As a historic pub the interior feels authentic but the loud music totally destroys that olde worlde feel. Beers are okay, not special. Flatbreads are good, but again, nothing to shout about. overall, tourist-trappy and overpriced like most of Manhattan.

Fraunces Tavern is an underappreciated neighborhood fixture – it has consistently good upscale pub fare in a unique and historic space. The pulled pork sandwich was terrific, along with the house-made coleslaw and pickles. Steak was cooked to perfection – not overdone. We sat in a back room(one I didn’t know existed) where it was nice and quiet. After your meal, take some time to browse the museum upstairs!

Fraunces tavern is pure history. It was built in 1719and is one of the oldest bar restaurants in America. George Washington gave one of his last speeches here. I’m so glad I was able to experience this piece of Americana history. I was greeted by one of the managers, Eddie Travers who is super awesome in explaining the history of the restaurant. He walked me through each room and spoke about all the nostalgia in regards to George Washington and The Revolutionary War. Upstairs they have a museum where Washington gave one of his final speeches. As far as the food. I had to go with the traditional Irish breakfast which includes bangers, ham, white and black blood pudding bacon tomatoes and mushrooms and baked beans. Absolutely delicious. I was waited on by Tara, who is fabulous. When in Manhattan, you must make Fraunes Tavern one of your destinations. You won’t regret it. Thanks Eddie and Tara.

Cool historic tavern. Great décor and vibe. Good beer selection. Did not try the food. Also, George Washington was here! It says so in one of the bathroom stalls! It actually doesn’t but he really did spend time here. I came here after the Dead Rabbit around the corner and was bummed that the museum upstairs was closed — they close at 5pm. So don’t be like me — make this an earlier stop and stock up on history before getting sloshed.

I was there yesterday for lunch with a small group of people. I had the fish and chips and it was fine, except for the weird pea sauce that tasted like one of those green juices. I don’t know why it was part of the dish. It made no sense, but I just left it off to the side, so it didn’t ruin my meal. Everyone else in my party complained a little bit about their food(too heavy, meat too fatty, etc.). We all agreed the décor was charming and the service was friendly(but slow). The thing that really irked me was that they charged my credit card twice. I called and got the manager’s voicemail, left a message. I got a return call from someone that I assume was the manager, but she didn’t identify herself. She seemed really bored and annoyed, and she was also really condescending, explaining to me that when a charge on my credit card account is listed as «pending,» that means that it will be cancelled. Nope, that’s not what it means, but I let her talk. She told me that whoever had made the mistake had probably voided it, so I should check after a few days. Whoever? Probably? That tells me that she didn’t bother to look it up in the computer system to see who did it, and whether that person actually did void the extra charge. She also didn’t bother to apologize for the overcharge. What lazy management and poor customer service.

Waitress was very rude acted like it was a bother for us to be there and it took forever to just get a meat and cheese appetizer and fish and chips. Do not recommend.

Updating my review to 5 stars, largely for the incredible burger I enjoyed last night, accompanied by delicious salty, greasy fries. The burger was cooked perfectly, and though the servers were racing around to manage the crowds, we nevertheless never waited too long.

Love the history here. We stopped for some desert and to relax. We had a fire in the fire place and some out standing jazz by Emily Asher’s Garden party. Best jazz music we have heard in a long time. Relaxing time for us all.

Pros: Food is amazing, matire’d went above and beyond helping us decide where to sit since there were 8 of us and a stroller. Cons: Getting our food was realllllly slow, and getting minor things after(extra plate for sharing, some mayo) took repeated requests. If you like whiskeys and bourbons, go. They make mean cocktails as well(one of the best sazeracs I’ve had outside NOLA).

This is the coolest restaurant I have been to in NY! Reading about the history is really cool. There is a nice bar area with comfy seats next to a warm fire where we got drinks. The atmosphere is laid back with music in the background. We didn’t get any food, just drinks, but next time we are in the area I am defiantly getting food! This is such an awesome place I would give it more stars if I could!

Fraunces Tavern NY Manhattan FiDi 3pm Thursday 17th March 2016(St. Paddy’s Day) Three Stars This historic place was actually way more fun than expected. The space is huge. Upon entering, The right side is the restaurant where you can sit at various picnic tables. On the Left, there was a fire place lounge with plush leather seats. Just beyond that was the huge bar area. They were blasting Flogging Molly and the place smelled of freshly made fish and chips. The cow-skin booths were an interesting touch. I went sat at the bar and ordered a stout to get in the Irish spirit. They were out of the one I wanted so I took whenever they had($ 7.5). I also had some braised Short Ribs with Crispy Fingerling Potatoes. The Dish was way too salty but I rather have over-seasoned food than bland. The meat was tender but it felt like the remnants of another dish because of how shredded the meat was. The thinly sliced fingerling potatoes were crispy to start but they soften with the thick gravy. It encompassed the entire spectrum of texture. I will come back to try this place on a more normal night.

If you’re feeling American(like, patriotic, not Donald Trump) then you’ve gotta visit Fraunces Tavern. Not only will you get to breath the same air as our founding fathers, but you’ll also get to booze on some of the finest spirits. Feeling historic? Check out the museum upstairs. Came here on a cold, winter day and sat in front of a roaring fireplace while sipping mulled wine. Does that sound like a dream come true? Because it kind of was. It’s tricky to find a good fireplace bar in Manhattan that’s not packed, but I think because of the location, the bar is very chill on weekends. It’s a little bit like a Choose Your Own Adventure kind of place, with at least 5 different bars to drink inside. But once you settle on something, I’m sure it’ll please you. Make sure to stick around the the band on Sunday afternoons in the Irish pub!

I’d give a 4 ½ but the reuben sandwich wasn’t very good. Fish and chips were excellent. Visited several times. Great service, beer selection, and atmosphere.

This is a historical building-with a bar, restaurant and museum in NYC. The atmosphere because of the history makes it worth a visit. We were here in the late afternoon after doing a walking tour and having it pointed out by our guide. Had the bacon wrapped scallops for appetizer and they came with some cornbread-all very tasty. For entrée had the homemade pasta dish-ricotta ravoili and sweet corn that had a nice sauce. The service was a bit slow but the waitress was helpful and knowledgable. It is worth a visit if you are in the area.

My mother-in-law wanted to come here for lunch after we’d been to the Statue of Liberty. I was worried that with the hype it wouldn’t be worth it, but it turned out to be a pleasant experience. We were seated immediately in a booth in the bar area — 3 adults and one child. We were provided crayons and children’s menu for coloring, which helped to keep the little guy occupied while we ordered and waited for the food. There was a good beer selection — specialties and regulars. I chose the pot pie. Jimmy got the Ruben with pastrami from Katz’s. We ordered the french toast for the little guy, not off the children’s menu. The food arrived pretty quickly, with the french toast coming first, a nice touch to cater to the family crowd. The pot pie was huge with flaky crust and tasting filling — chunks of vegetables and chicken, not too salty, very comforting. As we were finishing the music was starting — early afternoon on a Saturday. All in all a pleasant experience.

Love the atmosphere and historic décor. Holiday season makes it more beautiful. We came here for lunch with a reservation but they were unable to locate it. We sat in the dining room on the church benches a couple minutes later. It can be quite frustrating if you’re running on a tight schedule and had a reservation that wasn’t honored. Pan Roasted Atlantic Salmon $ 21.00 — The salmon was very tender and delicious. It was accompanied by a side of asparagus and parsnip purée. The portion is huge and was cooked perfectly. The sear was just right and not burnt. Service was friendly and attentive. Drinks were strong and delightful. There’s a historic museum upstairs as well.

Here’s my checklist of why I doubt I’ll be returning to Fraunces Tavern after a spontaneous and longer-than-it-needed-to-be late lunch with my family. Extremely slow service: they told us after we sat down and began to order that the food would take 20 minutes to be prepared; Mediocre food: the chicken pot pie that I ordered was ok, my mom and sister weren’t excited about their dishes; And the shouldn’t-be-a-table table: Our uncomfortable table had stools with no backs and barely stood, wobbling every time we moved in the middle of the room We wanted a booth or at least one of the tables that lined the wall; 1700s vintage meets the 80s décor: neat but who can appreciate that when you’re sitting at the worse table in the restaurant.

The first time I came here(a few years ago) for dinner, I had the lamb shepherds pie. It was amazing. Hearty and flavorful comfort food. I came for lunch a few weeks ago and had the Jefferson’s Cobb salad with salmon. The salmon was overcooked and overall underwhelming. I prefer The Cobb salad from Lenny’s Sandwich over the Cobb salad here. That’s how disappointing it was. The waitress was friendly though.

This review is not based on food, just the bar area. We stopped into Fraunces Tavern to have one drink, simply because of the history behind it. Our cab driver«kindly» informed us that although most people assume it is the oldest bar in NYC, that it is in fact, not the oldest bar. Regardless, it is definitely old and there is a lot of history. I’d recommend stopping in. The food looks amazing, smells amazing, and it was hard not to order anything to eat. I had an Irish coffee, which was very strong, but very good. The bartender was extremely friendly, and definitely knew his stuff. The location is really unique, and very interesting. I would definitely come back to eat, or just to stop in for a drink.
