Looks Nails and Spa

For prices and speed, I prefer Colorful Nails over on 8^th Street, However, Looks often wins out for the sheer fact that they’re open an hour later every night until 10pm, and they don’t balk at staying past 10 to help meet all your needs if you happen to be a last-​minute arrival.
The ladies here are very friendly, and they have the impressive knack for remembering you (and often your go-​to color as well) even if you go months without visiting,
My one complaint is their tendency to aggressively up-​sell their services when you just come in for a quick manicure. The majority of the time I manage to resist, but sometime cave to the pressure of getting pushed into the 10 minute massage while nails are drying. In which case my aching shoulders thank me, but my wallet does not.

Here lies a major lesson for me:
When I am in desperate need of a manicure,
WAIT until I can get to my regular nail spa,
and/​or DEFINITELY DON’T GO to an unknown nail spa, which has almost always turned out to be a disaster!
Due to convenience, I walked into LOOKS NAILS and SPA on Sixth Ave. I chose a sheer pink nail polish color that I always use; this polish was discolored (must have been sitting in this almost empty bottle for ages), and that should have been my first sign to walk out. It went from bad to worse. After she removed the polish, there was a film on every nail. I asked her to please re-​do it. Filing was awful. She paid no attention to any detail. I felt as though the manicurist had no experience and had no idea what she was doing. She certainly knew how to try to sell me a special manicure and a massage, of which I said NO to everything. Polish was already cracking at cuticle line as it was drying. ONE BIG DISAPPOINTMENT! Do I have high standards? I certainly do, but this was sub-​par, which is why I will never return here, even if in desperate need. I have FINALLY learned my lesson!

First time here and I’ll definitely come back. Gel mani and regular pedi is 45 and callus adder is $ 10. Have opi and shellac gel colors, good selection, nice chairs and will do same time which is important in Nyc

go to spot every week. The girls are AMAZING and the service is INCREDIBLE. I always walk out happy and relaxed. :)

Not a fan. I knew it was going to be let down from the reviews… but I was in the area and in a rush, I just went in for a mani pedi anyway. Came in around 5pm on Sat– there was no wait. I got someone right away to do the toes and hands. This was standard experience as far as service, facilities, goes… I did hear a few other techs aggressively (über aggressively) upselling to others various services. I get that that is customary in these type of places, but like it’s been said — this was particularly bad. My girl was actually really nice, one of the better ones, very cordial. upsold but not too much. But, the reason why this is a two star is because my mani was truly horrible:
— She cut my pinky cuticle big time. Like such a big gash it’s still visible a whole day later … not a good look.
–The mani was awful; polish was so thickly laid on and rough around the edges it was worse than what I could have done myself and that’s not saying a lot. Also chipping began immediately the next day.
–My pedi however, was fine enough.
The mani was really, really bad. I still have a great tip — think it was $ 28 pre tip, plus quick dry.

Once again, the ladies of Looks have blessed me with a good time and gorgeous paws & claws. I have nothing bad to say about this business and I never have. It’s always clean, you can always witness the wonderful women cleaning in action during various times of the day. Everybody is polite and accommodating, I feel special each time I come here. It’ll be sad to leave this place behind for salons in Austin, hahaha. I’ll miss Looks and everything that it’s offered me over the past few years.
Being more specific, my bestie and I had organic spa pedicures which includes some aromatherapy, exfoliation, heated treatments, paraffin dips, massages and of course, the simple but beautiful swipe of polish on your toes. It was my second time receiving that service and I have no complaints. The paraffin is a tad hot but that’s expected though. If you have the time and the cash ($ 60), grab a girlfriend and get a spa pedicure. You won’t be disappointed. Every person on the planet deserves this type of awesomeness at least once in their lifetime.
Don’t hesitate to head over to Looks today. They’ll make you feel special, treat you like a Queen and that feeling will last all day, which is hard living in a city like NYC. My only suggestion to the salon would be to up the ante a little bit and add in complimentary beverages like tea, coffee, water and a simple fizzy juice drink to all their clients just to add a little extra to the experience. A girl could thirsty with all the beautification. No alcohol, too complicated. Other than that, Looks Nail and Spa is a sanctuary of greatness. I’ll miss these ladies.

Actually was heading to another salon and the cab let us out here, decided to give it a try. Cute little place and the ladies are super friendly. While I agree they are very good at the up-​sale, and encourage an upgrade. But hey that’s what they are trained to do. They didn’t push, however I decided to get the lavender spa pedicure. Very nice. Ask for Nira, she was super detailed in getting my feet smooth and pretty

This is my go-​to spot. It’s not outstanding, but it’s inexpensive and fits the bill. My manicure is consistently good, and the techs are very friendly.
The only thing I don’t like — they aggressively upsell, and it can get uncomfortable. I know what they’re trying to do but it’s more aggressive than at most places I frequent. I’d prefer to relax more while getting my nails done.

I love Looks! I go monthly and always have a positive experience. All the girls are warm, friendly and meticulous when it comes to nail care. My pedicure experience is always perfect, and the 10 minute foot massage is worth the $ 12! I always get a gel manicure, and it lasts for 2 weeks minimum always– great investment and look!!!
I am very picky about my eyebrows and the girls are attentive to detail. I get my eyebrows threaded and tinted. Most recently I got my eyelashes tinted as well and they look beautiful.
I received my first brazillian with them during my last visit, and it was done quickly and carefully. For a procedure that can be very painful, this was minimally painful and well done.
Looks is very clean, the girls and respectful and it is my favorite place for nails and eyebrows in NYC. Thank you looks!

I want to give their manicures 4 stars, and their threading services 2 stars. I came here and my eyebrows were obviously uneven. I told the woman, and she immediately started talking to her colleagues in another language and basically denying what I said. If I think my eyebrows are uneven, discuss it with me– not your colleagues, and not in another language (they all speak fine English, it was not a translation issue). Then after denying, I went to another customer and asked them if my eyebrows were uneven, and the other customer said «yes». They ended up fixing them, but I was still frustrated with this experience.

This place was a spur of the moment decision for myself and a friend. We figured eh why not we need to relax. We both received the organic pedicure, which was amazing! I have been to many nail salons and the service here was great! Not to mention the massage part of the pedicure had me buying another 30 minutes! The place is clean and well kept, the staff is very friendly. This place will for sure be my go to place when I need some light pampering!

While window shopping different nail salons in the area, I decided to give this place a chance because from the outside it just seemed warm and welcoming. Initially, I walked in with the intentions of having a mani, and I walked out out feeling like a brand new woman!
I had my eyebrows threaded and colored (awesome job!) And also (for the first time) had a color gel manicure. My manicure held up for a solid 2 weeks. I was very happy with the service and since then I have been a loyal customer. The workers here are very nice, and I like the fact that the boss shows an interest in customer satisfaction and is welcoming. I will update my review at a later date and provide specific names.
Overall the services are always on the money and this place will not break your pockets. I have been to high end nail salon and spas before which I feel are often overrated. This place is just perfect for me. They do a great job, services are not overpriced, and your satisfaction is their concern.

This is such a great place! I’ve had gel manis and regular pedis here many times, and the women here are always meticulous in their work as well as very friendly. Yes, they will ask you if you want to add on special mani/​pedi packages or shoulder massages, but if you politely decline, they won’t push you. Also, if you say no and they decide to give you a shoulder massage anyway, they won’t charge you for it.
I’ve also had brazilian waxes here on occasion, and they always do a thorough job with minimal pain.
A great perk at this place is you can literally walk in at 9:59 pm any day of the week and they will gladly provide you with service. I’ve been here until nearly midnight before! If you live in the area, definitely give this place a try :)

This place was awful!
Just wanted to get a simple mani pedi with a friend and they kept pushing add ons onto us. They must have asked if we wanted a 10 minute massage like 5 times, and when we kept saying no they started very clearly talking to each other about us.
The manicure was quick and sloppy, she got polish on cuticles (and didn’t clean it up)!
But worst of all was that there must be something unsanitary about their tools/​instruments because there was nothing wrong with my feet before but later when I was looking at my big toe I noticed that it had gotten infected!!!

I’m so sad. I went in yesterday hoping for the $ 24.99 or $ 29.99 deal they had posted on their door but my nail artist convinced me to get the $ 60 deal bc I needed calluous removed and said she’d throw in a free manicure w that so I gave in. I ended up getting a really bad reaction to the calluous removal lotion. I was quite upset. The people were all very nice and apologetic however I tried to get $ 20 back (bc I ended up paying $ 70 w tip) bc they were not offering me anything except another free manicure the next time I come but $ 20 would have given me a peace of mind and a little cash back to get medicine. They would have still profited $ 40 w giving me $ 20 and my original plan was just to spend 25 – 30 dollars when I walked in. They wouldn’t do it. This is my foot today. It’s painful :(posted a pic.

First timer’s review on eyebrow threading service by Ruma.
Let me tell you… Ruma is fantastic. She listens, suggests and produces flawless results. After threading, she also gave complimentary facial massage which was wonderful. Initially, I went to just clean my eyebrow area but Ruma suggested that she reshapes my brows with more arch. I’ve gotten a few compliments on my eyebrows — thanks to Ruma!

One day at work (today, actually), I looked in the mirror and gasped, «DO I NOT HAVE FRIENDS!?!» My eyebrows looked HId-​e-​ous!
I found a place on Unilocal,mentioned it to y boss as I was racing out to go to the place and grab lunch, and she was adamant that I try Looks for threading! Thank goodness I listened, because I’m super satisfied with the job and the service by Ruma. It wasn’t painful, and she was kind enough to *thoroughly* clean the mascara around my eyes from holding the top and bottom parts of my brows.
Also, I paid $ 10 + tip here. I usually pay $ 6 + tip in Indian Square in JC, but I’m okay with it, I guess, considering the location and convenience. I literally just walked in and was helped right away. Of course, I was also coming in mid-​day, while normal people are working.
I seriously look like I got a facelift. Major. I love it, thank the eyebrow gods for Ruma!

This place is awesome for hennahs. I only come here! It’s around 10 – 15 dollars for a hand design. The hennah stays around 10 days.

This place is horrible.
The nail tech cut me with a nail file! I didn’t even know that was possible!
On top of that, the paint job was horrible. Gel mani literally looked like hills and valleys. I just looked at my nails and the tech asked me if she should redo them… uh yes!!! So she did and they got mildly better but still unacceptable for any nail place in NYC.
The place itself wasn’t «beautiful» like other reviewers mentioned.
I would guess a lot of the reviews before me are fake, especially those coming from accounts with a small number of reviews.
And my gel mani took 1 hr and 25 minutes! Not exaggerating.
Save yourself the trouble and don’t go here.

I was going to the original location of Looks over on the 14^th St close to 1^st or 2^nd Ave close to 8 years ago now. I went in one summer day and the owner and I fell in eyebrow love with each other and became great friends. I would let no one touch my shapely brows but Jyoti. When I made the move to Jersey, I begged Jyoti to open up a location in Jersey City since getting that far east every two weeks would be hard, but alas she has expanded her empire in NYC only.
I happened along this place walking to the PATH train from my office. Looks… hmmmm, is this Jyoti? I went in and sure enough I knew it was her store. Although she wasn’t at this one, I chatted with the lady who does threading and I decided to give it a whirl. She’s no Jyoti, but she does do a stand up and thorough job. What I really love is that this is her job. She doesn’t do nails as well, she’s always manning the threading station, meaning it’s consistent. Eyebrows are important and I don’t just want a different person every time touching and shaping them, so I really appreciate and value that it’s always her. After 5 or 6 experiences, I can publicly Unilocal claim that I’m a fan and I think they do a great job.
$ 8 for a great threading job and do make sure to grab a customer loyalty card!
Can’t speak of mani’s or pedi’s since I have yet to try one here.
