Charming ambience but lackluster food. My spinach and mushroom tart-sounded delicious-fell far short of potential. Was soggy and bland. My friend was happy with her omelette though.

A great lil café shop for brunch that serves up wonderful tarts and coffee. The coffee is well made and strong as the baristas do a wonderful job. One of the best cup of coffees in the city. Go for a cappacino or a americano. Highlights for me were the chocolate/ganache/sea salt/caramel tart. A buttery flakey tart with a rich chocolate ganache that matched well with the sea salt and caramel. Very yummy if you have a sweet tooth. Great egg dishes as the poached eggs and scrambled eggs were very fluffy pillows of goodness. Great for brunch. A wonderful french parisian feel to the café and had wonderful service. Great place for a date or to relax.

One of the best well run cafes in Soho. Always fast and delicious! Our favorites are the scones the coffee and the egg, bacon and avocado on brioche. The staff is always friendly and upbeat and the music is always great and sets the tone for a great day. The tarts are amazinggg as well. We go almost daily now. Highly recommend after a long day of soho shopping or a great way to start your day!

My son got scrambled eggs. They were the best scrambled eggs ever. Everything was great, but my hat comes off to a chef who can make such a simple thing stand out.

It’s all about their tarts; anything they make; I eat, and enjoy. Actually, all their fresh-baked goodies are yummy; and coffee is good. This place offers the perfect break any moment; plus it’s a good people-watching spot.

$ 20 lunch which consisted of a $ 5 salad that was all lettuce with some purple cabbage and radish slices and a BLT that was on such hard toasted bread that I could barely bite it and it cut up my mouth. Won’t be going back there.

We stopped by here yesterday evening at 515PM and one of the servers sat us down. We were offered menus immediately. Another server came over to note our order and we ordered a bottle of wine for the table. She noted the order, walked back and then came back within a minute and then informed us that they won’t be able to host us since they were closing in 10 minutes. Quite a RUDE and STRANGE experience as we had already hung all our jackets and taken seats. Looks like a terrible place in terms of service! Never stopping by here again!

Great coffee, pie and savory tarts. I came here for a Unilocal Elite event and everything we tried was phenomenal. The owners are adorable and worked hard to make the place original. They’ve succeeded. I would have any of the quiches and the apple cranberry there again. Espresso drinks are phenomenal too!

Once upon a fart. I love going to restaurants and trying food. I visited many different types of places but I’m not really a review person. This time I need to write something cause experience I had in this place was just terrible. I imagine the positive reviews of this spot are posted by friends of people who work there or the workers themselves. At the start we were told that our table will be ready in 5 min. It was more like 15 and the table was open all that time, the only thing they had to do is to put some forks and show us to the table. Not a big deal. Ordering. We waited another several minutes for someone to acknowledge us. Not a big deal. This place has a tart in it’s name so obviously its their specialty right? There were about 4 specialty tarts on the brunch menu. Make it 3 they were out of the only meat option. Not a big deal. So we ordered two tarts some sweet breads a side and Brussels sprouts salad, than waited. Waited some more. and more. It took them about 20 min to get us sweet breads that I assume were baked before right? About 45 min to get us the tarts I would forgive everything if the food was good. it wasn’t. Tarts were just crust and potato’s inside with a slice of salmon on top, tasted like absolutely nothing, bland and mushy. We were offered a coffee or tea on the house for the inconvenience. No thanks, never going back.

The best apple tart I ever had in my whole life!!! I wish I lived in NYC so I could have it whenever I want to have it. It’s just too yummy to live far away from this tart.

Tarts galore! Savory and sweet and any other kind of tart that you can imagine. This place is great to grab a coffee and chit-chat over a tart or to have a nice dinner with a special someone. Once Upon a Tart was once just a coffee shop but the owners made an adjacent restaurant next to the coffee shop for those who want more than just a quick snack and coffee. The restaurant has a quaint and homely feel to it. It is adorned with wooden chairs and tables and a piano towards the back. The fresh flowers really add a lovely touch to the décor and ambiance of the restaurant. The coffees are pretty strong(the only way I like my coffee) and the tarts are to die for! There is even a live band playing once a week — check their website or with the owner for more details.

Terrific place! Tarts are amazing and definitely the house specialty. We came here for the Unilocal Elite Event and I have to say it was the best one I’ve been to. Lots of food, savory and sweet, wine and coffee, music and a great ambience. The owners know how to make people happy and that is with a great vibe and exquisite dishes. Everything was spectacular but I have to make a side note of their vinaigrette and pickled«tapenade»(at least is what I would call it): it was addictive. Literally I couldn’t stop eating it. DELICIOUS! All the other plates were phenomenal: especially their spinach tart with the egg on top and the confit pork tart. Great code too! And what’s better than an apple tart to accompany it? Yes, all that great food. They even gave us a chocolate chip cookies to go that I put on the oven next day. Spread with Dulce de leche on top it was killer! Beautiful people running the place and very cozy restaurant as well. Give it a try! You won’t be disappointed

The Quick: The perfect amount of sweet and savory exemplified by exposed brick charm, cozy seating, and warm staff. Tarts can literally be eaten for every meal, but they also serve soups, salads, and more! The Details: Why all dessert isn’t served in tart form is a mystery to me. This place just gets it. It’s cozy and homey with a French flair that makes the perfect spot for a date or cappuccino for a one with a great book. They also have a full food menu which is not to be overlooked. The dark chocolate ganache with caramel and sea salt has changed my life forever. The Damage: Fair prices, especially for the amazing area. Brunch plates ~ $ 14

Great place for coffee/brunch and now dinner! The owner is very nice and welcoming and often there. The fresh flowers and tea lights on the tables create a more romantic atmosphere — great for date night. And the food… was delicious! The other night, my girlfriend and I ordered a cheese board to share, I got the hanger steak with roasted tomatoes and fingerling potatoes, and she got the cured salmon with potato tart and salad.

A little piece of Paris, slightly off the beaten path in between SoHo and West Village. The interior is beautiful, classic, and the fresh flowers on every table bring a bit of life and color to your meal. This place is perfect for a date, or to just enjoy one of their absolutely delicious tarts! My friend and I shared a Chocolate Pear tart($ 10) that was rich, flaky, and satisfied all my chocolate cravings. Tea was poured from an adorable teapot, with hot water being refilled regularly(something i’m always grateful for on a cold day). 20 minutes into sitting down, a random man came inside and started playing loudly on the piano. My friend and I were extremely confused… was he a homeless piano enthusiast? Was he a regular fixture paid to provide live music? It was such an odd experience because the restaurant’s soundtrack was still playing while the man played rather loudly and in a disjointed fashion. One of the owners went over to speak to him(or ask him to leave??) and after ten minutes, the restaurant was back to its charming, quaint self.

I’ve lived on Sullivan street for 5 years now so I am shocked I haven’t come in sooner. I think the restaurant side of Once Upon a Tart is fairly new. This review is for the food/restaurant side. I came with a group of 5 friends and we luckily got a seat for brunch — but the restaurant was busy. Our waitress was friendly and accommodating. The food was reasonably priced for the large portion sizes and quality as well as the taste. Everyone in my group was impressed. Our dishes included the standard egg breakfast, scones, and the chicken pot pie. 5 stars for the lamb sausage! All of the dishes were very good.

They have a charming little café via one entrance, but don’t let the name confuse you; they offer a full brunch and dinner menu via the entrance to the right. I just got back from two weeks in Italy and the latte here is every bit as good as what I’ve had overseas. For brunch, I had amazing poached eggs in a healthy helping of tomato and lamb sauce. It’s the perfect hot meal for a cold winter day, and comes with a nice big stick of buttered bread — perfect for soaking up the extra sauce. Just be sure to come well-layered, as we found the sit-down area a bit drafty.

I’ve only been to the bakery and then to the restaurant for a quick drink, but this place is superb! Had a berry scone and it was perfectly baked — crispy on the outside and deliciously soft on the inside. The staff here are incredible, never had so much friendly vibes in the city. Had a beer at the restaurant and some spiced nuts — yum. They also own a venue across the street, making the block cooler one step at a time!

We had very little time to eat and went there almost just because of the name. It was really good, we had a soup and a salmon tart. The service was excellent and really quick. The décor is also very feel at home.

First time here since renovation. Wonderful atmosphere, very welcoming. Coffee is excellent and blueberry walnut muffin with home made jam and a nice cream cheese was delicious. If I lived in neighborhood I’d be here every day!

Fantastic meal last Friday. Host, Michael, made us feel right at home. Excellent selection of wines that didn’t break the bank. Meal was superb: chicken pot pie was«to die for.» Dan provided excellent service. We look forward to our next meal created by chef Alicia.

Came here for dinner the other night and the food was so good and fresh. The atmosphere is cozy and everyone who works there was really friendly. We also got Tarts from here for Thanksgiving and they were delicious! I highly recommend it. The coffee is also really good.

Soho/village charm with amazing food and atmosphere. If you’re lucky you’ll catch live piano music during brunch or dinner. Super friendly staff — you can tell everyone genuinely cares. I’ve been there several times and the quality of the food is unmatched. If you’re going for dinner be sure to save room for the peanut butter, chocolate and marshmallow tart! Oh my. Great food, great décor, great music, great people. This is authentic New York at its best.

My friend and I have been here 3 times in 5 days and will continue to return. Everyone there was kind, helpful, knowledgeable, interesting, and thoughtful in their interactions with us. As for the food, it is superb. We split the savory tart of the day and each had a cup of soup. The balance of flavors is done so well, it is one of the best places I have been to in some time. All of this is in light of the very reasonable prices for a delicious spot in SoHo. Thank you Once Upon A Tart.

Once Upon a Tart is my new favorite café in the city. The delicious coffee, local ingredients, quick service and charming atmosphere keep me coming back any weekend I can for breakfast or lunch. Last time there, I had Eggs on a Roll, Doug’s Chai and then ordered cookie to go. Great neighborhood spot that I’ll be back to often!
