Dr. Nevins and his staff took excellent care of me on every visit and made the transition for me to go from glasses to contacts easier then I ever thought possible
Dr. Nevins worked long and hard with me getting the best fit and type of contact lenses for my vision and never asked for additional charges beyond the initial fee
I would recommend them highly to anyone seeking eye care in NYC

All the optometrists at Metropolitan Vision whom I have been a patient of during the past 30+ years — that is not a typo, Dr. Nevins and I go back to the early 1980s, when I was a student at Cardozo Law School and used to see him at his former office — are excellent. This is certainly true of the optometrist I am currently being treated by, Dr. Behan: a conscientious and considerate doctor with a fine sense of humor. The staff who support these optometrists are uniformly competent and caring. Dr. Nevins has much to be proud for having founded, and then continuing to be a part of, this wonderful clinic.

My seven year old daughter had an infection in her eyes. This experience was nerve-​wrecking for me as a parent and I wanted to be sure she not only had a great doctor but also one that was good with kids and put her at ease.
We saw Dr. Arthur Jung who has such a great manner. He diagnosed her infection and immediately got us the proper treatment. He was a true professional and superb with kids. Thanks to him she’s treated and free of infection. I would highly recommend him to any parent and beyond!

So I am a bit phobic of going to the eye doctors. I always have a bad experience. When I went to Metropolitan Vision I actually had a good experience, making visiting the eye doctor a little less scary. I showed up on time, waited 5 minutes, maybe, and was seen by the doctor. I was in an out in about an hour, but I shopped for glasses, so this time may be less for you. The doctor (Dr. Jung) was able to calm my nerves and I got though the exam without freaking out. And they took pictures of the inside of my eye, that was pretty awesome. All of the rest of the staff, was present and helpful. They had a wide variety of frames to choose from. I would highly suggest going here.

After years of pressing eye issues I came here to see Dr. Behan, and I was really appreciative of all the time and attention he gave me in trying to get my difficult prescription right. My eyes had suddenly become very dry and my vision became a lot worse, so I opted for contacts for the first time in my life, which is always a long process. Dr. Behan very patiently listened to all of my concerns, talked me through multiple options, and gave me free trial contacts to test for a few weeks before coming back in… and when I did, he didn’t even charge me for the follow-​up. We had to try several different options before fine-​tuning exactly what I needed for my temperamental eyes, but it was worth all of the time, because I’m finally seeing the best I have in years. He’s just so nice and personable, explains everything down to the finest details, and once he even stayed with me past his working hours until I was satisfied with my visit. I really never write Unilocal reviews, but I felt compelled to after all those visits because of how great he was.

I strongly recommend reading all the reviews (not just positive) before making an appointment at this practice.
To keep things short, here are my issues with Metropolitan:
–Hold time to make an appointment exceeded 30 minutes (I hung up and called back, and was put on hold again).
–My appointment started 20 minutes late.
–Doctor misdiagnosed my problem (I was there for dry eye, he diagnosed conjunctivitis. A second opinion from another doctor confirmed it was dry eye.)
–Doctor prescribed a ridiculously expensive name brand eye drop, stating the generic wouldn’t work.
–Office charged me for a contact lens fitting that the doctor did not do (I was there for a medical visit). I ended up paying more than double what I was supposed to for a medical visit.
I will not be returning here, and I will discourage my friends and colleagues from doing the same. Bottom line: these people are unprofessional and are only trying to get as much money out of their patients as possible.

I’ve been a patient of Dr. Jung for a few years. His office is efficient and great at communication. My appointments always begin on time and I’m grateful for the email and text message appointment reminders sent by his office. I also appreciate how the staff has helped me make cost-​effective choices for contact lenses. I highly recommend Metropolitan Vision.

Dr. Jung is my favorite eye doc and I’m glad I found him. I arrived 10 minutes early and they saw me after 5 minutes.
Dr. Jung is very thorough and addressed all my concerns. On a personal level we had a discussion about reddit, cell phone screens being the new cigarettes of my generation and my parents who also see dr. Jung. This is the second year I’ve seen Jung for my yearly exam and despite there being cheaper alternatives like Costco, I truly prefer the attention and technology that his office offers.
Highly recommended A+++ doctor.

Full disclosure: I did not see the doctor, I never made it that far… The secretary was EXTREMELY RUDE on the phone, couldn’t get passed her to get an appointment. I assumed it was just a bad day and called back later… NOT THE CASE. While I am sure the doctors are wonderful I cannot tell you because I couldn’t get passed the secretary. She refused to retry to enter my insurance because «she couldn’t find me.» And offered NO help and showed NO ability to work with me. She obviously was incompetent because I decided to take my business elsewhere and they had no issues with the insurance information I gave them.

Dr. Arthur Jung is the best! He takes his time. He really explains everything in detail. My visit with him is never long. The office mails reminders to your home every time you are due for your next visit.
The only time I wait long is when I have to choose new frames. There is only one woman, I believe her name is Christina, that helps you with the frame process. She takes her time with each patient as well and really goes through the costs (what the insurance covers and what the patient pays out of pocket). She’s not pushy. She makes you feel comfortable and offers her opinion on which frames fit your profile and what’s trending this season. It feels like you are talking to your best friend at home in your bedroom. Also if they don’t have any frames you are interested in they will give you your perscription and you can go to another frame store.

The Doctors, especially Dr. Behan are great! But they lack in customer service and basic manners. The desk people act like they are doing you a favor. The eyeglass portion of the business is horrendous. They don’t know what they are doing and they are so «money hungry» that you feel you are negotiating your life away as you go over prices. My first year with them I complained to VSP because the glasses I ordered has a defect from day one and they blamed me. VSP agreed to give me a full refund by allowing me to go elsewhere and applying what I didn’t get back from Metropolitan. The 2^nd year I went back because of Dr. Behan and once again I was turned off by the lousy customer service (always mean and in a hurry). The 3^rd year they said, after accepting my appointment that my annual period wouldn’t kick in for a week and I would have to pay the full price. I didn’t re-​schedule and am hunting for a new eye doctor.

It pains me, but I have to drop down my rating for this office. It’s unfortunate because the doctor is great. But the office’s money gauging ways really take away from the experience.
Positives:
— Great doctors who will make sure you have the right prescription, even if you have to retest
— Convenient office hours with late appointments available several times a week (until 7pm or even a bit later)
— Decent eyeglass selection
Negatives:
— They bill both your VSP (or other vision insurance) and your medical insurance for each appointment, even if you’re just getting a regular annual check-​up and haven’t had any issues or changes in vision. And they don’t tell you anything up front, so you have no option to decline. Then you end up being surprised when you’re leaving the appointment and then again when they mail you an additional bill.
This means you will be paying the VSP co-​pay, the medical specialist co-​pay and whatever else they deem not included (refraction or contact lens fitting). In many cases, this can add up to $ 75 – 100, which is not a pleasant experience considering you’re already paying for your insurance premiums on both accounts and aren’t coming in because you have any medical eye problems. I recently paid $ 75 in the office and then received another bill for $ 145. After calling and complaining, they waived the fees for one of the tests I didn’t ask for ($ 105!), but I still ended up paying an additional $ 35. And this is all after they’ve gotten paid by both VSP and my medical insurance for the amounts that were covered. They billed my medical insurance alone $ 850 when I haven’t had any changes in my vision or prescription in 5 years.
— The woman who orders your glasses is not super knowledgeable. I’ve had much better experiences elsewhere. I had to get my glasses redone here once.
p. s. Buy your contacts online. Even the 1−800-Contacts price they match is higher than what you can get elsewhere. In fact, 1−800-Contacts will match any other website’s price + 2%. There are many websites like
where you can compare prices across multiple sites.

Dr. Goldstein and her staff are friendly, efficient, and helpful.
The office is conveniently located to most trains and easy to get to.
They use up-​to-​date technology and I have had minimal waiting times, when I have gone in after work.
Both pairs of glasses that I have ordered from them came in quickly — I just wish I was as quick in going to pick them up.

I had a great experience here. The staff was nice and attentive. They made sure I understood exactly what I was financially responsible for before the exam. I had an 11:30am appointment and was seen by the doctor within 10 minutes (including time to fill out new patient paperwork and all that.) The office was small but clean.
Dr. Jung was great. He definitely knew his stuff… I mentioned a condition that runs in my family and he was able to tell me about the latest treatment options, plus offer me a screening test to get a baseline.
I also loved that they weren’t pushing anything on me. I was free to order contacts or glasses from them, but there was no pressure. Dr. Jung was also sure to consider whether I wanted to pay for the additional screening since that wasn’t included in the financial rundown I got from the receptionist.
All in all, I will definitely be going back here as my primary eye doctor!

Conveniently located near University place and Union Square. The staff is amazing and always friendly where they made you feel at home. My eye exams were always a pleasant experience and handled with care and a smile.
Dr. Jung is smart, funny, knowledgable and always made you feel comfortable. When you are there, he made you feel like family.
The place is always clean and the appointments are always on time with minimal wait. And who knows when you’ll see a movie star and singer.

Dr. Behan is one of the few honest doctors left. I went to another eye doctor to get approved for Lasik and I was instantly approved after some yellow drops and after the doctors assistant rushed through what eye prescription I should have for my permanent vision. I the other doctor how could I be approved because he never asked me what my last perception was to see if my eyes changes in the last few years. The other doctor claimed that by using the yellow drops you could tell. Keep in mind this other doctor has all positive Unilocal reviews. But I know that this surgery doesn’t always have immediate side effects so I went for a second opinion to Dr. Behan.
Things that are great about Dr. Behan:
1.) he is very detailed and always double checks everything. For example if he says which one is more clear #1 or #2. He doesn’t try and rush you. The figures out a better solution if you think they are both the same.
2.) he is honest
3.) he really does care about your eyes. He even wears glasses compared to contacts or LASIK!
I have had the best prescriptions from him that are the most accurate. You won’t have to go back and get another appointment to try again. He gets it right on the first time.
Ps: I was denied LASIK because my vision changed too much.
Only bad this is the office is out dated. I would rather have good vision and good health.

I’m done with this place. I keep walking out of here feeling like I’ve been ripped off and that is not how one should feel leaving a doctors office. I’ve been charged for contact refittings I never asked for and unnecessary procedures that I only found out after the fact are extra. They need to be upfront about costs and when things stop being included in a regular checkup. Let me decide if I want to pay that money, don’t force it on me. And yes, they will quote you an exorbitant price for contacts and only if you mention the price you can get on 1−800-contacts will they match that. The unfortunate people who don’t know any better are getting robbed for sure. Time to find a new eye doctor who doesn’t just feign caring about me in order to bleed my wallet dry.

I’ve been going to Metropolitan Vision for about two years, seeing Dr. Behan.
I’ve had a great experience because Dr. Behan remembers exactly who I am and what my issues are. He is very knowledgeable, upfront and conscious of patient costs. I definitely trust his opinion. Also, getting appointments is easy and the office is well organized.

I don’t give out one star’s lightly. But this place deserves it.
The optometrist I dealt with was fine for the most part, seemed knowledgeable could answer questions etc. Only fault I could call out would be an absence of personality, and making you wait long after your scheduled appt time. I don’t understand why you set a time and then don’t see someone until 30 – 45 minutes after. But I guess I’ve experience that at other optometrists so maybe that’s just their MO.
The front office staff on the other hand are categorically awful. They always seem to be harried and extremely short with me. I’m not a sensitive person and, in fact, I rather respect directness in people. But christ you need a Kitchen Nightmares style intervention here.
As other people have pointed out, they seem to be extracting the most money possible out of you. I have vision insurance and medical through my employer. I checked VSOP’s website and they are a preferred provider, which should cover an annual check up and contacts/​frames etc. In spite of that, they still billed my medical (BCBS) for each visit. Even more frustrating is that I go for my check ups in the beginning of the year, so I’m paying out of pocket each time to cover my deductible.
On top of that when I went to order contacts through them the price they initially quoted was crazy expensive. After I balked they reversed and said they could match 1 – 800 contact’s price. That’s nice you do that, but why not just offer that upfront? I’d expect that behavior from a used car salesman, not from a healthcare provider.
Final note, I’ve been trying to get them to email me a receipt for my last bill and after calling twice they still haven’t done so. I know they have my email address on file because I gave it to them and they’ve sent me emails in the past. So I have no idea what the hold up is. The best part is if you try to call them when they’re busy, they’ll play this awesome game where they put you on hold, a new person picks up only to put you on hold again, and they repeat this process until you’ve lost all grip on reality.
Please, do not be like me and choose an optometrist based on geographic convenience, go some place that gives a sh*t. There are plenty of other great options in the city. You deserve better.

My doc was ok but they billed both my medical and vision insurance for simple eye exam. I was there to just check my vision.
My co-​pay for vision was $ 20 and co-​pay for medical specialist was $ 40. The doc was not even MD. He was just OD but they charged me for specialist co-​pay.
so i had to pay $ 60 just in co-​pay and they scammed my medical insurance a bill of more than $ 300+.
Not going back ever!
