Best dentist, hygienist, front desk staff. Ever I’ve been treated by Dr C. for 30 years, always professionally, efficiently, with a great sense of humor and patience. It’s a busy office with friendly, helpful staff and Margie is the greatest hygienist who teaches me a few things about tooth and mouth care each time I visit. Support staff in the treatment rooms are excellent, understanding, and good humored as well. The new dentist, Dr. Glattstein, fits right in with this team. I recommend them to everyone and will be treated here for the rest of my life.

I had been going to Dr. Convissar for several years for minor dental work. He told me that he could clean my teeth too and that a periodontist was unnecessary. His hygienist did a very rough job on me, leaving me in pain. I called the next day to speak with him, but he refused to come to the phone. His staff told me nothing was wrong. I ended up with a massive infection and lost a front tooth. I had no pain, nothing wrong when I arrived. He ended up referring me to a horrid dentist, who put me on an ineffective anti-​biotic. Dr. Convissar charges little, but ended up costing me thousands of dollars to repair the damage done in his office. I’d pay him $ 10,000 to role back the clock and never to have set eyes on him. Avoid at all costs!

I can’t recommend this dentist. First, I made my appointment using ZocDoc only to find out later that day that the office doesn’t have any dentists on staff for the day I made my appointment. I considered it an honest mistake and took their suggestion to come in the next day. I gave the receptionist our dental insurance information and she said she would verify it. When I showed up the next morning at 9:30AM for the scheduled appointment I was told that they found out I was out of network and that my insurance wouldn’t cover the visit.
They gave me some absurd excuse that they tried to call my insurance company the night before, was kept on hold for 45 minutes, and was then hung up on. Why they didn’t call me back to tell me they couldn’t verify my insurance I have no idea.
Clearly, the office staff at this dentist is running a half-​assed operation and I therefore cannot recommend you spend time here.
It cost us time and money as I arranged for a babysitter to watch our infant during the time I was supposed to be getting my teeth cleaned.
I’m sure they’d have expected payment if I cancelled with no notice; I’m not sure why I was not given the same courtesy.
STAY AWAY!

An appointment with the office of Drs. Convissar and Goldstein does not guarantee treatment by either of these senior dentists. Instead, you may see a dentist who has seen you before, or you may see someone new to you and new to the office. That, I think, is business as usual in storefront dental clinics, but it’s not what you may expect of an office that has been «at this location for more than 30 years.»
If Dr. Goldstein conducts your oral exam, you will receive a lengthy, thorough inspection, a caring and detailed assessment, and an explanation of treatment options.
Dr. Convissar’s oral examinations are the fastest I have ever had. While it is possible that a highly trained professional sees a great deal in a short time, it is reasonable to conclude that the same professional would see more in a longer time.
I tried this office for a while before realizing that I could receive more consistent treatment for the same price at a number of other facilities.
Appointments are on time. The office is clean.

About 2 years ago I decided to go back to Dr Convissar because I had come here before and thought the office was well run.
When I started my new job, I discovered I had dental insurance again. Since I had no idea where to go, I decided to try Convissar again.
I called up to make an appointment, and the only time they had was during the week at 5 PM. I told them that would be great, and all I needed was a cleaning.
I had to leave work early in order to make this appointment, and when I got there, the lady insisted I had scheduled a tooth ache emergency. I explained to her I did not have a tooth ache. She got nasty, and gave me an attitude. I got angry right back. I told her I didn’t have time to leave work early and reschedule, and she should find someone to honor their obligations to me.
As we were going back and forth, one of the hygienists over heard, and offered to help me out. Apparently her patient was late, and she had some free time.
I agreed because I had no choice, although I would have preferred an actual appointment. The cleaning was rushed, although it was not her fault at all, and I didn’t feel like I got the attention I needed.
The whole process took maybe 15 or 20 minutes including everything.
Fast forward to the bill. Apparently this was not in network, so only a percentage after the deductable was covered. I had a 100 dollar deductable, so I figured no problem.
The total bill was 320. 320 for a 10 minute cleaning. My insurance covered 176 dollars, and I was left with a 144 dollar bill.
Since I had been coming here for years, I thought there shouldn’t be a problem. I would just call back, and get it redone, or get a discount. it wasn’t the dentists fault. it was the nasty receptionist who had mis-​booked me.
I called up to explain, and the dentist wouldn’t even call me back. I refused to pay, and 2 months later they put me into collections.
When I called back later, to try and settle this one more time, amicably, and have the bill removed via paying a discounted amount, again the dentist would not call me back. I told them I would leave a negative review.
10 minutes later I received a phone call. It was the receptionist telling me that if I left a negative review, the dentist would sue me.
One of the worst experiences dealing with a professional business. The service was awful, and I was charged way too much for something that was not provided properly.
I am leaving this here, and everywhere else I can think. and I highly recommend using a different dental agency.

The dental exam included ex-​rays, and an oral examination. I think the oral exam lasted 23 seconds. This was the worst professional cleaning possible.
Stay away from here.

I have been going to Dr. Convissar for at least 25 years, and have not even considered going elsewhere. Even though I don’t have dental insurance, I still go every six months to Dr. C because his rates are reasonable, and he does an excellent job. If you need to have major work (I have some bridgework, and old fillings that come out every once in a while), Dr. C is efficient and, best of all, never recommends that something be done when it is not necessary. Once, I went in inquiring about getting my teeth whitened. He recommended Crest Whitestrips. The hygienists are cheerful and quick.
My only gripe, and it’s a problem with many doctors, is that Dr. C is not an all personable with is patients. He talks and jokes around with the staff when you’re in the chair, but tends not to discuss non-​tooth-​related matters with patients, unless asked. Small price to pay.
It’s a very convenient location but (note to the staff at Unilocal), it’s not the «East Village,» as it says in the heading. It’s either Union Square or Gramercy Park.

I have been seeing Dr. Convissar for about 20 years. From what I can see from the awards and certificates lining his office, he’s actually become a trailbrazer in oral treatment. I haven’t needed his more esoteric skills, but his regular service is great. I have never waited more than five minutes in his office and when a crown fell off on a Sunday, he called me back immediately and told me what to do until I got to his office. His prices are reasonable and he is personable and caring, as are all his staff. His office at Union Square could not be more conveniently located. Everyone I have recommended him to have been equally satisfied.
