Purchased produce here only to take it home and realize it was entirely rotten. Additionally, purchased a tub of cottage cheese, and upon taking home, lifted the lid to realize it had been opened. Had to dispose of several items I purchased. I don’t mind spending the money, but I expect my items to be in good shape for that price. I recommend heading elsewhere such as West Side Market or Whole Foods.

This isn’t our home turf and we hadn’t been into this Gourmet Garage for some time, but it hadn’t changed! It is a crowded, odd-shaped store, but they do pack in a lot of merchandise, including fresh breads, fruits and vegetables, a prepared food section, cheeses, and small fresh meat and fish counters in addition to aisles of dry goods. Unfortunately, trying to fit so much into so small a space the aisles are crowded and difficult to navigate, particularly when they’re stocking and/or there are any number of other shoppers. The storefront is accessible.

This place is the biggest rip off in the village. I spent $ 50, on a bag of grapes, one cucumber, a punnet of tomatoes, gingerale and a block of chocolate. Re-read that sentence. $ 50 on virtually nothing. Was fuming when got to the checkout, the check out chick was incredibly rude & their prices are ridiculous at best! Avoid this like the plague unless you enjoy spending tons of cash, for poor quality ingredients. Never again! If I could give negative stars I would. Don’t fall into this trap. There is a grocery store across the road go there, or look for a duane read or cvs!

Food and produce are usually very good and fresh. This place is expensive. Way overpriced for what it is. Go in for soup often as they have a nice selection. I frequently have the turkey chili. Today I got home and couldn’t even eat it as it was incredibly spicy! Once I got back to work and the soup was ice cold! Lesson: taste soup before you buy it!

Very clean, well lit, and extremely well stocked with exotic fruits and vegetables. They had loads of fruits from Southeast Asia that looked and tasted like they were picked yesterday. Prices are steep here, right on par with the highest I’ve seen in the city. That Bering said. If you want to warm up before jumping on, the 1 at Christopher street, this place is a happy distraction.

Vanessa is always very helpful and friendly. She aims to to please. So too are all staff at gourmet garage. Food choices are excellent with all staff eager to please. No spur pusses. Shop most days for lunch. Feels like neighborhood I grew up in New England. Yay! For GG

Well, I go here every morning for their amazing bagels. Miss Lilly is my morning sunshine — the service is awesome! Also shop here for staples on a regular basis and love them!

LOVE the Garage! Has the best produce and I love their vegan sushi options. Yes, it is pricey, but it is worth it. Hands down! Mamacita is the best. LOVEGOURMETGARAGE!!!

I used to buy all my groceries here. The prepared food is good(sushi, to-go pastas, soups, etc.), but the«fresh» fruit and vegetables are seriously lacking. On too many occasions I got home only to realize they were moldy. Even some of the packaged food(nuts) has been stale! If you hate returning groceries, I recommend going elsewhere.

If you’re looking for regular groceries this is not the place to go. They have amazing stuff, including the most intense selection of cheeses. If you’re looking for gourmet specialty stuff come here, or over to citarella. Their seafood is super fresh as well as their produce. Love the selection of juices and fresh breads they offer. I do have one complaint, a couple of days before thanksgiving my mom bought a pumpkin pie, and in thanksgiving it had mold on it. Luckily they let us exchange it, but it worries me that it had mold so soon.

About a year ago i had the most amazing Turkey Chili ever! Well that must’ve been a special day because I tried it again last night and it tasted horrible! I was so sad and disappointed because I was really looking forward to it. A cold, crisp night and something warm and soothing like turkey chili soup just seemed like the perfect remedy. It was incredibly salty!!! Very! It was hard to enjoy, so by the 3rd spoonful I had to just throw it away. And I hate, I mean absolutely despise wasting my money. So there was a $ 5SMALL cup of turkey chili in the garbage. It took me a while to get that nasty salty taste out of my mouth. On the contrary, my cousin tried the Autumn Pumpkin Bisque. I don’t remember all of whats in it, but she let me taste it and it was amazing! So good and filling. Kudos on that one!

The only bad thing I can say about this place is the price. But it’s hard to be mad at that because any competition is essentially the same, and their food is higher quality. Sushi is solid, but the steals are the pre made lunches. I eat turkey meatloaf nearly twice a week.

I live near Gourmet Garage and go there often. When I read the negative reviews, I felt obliged to counter-act some of the hostility. This is a wonderful place to shop! The produce is fresh, beautifully arranged and they have a wide selection. When I was looking for a specific seasoning in another section, the employee walked me over to where it was located. Sometimes one’s own attitude can bring forth negative vibes from others and that’s what the one-star reviewers sounded like to me. Gourmet Garage on 7th is great!

I’m sick of this place. Sure, vegetable section is better than Gristedes, but every time I’m in there it’s like a contest to see what basic thing I need they won’t have. Just go to Gristedes.

Unbelievably awful. Truly, I mean that– as I left this place I actually had to stand on the corner for a second and go over what had just occurred in my mind. Did a teenager with terrible ombré hair just actually throw(THROW) the basket I was holding over her shoulder onto the floor when I asked her where to put it? Did the checkout girl never take her eyes and hands off her cell phone, to the point that some of my items ended up not on the bag but spilled and broken? Is the whole place a completely confusing mess with no organization, room to move, or any logical sense to the layout? Yes, yes, and yes. We now call it «Garbage Garage,» which is a much more suitable name. Avoid.

Ugh. I have come home straight from shopping at this place. If you think Whole Foods is expensive wait until you walk into this place. With those beer prices you’re better off shopping at the bars next door. Produce? Chips? Crackers? Forget about it. $ 2, $ 3, $ 4, marked up. Dean and Deluca’s prices can’t touch this place; you know, the famous Dean and Deluca’s? Ridiculous. It’s not unpleasant inside however. I would say that the inside is kind of nice and is comparable to a Trader Joe’s. Until you meet the staff, that is. I’m not sure if we went on an off night or something, but I’m not even that rude to people in my life that I intimately know and have decided that I don’t like. One of the employees full on walked into my girlfriend while she’s standing still(looking at peanut butter, we love peanut butter) and walked off with a rude remark. I stared at the departing back of a person that I couldn’t imagine would have behaved like that at the place where she worked as it disappeared into a back room. I guess she does work here. We approached the the one seemingly open cash register with our overly expensive items. cashier — «I’m closed» us(mishearing) — «Sorry, what?» cashier — «I’M CLOH-SDEH» Wow, nice. I wonder where we go, did we earn these by enduring rude employees? Anyway, pay someone else money. The biggest corporation you can think of earns it more than these clowns.

For those hard to find foodie novelties, a plethora of healthy snacking options or just great selections for that recipe that you’ve been itching to try… this is why I love GG. t is not cheap but the quality is top notch. I highly recommend that you go to Gourmet with a list — plan of action… if you don’t you will buy everything!

This location is disgusting — I thought it was going to be clean like its Soho counterpart. Boy, was I wrong… not just that, they’re much bigger and they don’t have a hot food bar? Well, I guess that’s for the best… So, you know when sometimes you get the feeling that the establishment you’re dining at isn’t clean… and you start searching your food for anything that might further turn you off? Like a hair, an insect, etc… Well, I picked up a packaged container of sushi and, lo and behold, I saw a little hair sticking out in one of the rolls. So, not only did this location seem dingy and gross, it actually was. Gourmet Garage is right. And the price point? If they’re charging Whole Foods prices, they should also ensure cleanliness!!!

I disagree with others on this board that Gourmet Garage is less expensive than Whole Foods. Whole Foods is actually cheaper on most products and has better quality(for the most part). Whole Foods is actually a Grocery Store while Gourmet Garage is basically only a bodega with more gourmet items. Only when I notice that the lines are long at Citarella will I venture into Gourmet Garage as my backup to when I want to cook something special and I don’t desire to leave my five block radius.

Gourmet Garage is great if you want to cook a fancy dinner. That’s exactly what I use it for, and nothing else. It is of course more pricey than many supermarkets, but I think the quality of their products is worth the extra cost. I actually think their prices are on-par with D’agastino’s, which provides way less quality fare. The staff are friendly enough, though not any kind of food connoisseurs. The only major downside is the size of the store — TINY. The checkouts are cramped and the registers outdated, so expect a wait time at peak hours to pay. All in all, definitely one of the better grocery stores in the neighborhood.
