Don’t pass up this street meat because it’s truly the real deal… yumminess all around… plus super-duper friendly service! As for their food, it’s very tasty! In fact, their meats are cooked to near perfection – tender and seasoned just right. And, even though, typically, I’m not a big fan of cinnamon in savory foods, the hint of cinnamon in their chicken is really tasty. I typically get the combo rice & meat platter when I visit this cart; it’s chicken & lamb w/rice and a salad. You cannot go wrong with this combo! Tasty, tasty, tasty! However, don’t forget to add plenty of white sauce and hot sauce(it’s not that hot); these really add to the overall deliciousness! The prices at Halal Cart are as you’d expect – cheap! A chicken/rice platter is just $ 5 and definitely enough to fill you up! The combo runs a dollar more, but, to me, it’s worth it.

Don’t waste your time with anything else, jut order the chicken and rice. Make sure you get a good mix of red and white sauce. Ask for the pita bread as there are occasions they forget.

The lamb gyro here is solid but it’s no 53rd and 6th Halal, although it’s still a great value in Soho. The rice platter comes with plenty of lamb, lettuce, and white sauce, with the option of additional hot sauce, and will cost you $ 6. Portions are decent but not huge. It’s good street food but not really outstanding. Ask for extra sauce since the meat can be a tiny bit on the dry side.

We came here around 1am for our late night dinner. We got the chicken & rice. The chicken is tasty & flavorful but a bit too dry. The white sauce & hot sauce were decent. Portion is smaller than most halal cart out there. Friendly service! $ 5 for a chicken & rice

By far the best lamb gyro I have ever tasted INMYLIFE! There’s just something about the way they do it here compared to other halal carts around the city. The guy working the cart during the day isn’t very friendly, but if you visit after 11PM, the guy who works this shift is a lot more warm. Regardless, they both make the food the same, and it tastes good at any time of the day. One of the best things about eating here at night and during the winter is that there is an ATM hub right in front of the cart next to Uniqlo that I usually nest myself in while I enjoy my food in peace. This cart is the one!

Halal food is never bad, but this is not one of the better carts in NYC. The rice is not that flavorful and the chicken is decent, but not great.

Honestly, the first time I tasted Halal food I thought it was ok.(Possibly because of overhype) Meh, whatever. But then I start craving it. and craving it. and SERIOUSLYCRAVINGIT. I mean, how can you not? On every block, there’s at least one freaking Halal cart with it’s super distinct and delicious aroma. And it just keeps hitting you, bam, bam, bam, block by block, until you cave to your cravings. For 5 bucks, you get a whole lotta seasoned rice with chop up grill chicken on top, a side of lettuce and 2 slices of tomato with DELICIOUS white sauce all over(extra for me please!) and top that off with some hot sauce. Plenty of food to satisfy 2 people or bloat up 1 person. Oh yeah, there’s definitely crack in that white sauce.

I HEART food trucks especially the ones in New York. You can’t miss them they are almost at every corner of every block. My boyfriend has been telling me how good it taste especially on a late night out. I decided to go there after shopping in SoHo and wanted something cheap and delicious this hit the spot. I ordered the chicken and rice with red and little bit of the white sauce. It was the best $ 4 ever spent. Its funny on their menu its listed as $ 4.99 but they usually only charge $ 4. I prefer the chicken over the lamb thought it was a tab bit dry. It comes wit salad too so you get a little fiber in your diet. Must try these FINE Halal carts when you are in the big apple Can’t go wrong.

As a local to this area, I’m obligated to review this cart as I’ve eaten here many times… Disclaimer, except for Calexico, I don’t give carts more than 4 stars so take my 3 still as a recommendation to buy. You’ll find me here if it’s past 1 am and I took a subway home rather than a cab and need eats. There’s not much cheap eats in this hood after 12. Pitas are always soft and fresh which are key for me and peeve if they are not at other spots. I’m usually getting the chicken/lamb and rice plate with hot sauce… fully satisfying, and not that much damaging in the morning.

Why do we not have these in San Francisco??? It is so unfair. Seriously, every metropolitan city I’ve ever been to has street food, historically/culturally/fundamentally characteristic to their city. In London, I have toasted chestnuts. In Paris, sucre crepes. In Hong Kong, curry fish balls on a stick. And, in NY, Gyros. I ate Gyros all week in NY(had to subsidize my stay at the Hudson, after all) and can I just say, YUM. Let me amend. YUMYUM. I could live on these things. Cheap, fresh, tasty and fast. Don’t find those qualities often in the Big Apple.

I’ve been wanting to eat some street food since I got here. Walking through all the different neighborhoods is fun but maddening because there’s always a meat cart cooking up some food. The halal carts cooking up delicious Middle Eastern fare are generally the best because they sell lamb gyros, and that’s what I was craving the most. I ended up in SoHo this morning because my friends wanted to go to Uniqlo for a designer opening or something, and there was a line to get into the store so we had to wait. I hadn’t eaten breakfast yet, but I needed some water, so I walked up to the halal cart down the block. As I got closer, the smells began to engulf my olfactory nerves, and I immediately got a craving. It was time for breakfast! I ordered a lamb gyro with lettuce, tomato, the white sauce, a little hot sauce, and it came on a thick grilled pita. One bite, and I was hooked. Lamb gyros are great under most circumstances, but I can’t think of anything better when it comes to street food… and this includes bacon-wrapped hot dogs. Excellent street food… it’s another reason I love New York.
