We stopped by just to get sushi but ended up with salmon salad, emu yakisoba and green tea ice-cream. I liked the ice-cream the most. The salad was fine. Emu my friend thought was mediocre but he lived in Japan before so he has a more connoisseur taste than I do with respect to Japanese delicacies. There’s a specialty heated/wash massage loo in the tiny restaurant. At first I was reluctant to test it – for fear of stranger non hygiene — but it seemed too quaintly irresistible to not take that small risk, so I did. The heated seat felt nice :) Décor was mixed Japanese with tons of animal figurines such as owls. There are storage bins under the seats for our purses and the like, which I found neatly practical and convenient. Not a hidden gem in the village but not bad for a small place. Good for cozy convos if you want to get to know someone better.

My favorite Japanese restaurant in the City. Great taste of its decoration and many creative dishes. Its chicken wing is amzing, crunchy outside and tender inside. Nice service. Actually I really wanna give them a 5+ review. Can’t wait to visit there again.

Really nice chicken wings! They made it so tender inside. Not badly impressed by the Yakisoba in egg, tho. It’s a cozy place, but there are not many tables. Perfect for any party of two.

I bookmarked this place a while ago and was very excited to eat there as the place has some nice review. The plum wine was delicious! I had the fried brie that was very good. I ate them by myself but it is something to share because it is a little bit greasy. I also had some sushi that was very good. unfortunately i did not like the white sauce. no flavor. Finally I have the fried seaweed. same thing as the brie bite I ate them by myself byt as it is fried it’s something to share as an appetizer. ‘Will come back because I want to try other stuff in their menu. It is not a sushi place it’s a Japanese menu!

Upon entering this small Japanese restaurant, I saw numerous owl statues and figures strewn throughout. I wondered if the owner really loved owls or just thought it was a cute touch to the décor. Whatever the reason, I really liked it. We were quickly sat for two people at the counter during a Friday night. We ordered Japanese Taro Croquette, Zeru Teba, Grilled Salmon Marinated Saikyo Miso, Grilled Miso Cod and a side of rice. My friend also got an oolong tea cocktail but it was nothing special. The chicken wings(Zeru Teba) was juicy and easy to pull off the bamboo sticks. I loved the crispy texture of the skin but I felt like they seasoned it way too much with pepper. As more dishes come and my water dwindled in volume, I realized just how hard it was for the two female servers to pay attention and fill our water glasses. They were too busy talking to one another and playing with their phones to actually do their jobs properly. At one point they were talking about nail polish and I heard one of them say, «Green nails look like a fungus.» Definitely not a visual I’d want to think about while eating dinner. I question whether or not they care that we were able to hear them but the service was definitely nonexistent. They only refilled our glasses once I FINALLY managed to grab their attention. Figures. The two fish we ordered was decent. They were both average but I definitely preferred the Miso Cod. The salmon felt a bit overcooked for my taste so it seemed a bit dry for me. I wouldn’t get it again. We wanted dessert so we ended up with Almond Jelly and the Gorgonzola Cheesecake. I personally preferred the Almond Jelly, it was light and somewhat sweet. It was quickly gone before I knew it! With the cheesecake, it’s obviously not your typical cheesecake. This is the first time I ever had this Italian cheesecake but it was underwhelming. I wouldn’t get it here again. On a whole, the food was pretty decent. I liked the cozy, intimate atmosphere but it was ultimately the lackluster service that disappointed me. Constantly hearing the severs’ conversation was completely distracting and negatively impacted my experience there. The amount paid for what we got wasn’t worth it since there are cheaper and tastier options out there in terms of izakaya spots in New York. Don’t waste your money if you want to be satisfied by coming here.

Feels like found nice spot to get some Japanese Izakaya dishes in West Village. Although I had no information about this place, I had to jump into this location as we were so starving and road was packed with crowd of people during Halloween night. As my girl friend was craving for something fresh and light to eat, I though this would be nice choice and I was right. They have small spaces with less than 10 tables with bar sitting. I was lucky that I didn’t need to wait for table. We only tried sashimi plate with raw beef yet I could see how the food looks like as they have picture of food on their menu, and they look really nice. All the foods were nice. It wasn’t super8 quality but ok freshness with great taste. Service wasn’t really great thou. Wait staff seems like need much more training. They were so confused with serving less than 10 tables. I think they need some work on management. I will try to visit them someday later to try some other dishes with sake.

This is my new favorite Japanese joint, which incidentally also lies in my favorite nyc neighborhood. There is likely to be a wait for a table since it is not a big place so it is definitely not an ideal place for hosting a party. That aside, everything else hit the spot, esp the range of sake, beer and food choices. My favorite two dishes would have to be the avocado tofu and amazing chicken wings. The tofu was incredibly creamy and had such a unique quality to it that I enjoyed every single bite. Thumbs up for the wings as well, which is actually referred to as the«amazing chicken wings» in the menu! It was probably the best wings I have had in my life. Never has it been that juicy and soft and packed with flavor! Just the right texture and flavor balance! I even had second helpings. You have to end the meal with black sesame ice cream! No other way. I can’t wait for my next trip there!

This is my top gem place to eat with friends! I like their chicken wings! Well seasoned and u can literally separate meat from bone without putting any effort! Avocado toufu tasted good also! Smooth and melting in your mouth. Make a reservation and be aware that u have to order drinks. Desserts were good! Not over sweet and light! Highly recommend!

A foodgasm is what i got here! ! This is already my second time here and for the second time it’s already blew my mind! I’ve already tried tons of things on the menu so trust me on this one this place is worth a few visits! Check this, I got the grilled cod, salmon & salmon roe rice bowl hit the spot. The grilled salmon, the shrimp tempura & crab, seared mackerel sashimi & vegetable were a great hit! My friend ordered Daikon & Salmon Salad and mentioned the contrasting flavors being on par. The taste throughout the salad changes and he was able to internalize it with his taste buds. Last time I ordered the avacado Tofu. My friend loved it and I didn’t. . The saki we got was the number one favored dassai 50– junmai and got the filtered. was the perfect way to end the body high from this extraordinary food.

Very expensive even though the food is good. I got the Salmon and salmon roe stone pot. It was good but more of a splurge and small portion size even for someone who doesn’t eat a lot. 20 minute wait period for it!

Portions are extremely small. Those with larger appetites may need to order more to feel satisfied. Nonetheless, the food that my friends and I ordered were surprisingly good. I hate getting my hands dirty when eating chicken wings outside of my home, but the Zuri Teba chicken wings at Fukurou were so tender that it came right off the bone once you remove the bamboo stick. The chicken has a nice savory taste, but we had to order two dishes because each dish came with just three pieces and one dish was not going to feed a group of 6. We also got the Seared Fatty Salmon, Grilled Beef Outside Skirt with Garlic Sauce, Grilled Mackerel, and the Shellfish.

Wandered in to Fukurou on a gorgeous summer Sunday night, in search of sushi. We got what we came for — to an extent — as well as a few other Japanese tapas. They’re one of the only spots in the neighborhood that has raw fish as well as outdoor seating, so our choices were limited. Apparently, this place is a chain in Japan, and this is their first US location. Service was prompt, friendly, knowledgeable — the menu is somewhat limited. 2 basic rolls(a tempura, a spicy tuna) and a sashimi plate, plus a variety of interesting non-sushi dishes. It’s on the expensive side for sushi(Sashimi appetizer — 10 small pieces of fish, $ 20?) but the cheap side for other things(garlic steak appetizer, $ 7,) so it evens out in the end. We tried 6 dishes and I wasn’t tremendously full afterwards, so better for a date or sharing with a group. Sashimi, while sparse, was delicious and fresh — I’d never had a truly raw shrimp before, so that was a new experience. The sushi rolls, not tremendously memorable. The fatty tuna appetizer was a definite winner, as well as the garlic steak, although I would have preferred it rare-r. Net/net: decent date spot, followed by a walk around the village, and you’ll be in good shape.

I came here on a Sunday and didn’t have to wait. My friend found Fukurou through Unilocal and both agree that the food looks good. The avocado tofu that most people recommended I didn’t really like. I prefer more a creamy avocado taste but the soy taste was too strong. The chicken wings had slightly too much salt and pepper but it still tasted really good. The omu yakisoba, the yakisoba itself had a lot of sauce is distribute very well with the noodle. The services is okay, the food is interesting and I feel like most of their food is good but there’s something missing in each of them. I would come back other dishes from the menu! (DOWNSIDE: It’s a bit pricey).

Let me start by saying I did not realize I needed a reservation before walking in. The staff however was accommodating and allowed my friend and I to sit and eat before the next two-person reservation. It was a small gesture, but one that was very much appreciated, especially since it was so hot outside and neither my friend, nor I, wanted to eat outside. The menu was smaller than what I was expecting(not sure why considering I did look at it on their website), but I was quickly overwhelmed by how delicious everything looked and sounded. We ended up ordering the avocado tofu, raw octopus with wasabi, fried squid and octopus, and yellowtail collar(it was a special). While the dishes may seem small, they were all quite flavorful. I was quite satisfied with everything I ate. I will definitely keep this place in mind for the next time I’m in Greenwich Village.

Good chicken, solid food all around. I came with a friend on a weekend with a reservation, and it’s a pretty small space, so a reservation might be recommended. We split a few dishes, the highlight of which was the zuru teba. The chicken is very flavorful and really tender, and it’s probably one of the best dishes there, while I also enjoyed the salmon and salmon roe rice dish. As for the rest of the dishes, the avocado tofu is refreshing, while the deep fried tofu dish and the deep fried drumsticks were decent. Outside of the chicken wings, everything else was fairly ordinary(although tasty!), and while I’d enjoy another meal here, I wouldn’t go out of my way to come back here.

My friends and I came here for an intimate birthday dinner. we all agreed that this would be a nice place to have a 3rd date because of the cute atmosphere and small bites are good for sharing. My favorite was their chicken wings, it melts in your mouth… yes I know sounds weird. Another memorable dish was their ginger rice dish which the server serves in separate bowls for you. It has veggies and a hint of ginger or ginseng. Our dinner ended up being 2 hours due to extremely slow service but I wasn’t in any hurry. I’d come here again.

came here on a rainy week night before the dinner crowd hits. we got seated immediately and picked a few items to try: –avocado tofu: layered like little bricks, i could taste the distinct taste of avocado and soy, it tastes soft and rich, quite cool. –zuru teba: seared chicken wings, they’re very tender and juicy on the inside, has a crispy skin. good pick! –fried squid/octopus: kinda greasy and just ok. –crab and shrimp tempura sushi: served with slivered onions, creamy sauce, tobiko, and alfafa sprouts, with soy sauce jelly on the side. this is a departure from standard sushi, i like it quite a lot. –omu yakisoba: stirfried noodles covered in thin egg crêpe, drizzled with sweet brown glaze, japanese mayo. the noodles were just ok, sauces on the outside tastes way too sweet. i think the portion size left a bit to be desired, definitely on the small tapas side. also, i think it’s overpriced, i mean, $ 4 for a canned coke?! kinda insane IMO. service was okay. i don’t like the open kitchen design either, left the place smelling like greasy food. although we ordered a bunch of stuff to try, we were definitely still hungry. meh, i think there are better izakayas in the city with better prices. i wanted to love Fukurou, but i’m afraid i can’t.

Not bad, not the greatest either. Mew easily trumps this place on any given day. The big thing that ticked us off was the fact they offered water or tea at the start of the meal but did not tell us the tea was not free. We got the tea and when we asked for more, the waitress THEN tells us that the tea cost money. Uh… Why didn’t you tell us BEFORE?
