plenty of veggies too. I had a taste of my friend’s meatloaf, which also had a nice flavor but tasted super unhealthy, and the fries, which were fries. Both of my friends enjoyed their meals as well. You know, it really wasn’t so bad at all. I most likely will never come back here, and I wouldn’t necessarily say I’m a fan(though I know my rating says I am), but I was thoroughly impressed by the food FOR A DINER.

First, it’s a diner. I love diners, what can I say. Second, the person who complained about no soy milk for her sidewalk-service latte, I say: it’s a diner. While you may say you know diners that will be more accommodating, I remind you that the old Empire Diner, the old Paris Commune(when on Bleecker), and others, would shun you if you even asked for decaf, or diet coke, let alone a soymilk latte. Yes, that was then and this is now, and that loss is one of the things that makes NYC less than it once was, not more. The woman who owns the place was always good to my dog at the window, always a piece of bacon or two even if I was only buying a coffee. She’s a good egg. And the huevos rancheros ain’t bad either. Coffee’s good. As I said: it’s a diner. And I like diners.

2nd most horrible place I ever ate … Tons of thyme seasoning on everything and nothing else. Waitress didn’t ask anything or refill water

OK this is the last review I EVER write about this place! I thought seating service is bad BUT window service to??? I was walking by and decided to get an ice latte(which mind you I’m all for supporting the neighborhood diners) BUT when I asked if they had soy milk the nerve of that bald man telling me, no go to Starbucks AND then SLAMMED the window in my face!!! If I can give NOSTARS then that’s what I would have done!!! PS this is for the owners(if you read reviews) hire people who are capable of dealing with customers. Sadly to say your food is good, not great but NOT worth the trouble!

The waiters will rush you, and at first I thought it was just one waiter but after multiple visits, it seems to be most of them. My friend and I started off with milkshakes because we didn’t know what we wanted, but five minutes after we got our milk shakes, our waiter came up to us, claiming that we should order then because they were going to «close the kitchen». Mind you, it is 3:30 pm on a weekday and as absurd as it sounded, my friend and I rushed with our orders. Burgers weren’t very good, buns were from packages you could get at the market. After we finished our food, he rushed us out with placing the check on the table five minutes after the table was cleared. He then had the decency to stand there waiting as we counted the bills and paid for our meal. We were uncomfortable with that action.

Food is alright. Coffee is hot. Servers are friendly but they list a regular cheeseburger on the menu for $ 6 and sweet potato fries for $ 2 extra, but what they charge is $ 12. Maybe my reading comprehension is off or my arithmetic is bad, I don’t know. All I know is the meal wasn’t worth what it cost.

Ordered a cheeseburger and order of chx tenders. It was $ 26 dollars which is NOT what the website quoted. Fries were NOT cooked– burger was cold– condiments were off… SAVEYOURSELFTHETIMEANDDONOTORDERFROMTHISPLACE…

My friend’s favorite, go-to restaurant. It’s close, reasonably priced and has a pretty broad menu. Everything is good, but nothing is really exceptional that I’ve tried.

It’s a diner. Seriously, that’s the best way to describe this place. It’s a diner. You’re getting some decidedly average food and overly friendly servers. Wraps are my go-to in this situation, but I was a bit adventurous and ordered a steak and cheese wrap. Bad idea. The steak isn’t separated properly, which results in overly large chunks of not particularly tender steak. Not a fan. Service is super friendly though, and prices can’t be beat. But really, there’s not much more to it. It’s a diner.

Star on 18 is always empty. I work nearby and occasionally take a long lunch to sit and read by myself. It’s perfect for that. And serviceable for everything else. It’s a standard diner. There are very few surprises. The gyro is maybe above average. The tuna is better than Subway. They make special sandwiches named after sports team– including the Phillies for some reason. And for some reason, the Giants sandwich is a philly steak sandwich. But the Phillies sandwich is chicken parm with french fries on garlic bread. Pretty good, though not as good as the Grease Trucks. The rice pudding is fantastic. Creamy and cinnamony and delicious. It’s the only item on the menu that’s actually worth mentioning. The food is a little overpriced. Those big sandwiches I mentioned are around $ 12. Throw on tax, tip, and a beverage and you’re dropping $ 17 on a basic lunch. The waitstaff can be very helpful while they’re talking to you, but if it’s slow, they really want to watch TV. Average food, prices a little high, but a place to sit quietly. I guess come here if you get lost. Or if you want to linger for two hours over tuna while you read.

Flitting about from gallery to gallery can make even the most intrepid girl hungry. So in need of some fortifications and a little sit down Star on 18 appeared as if serendipitously… There was something charming, reassuring and calming about its painted blue exterior that drew me in… Offered the chance to sit anywhere I took them up on their kind offer commandeering the biggest table in the joint. With a quick clarification it was suggested that I move elsewhere which was no big deal but really? It was not crowded and wishful thinking on their part that some group would walk in. Whatevz. I could live without the table in the corner. At my less big table I placed my humble order of tuna on whole wheat with lettuce and tomato. It came with a quarter spear of a pickle and a little meensy spoonful of not overly mayo’d cole slaw which was crisp. And while not the most well thought out sammie I have ever had was fine, filling and fortifying for the rest of the day ahead. It was a basic reliable tuna sandwich. Yay! As for the other elements– the service was quick, friendly and efficient and the ladies was clean. For $ 11 I had a nice lunch and recommend Star On for those quick bites one needs once in a while that do not turn into a major production and they are welcoming of solo diners. Even those who take giant tables for one. ;))) ;

It’s a diner. There are vegetarian options, like the fat grilled cheese and fries I got. The rice pudding that came with it? Delicious. The place is a little run-down, but as a fan of old-school diners I have a high tolerance for that. The waiter was so nice it was crazy.
