Such a shame that the dessert truck is no longer around. I bet that the owners are out doing bigger and more amazing things now, probably opening even more businesses. Their crème brûlée was amazing, my absolute favorite. It was so creamy and delicious that it actually bought a tear to my eye once. True story

In years past, I could always count on the DessertTruck to satisfy my post-meal cravings for something delicious and on the go. I haven’t seen the truck for awhile now, as I’ve received wind it’s no longer in operation. As it turns out, the truck was«retired» in favor for a permanent location by its owners and the business is now called«Cathcart & Reddy.» At least not all is lost. I will miss the random $ 5 seasonal desserts, the molten chocolate cake and crème brûlée. I’ll miss chatting it up with Jerome, one of the co-founders, who was as friendly as he was a skilled chef. I will miss the quiet winter nights when the lines were gone and I’ll even miss it when the truck was poppin, and getting a dessert involved waiting for 20 minutes. I’ll miss tweeting about it whenever I had checked in on mobile. I’ll miss my desserts being served a la mode. It was always a fun to skip an overpriced dessert at an establishment and walk off the calories while indulging in something sweet and fun in cup form. In some instances, the desserts were as decadent and served in a similar portion as nearby places, and usually better executed. Sounds like a visit to Cathcart & Reddy in the LES is in order.

I love this dessert truck so much that I am willing to BATTLETHEELEMENTS to get it! One time, my friend and I came in what was basically the middle of a storm to get the nutella filled brioche donuts. They are THAT good! Warm, chewy, sugary, and best of all, filled with lots of nutella. SODELICIOUS. The guy working there even gave us an extra one for the road since I don’t think many other people were wandering around in the middle of a rainstorm haha. I really also want to try the chocolate bread pudding!

I had a couple of items here. Everything was done pretty well. I think I’m more of a fan of desserts that are lighter and more subtle rather than those than really weigh you down and hit you with sweetness. That being said, the warm chocolate bread pudding, the warm molten chocolate cake, and the brioche donut squares with Nutella are done fairly well. They’re very very sweet though, and the chocolate and Nutella has a way of coating the entire inside of your mouth, which for some may be awesome, but not really for me. I had some innovative desserts awhile back, I think it was bread pudding with bacon, which actually was kind of cool too. Not a bad place to go if you want a sugar high.

Their chocolate bread pudding with bacon crème may have been on throwdown, but personally, it’s nothing to go nuts about. I mean, it was good, but it’s not something I’d crave or order again. Warm, gooey chocolate bread pudding topped with a slightly bacon-y crème anglaise could definitely hit the spot if you’re craving it, but other than that, nothing TOO special. ALSO, the portions are a little on the small for the price(6 bones for all desserts). But hey, what food trucks are cheap these days?

the moment we saw the pictures & signs on the truck… WINNERSOFBOBBYFLAY’S THROWDOWN… we were roped into trying the dish responsible for their claim to fame! — – WARMCHOCOLATEBREADPUDDING w/BACON CREMEANGLAISE(you can opt for vanilla anglaise but the bacon one is the throwdown champ) 3.5STARS! the bacon flavor paired NICELY w/the chocolate. but i like my bread puddings to have a crusty top(which i guess i can’t expect from a truck) if you catch ‘em on the street on a day they’re catering an event, you might be lucky & have off-the-menu items as options too! ALLDESSERTS $ 6: it’s a bit pricey for the small portions, but gourmet truck food was never cheap in california. so i don’t expect it here either!

The other night, it was my 5th time hitting up the DessertTruck. That night, I picked up my favorite goat cheese cheesecake — YUM! It’s creamy, light and OHSOOO good! I’ve also had their Vanilla Crème Brulee, Molten Chocolate Cake, and Broiche Donut Squares — ALL absolutely delicious! Yes, it may be $ 6, but in my opinion, based on the quality, totally worth it! I want to try the other items on the menu, but it’s so hard to NOT get any of the four desserts I’ve mentioned, since I know how absolutely amazing they are. LOVE the DessertTruck!

Me: Can I get the molten cake, bread pudding and the donuts? Guy: You want vanilla or bacon cream on the cake? Me: Vanilla and what? Pecan? Guy: Bacon cream Me: Bacon??? Guy: Yes, YOUWANTTHEBACON! *deciding for me* 5 minutes later… Me: OMGGGGGG!!! It’s like… it’s like… oh…my…GAWWWDDDDD…*orgasmic face*(this is after tasting the molten cake… and the bread pudding!) The donuts paled in comparison! :/ Enough said? :) Tip-bits: Located by the NY Film Academy Café Make sure you tell the guy if you want to eat it right away or «to-go» Cash only Small menu but totally worth it.

We had a bit of a hike via subway, so the Truck staffers thoughtfully packaged our desserts for the trip, along with instructions about reheating(right on the money). Even after the ignominy of train plus microwave, our treats were moan-inducing. Chocolate bread pudding is perfectly paired with the crème anglaise – I think this bacon nonsense is a PR gesture, sorry. And the brioche donuts(there are 2! and they’re big!) were delightfully airy and flavorful on their own, even before taking into account the dollop of Nutella inside. Six bucks apiece: restaurant-quality desserts at half the price!

I dropped by The Dessert Truck after dinner with my friend, Phoebe. YUM. The Dessert Truck is a truck(duh) conveniently located next to St. Mark’s and has a consistent menu including bread pudding, crème brulee, and molten chocolate lava cake. Everything is made FRESH and while there is a bit of a wait, your dessert comes out hot from the oven! The desserts are $ 6 — a little pricey, but for the quality, it is completely fair. I ordered the lava cake and Phoebe had the vanilla crème brulee. He packaged it us to-go and after a 20 minute walk home, our desserts were still warm and fresh! My lava cake came with a side of vanilla ice cream which turned out to be quite necessary as a complement because that cake was RICH and decadent. But wow, was it delicious. Even for someone with a huge sweet tooth like myself, I found it hard to eat too much! I had to save half for the next day. Phoebe’s crème brulee was silky and smooth — MMM. Again, very rich!

Why eat street meat when you can eat street sweets? A brilliant idea to serve restaurant quality desserts without having to actually buy a full course restaurant meal. Let your inner fat girl out and indulge… I mean it’s actually not so bad if it’s the only thing you eat that day! Chocolate Bread Pudding with Bacon Crème Anglaise: More like pudding and less like bread! This warm gooey hot mess will warm your bones and tickle your sweet tooth on a crisp evening. The crème Anglaise adds a very creamy element to contrast the chocolaty indulgence. I got the bacon variety which isn’t overpowering and not gross at all. It adds a slightly smoky and umami complexity.

Basicallyyyyyy the chocolate bread pudding with either vanilla OR bacon custard is out of this world. It is super rich though, so even though it’s not a big portion, I wouldn’t recommend eating the entire thing by yourself in one sitting… but it’s so hard to stop… I’ve always dreamed of bringing a vegetarian friend here and making him/her have the bacon custard without telling him/her it’s BACON custard, and then laughing maniacally and telling them I just single-handedly ruined everything they stand for. PS choc bread pudding tastes amaze with vanilla ice cream yeeee :)

2.5 Stars I was slightly disappointed, maybe I hyped myself up too much. Perhaps the disappearance of this truck for about a year built up my anticipation. Where’s the bacon? Where’s my bacon crème anglaise? I asked all my friends, we all tasted it and could barely taste the bacon flavor. The crème brûlée was good despite missing the bacon flavor. I only tasted a hint of the bacon, but the chocolate bread pudding was too sweet and only meh. If I’m paying $ 6 for this, there’d better be some crispy bacon in there. We ended up throwing them out. Too sweet! I’m sure a bum appreciated picking them out of the nearby trash and finding a sweet treat. I’m going to Ronnie Sue’s for my chocolate bacon sweet & savory fix.

Bummed that we weren’t able to try Dessert Truck Works after our meal at Clinton St. Bakery Co. because they were closed at the time, we were shocked to see the Dessert Truck parked in the East Village during a nightly stroll through that neighborhood. My lady was still full from dinner, but I had to take this opportunity to indulge in the famous chocolate bread pudding($ 6). Of course with the bacon custard sauce. I had the small cup in my hand and took a huge spoonful of the dessert I had waited so long for. Suffice to say, I was a bit disappointed. Usually, bread pudding has a firmer texture but it felt like a warm, runny pudding. Not sure if it’s supposed to be that way. The flavors were phenomenal though. There was an explosion of chocolate and the custard sauce had a hint of bacon. For this first time, I was let down. But I’m willing to give it another try whenever I come back to NY.

Oh my tastiness! Warm, gooey desserts ready in 15 sec for the price of a decadent hot dog? Um… Yes, please! The crème brûlée is all torched and vanilla bean-y goodness, thick and creamy and everything wonderful. The chocolate bread pudding(and I normally hate bread pudding) is like a warm chocolate cake smothered in glorious vanilla cream that tastes like sin and heaven all in one. DessertTruck, how can I convince you to come to Boston? Do you do across-the-state delivery?

I was with my mom looking for the desserttruck. We searched from the car. Finally I found it. I got crème brûlée and chocolate bread pudding. She asks in disbelief whether I just paid $ 6 for some pudding. Its not pudding. Its Crème Brulee… and some good Crème Brulee at that. I told her there was bacon in the chocolate pudding. I will take the other one then, she remarked. So, I was like, this chick just deaded me on my crème brûlée, after telling me she wanted pudding. But she’s my mom, and well when I was little I once actually got kidnapped and she located and found me. Like I couldn’t not give her the crème brûlée. So she ate the crème brûlée and loved it. Now she needs help. She is addicted to crème brûlée from the desserttruck. She calls me about it. She texts. Crème Brulee from the desserttruck got my mom to learn to text when i stopped answering calls. I am not sure what to do now. Thank god she doesn’t know exactly where the truck is. Im scared that she will be inspired to join Unilocal and then possibly friend me on facebook or something. Then she found out the store is near her house. I fear she is spending her meager income on this stuff. I pray it does not destroy our family. I am not sure what to do. Join a group perhaps. If she sells the TV, I will take a flame to that place. I started this review with the best intentions, but thanks to the desserttruck I realize that I have to keep my mother ignorant. To save her. Now she is texting. Eating Crème Brulee. What the hell is this world coming to. Boycott the desserttruck. Save your family. Do not take your parents there. Say NO to Crème Brulee! Deserttruck, I hate you. You and your crème brûlée eating women. I walked by one earlier this week, looked her in her eyes, shook my head and said«I guess that’s how you were raised.»

My friend spotted the Dessert Truck from half a block away. I love desserts so even though I had only literally finished my dinner of ramen five minutes before, I had to have something off of that truck. I loveeee bread pudding and then I saw that it had been on the Throwdown with Bobby Flay and this chocolate bread pudding beat his. Must try! When we got it, the portion was smaller than I thought it would be and although tasty, I can’t say that it’s the best bread pudding I’ve had. The concept of desserts off the truck was super cute though. My friend ordered the brioche donut squares filled with nutella. Although good, it tasted just like a sugar donut filled with nutella. Everything on the menu for desserts was $ 6. When I went, there was no wait at all and it was around 8pm at night.

The only way we found this truck was by following them on twitter. After seeing the Throw-down with Bobby Flay, it was a must to get dessert here after dinner. We ordered the warm molten chocolate cake with vanilla ice cream and the warm brioche donut holes with nutella inside. ohhhhhhhhh yum! talking about it is making me hungry right now. We were kind of disappointed that they ran out of the warm chocolate bread pudding. The results of the donut? OHHH soo good as the nutella was melted in the center. The cake– Yum was perfect, not to sweet but thick. Most of their dessert items were $ 6.00 but totally worth it! I wish we had dessert trucks like this in the bay.

1 star for the chocolate bread pudding. Mmmmm, creamy, naughty delightfulness… dessert after my «dinner» of $ 8 worth of 16 Handles.(Judgment-free zone. No comments.) 1 star for the delicious vanilla custard, 1 more for the worker’s willingness to overlook my drunken, fro-yo-stuffed indecisiveness, and 1 more for him giving me both vanilla and bacon custard. But um… –1 star for the suckiness of the bacon custard. How can this be?!? HOW can I not be enjoying something that is both bacon and cream flavored?! En fin, it was delicious and I enjoyed myself but I was very baffled by the bacon mishap. Will have to try again.

A bougie dessert spot trying to be a little hood by putting itself in a little taco truck? I’m wit it. I split the crème brûlée with one of my wonderful NY galpals and we both really liked it a lot. The top was perfectly brulee-ed(that could be wrong) and the cool, creamy inside was a great compliment to the crispy top. It made me feel hood, it made me feel bougie, viva DessertTruck.
