I can’t believe this place went out of business. The frozen yogurt was so good and it was actually organic. They also offered students discounts.

I am so sad to hear that Flavaboom is closed now! It was one of my favorite frozen yogurt spots. Really unique and delicious flavors of frozen yogurt.

Best frozen yogurt in NYC. All of the flavors are amazingly creamy and full of flavor. Got the Tahitian vanilla and cookies and cream. Both delicious!

I’ve had froyo from lots of places and they’re all pretty much the same. The test comes in with the fresh fruit and Flavaboom passes.
So on to aesthetics, the seating area and overall décor of Flavaboom is awesome.
The staff is also friendly.

The best chain froyo place in NYC!
I’ve been to a handful of the popular froyo places around NYC. None of them are particularly memorable and many of them are just plain bad.
I’m not a particular fan of froyo, most of the place I go to it just tastes like sour/​bitter ice cream. Not this place!
Every one of their favors taste EXACTLY like their name. I mean every word of that, the accuracy of the flavors is so accurate its actually scary at times. I’ve tried at least a dozen flavors so far and it has held true every time.
To top it off they have a huge selection of different toppings, I’d guess like 20 or so of them. Double or more than most other places.
Lots of other nice things that I wont take time to talk about in detail but are amazing about the place: Rewards program (no stupid card), spotlessly clean, friendly staff, cheaper prices, etc.
My only real complaint would be that they don’t take my discover card!

This is my favorite self-​serve froyo spot. Why?
–A ton of variety, and flavor changes every month.
–GREAT topping selection too! I love the mini-​marshmallows and mini gummy bears.
–Clean, crisp atmosphere, limited seating, but good enough.
–Awesome rewards program (I’m almost at my first free froyo: D)
–Great service. I’m always greeted with a smile.
Overall, can’t complain. I loved the Fruity Pebbles flavor for April!

This is a froyo place more or less just like all the other froyo places.
It’s self-​serve. I like self-​serve. It means I don’t have to talk to anyone. I don’t want to have to tell a dude with a spoon that I want 8 servings of mochi. That’s my business.
They also have baked goods. Yay!

Very nice setting. Love the fresh looking place. I like to come here instead of Pinkberry which is packed with teenagers.
Tried the pistachio flavor which was very food. The Swiss chocolate frozen yogurt tastes veryyy chocolatey and the French toast flavor tastes like syrup and cinnamon. But I really like the clean space and the selection.

I headed to Flavaboom today after my FAVVORRRIITTEE fro-​yo place (16 Handles) closed down. I admit, I was a little salty about the closure of my previous spot, so I was looking for something to complain about. The service was great. But I wasn’t moved by the small variety of flavors. Also, there really isn’t enough seating in that place. Unfortunately, I’m not crowning this my new fro-​yo place. but it satisfied the craving.

I work a few blocks from Flavaboom, and our office is so hot that it’s become a weekly habit to go and grab a cup of froyo in order to cool down. While they have 10 different flavors at all time and a ton of toppings, I’m not the biggest fan of their yogurt flavors. While I like their froyo texture (smooth, delicious, plus freezable and not icy the next day), I always get the same flavors when I go (unlike when I go to 16 Handles or the self-​serve Red Mango in Stuy Town).
I’m a big fan of their banana almond, basic tart, cookies & cream, chocolate & peanut butter flavors. I’m also a huge fan of their apple pie, taro, green tea and pumpkin cheesecake flavors. But half of the flavors I just listed are rotational, which kind of sucks. At last they have mochi and boba as some of their toppings.
Plus, Flavaboom is super pricey compared to 16 Handles or the self-​serve Red Mango. Probably why my friend and I only go between 11:30 — 1:30 PM (when it’s $ 0.39/oz instead of $ 0.59)… or maybe I just need to eat less froyo. (Nah, no such thing as eating too much froyo).

I am a huge fan of Flavaboom! Super clean, the staff keeps an eye out for all things not. Although the staff is pretty neutral on the customer service, I give 5 stars for the Froyo and topping selection/​quality!
I have to stay away I am addicted…

When I was in NYC I met some locals up for dinner and they suggested we walk a few blocks to get our taste buds «flavaboom-​ed». This is very similar to most yogurt by weight type of yogurt bars and was very good.
The service was quick and helpful (someone was there to give me my taste test versus making me do it on my own… how fancy), and the variety of toppings was in plenty.

The people working here were so super friendly.
I got a tiny amount each of 3 flavors because whenever I go to these self-​serve places and don’t even get toppings, my cups ring up to some ridiculously high price. This tiny amount was $ 3.23. It was enough though to give me a sampling of their quality and get the edge off my sweet craving.
I didn’t care for their tart flavor — too icy, too tart, not creamy enough.
Swiss Chocolate flavor was too overpowering– the chocolate tasted almost artificial. Also too sweet and not creamy enough.
Best was the peanut butter flavor, but again tasted as it might have been artificial?
No great quality yogurt here but at least it’s a nice, bright, friendly place.

They must have crack in the yogurt. I craaaaave this stuff.
Love the flavors, not too synthetic tasting. Euro/​plain is always a great choice.
Fruit is always fresh, not weird canned stuff.
Toppings arent stale.
great rewards program – by signing up with your cell #, you get periodic texts for 10−20% and updates on new flavors. Plus once you spend 50 $ (a bit steep) you get a free 8oz one (like $ 5)
Only downside is that there is just one location.

My sweet tooth usually gets sated really fast, so I’m a big fan of small portions or sharing when it comes to dessert. Flavaboom did the job for me and I totally hooked on their banana flavor! (Because they taste like real bananas…)
I did not add any toppings since I’m minimalist when it comes to frozen yogurt or ice cream so I can’t comment on those. Flavaboom is 3 stars for me, plus one more for the smiley and polite cashier.

In the passage of my travels I encounter Flavaboom and wonder what my foodie adventures comes in contact with. What is all «BOOM» in the Flavaboom?
To dispel the intensity of stress from a mid-afternoon’s workload, I was in dire need to detox with a sweet delightful treat. The smallest cup was the 12 oz. micro boom frozen yogurt at $ 7.08, but I was able to utilize my 15% discount from Union Square Deal. Flavaboom appears more of a frozen yogurt lounge where patrons self-​serve from the starting point of selecting the size of cup to the base flavor of yogurt and finishing with toppings. I selected my all-​time favorite classic Vanilla base yogurt with the completion of frozen fresh strawberries as my choice of toppings. All yogurts are weighed by the pound regardless of size of cup. Toppings are many choices, however the yogurt base is very limited. There is a rewards program for frequent patrons. Flavaboom is deceptively overpriced… $ 7.08 is an utter dismay to withdraw my lunch funds for the week. Customer service is friendly and patient to explain how the self-​serve concept works whom they do not rush patrons when it is off-​peak hours of the day.
Yet. the BOOM is missing in the flavor for frozen yogurt at this yogurt parlor.

Flavaboom is my favorite frozen yogurt store, ever since I accidentally stumbled in exactly a year ago. While it is self-​serve like many other froyo shops, this place is literally revolutionizing. Everything is white, the futuristic kind of white, that makes everything else look like its floating in mid-​air. I feel like I’m in some Disney Channel space movie – perhaps Zenon: Girl of the 21^st Century. The bright magenta accents really accentuate the place’s simple and trendy ambiance. There is lots of seating, some at tables, some at window bences, and some lodged into the wall. The wall where yogurt dispensers are on are covered in tiny lights in a tight grid pattern. They change colors, create moving gradients and eye-​catching patterns. This wall could trip you out for hours, I swear.
But most importantly, their yogurt is great. While it is the most expensive self-​serve I’ve seen ($ 0.59/oz.), it is totally worth it. The consistency of the yogurt is absolutely fantastic. It’s really smooth, doesn’t melt, and has just the right amount of flavor. My favorite is the pink lemonade, which is also non-​fat. They have a huge variety of flavors – from light and fruity to snickers, all with its own nutrition facts, which is perfect for the health conscious. They also have gigantic sample cups, so make sure you try them before you buy them! They have limited toppings, but what they have is all you need. I like the lychee pop bubble (most places only have mango and strawberry). My friends like the mini cheesecake bites.
Honestly, this place is great. How else could it compete on a block with 3 – 4 other large-​name frozen yogurt stores? It has the best décor and atmosphere by far. The highest quality yogurt, even better than Pinkberry’s. They cater to the eco-​friendly, health-​conscious NYC crowd by offering recycling bins, vegan cookies, natural smoothies and more. Everyone must convert to Flavaboom.

Pros:
— flavors taste really good
— some unique and delicious toppings (e.g. oatmeal cookie pieces, ice cream cone pieces, peanut brittle)
— rewards system based on phone number so you don’t have to carry around another stamp card
Cons:
— not enough flavors
— peanut butter flavor is pretty weak
— mad stingy with the samples and they watch you like a hawk after giving you one so you can’t steal any additional ones
I would add a star if they added more flavors… and had a better sampling system (i.e. limited only by one’s own shame)

It was raining, and cold, and I just wanted to get home… but here this place was taunting me with its yummy goodness. I’d never had Flavaboom before so how could I know it would be good. I took a chance and what I good decision that was.
The self serve idea is great, this way nobody could skimp me on how much ice cream my eyes desire. The toppings are welcoming and plentiful. (wishing I was there now, sigh)
So I contained my excitement (hadn’t had ice cream in years) and didn’t sample the contents of my cup until after I was comfortably sitting. I couldn’t believe what I was eating… it tasted like frozen hot chocolate. The consistency was ideal, the toppings weren’t overpowering the ice cream, and the price was well worth it.

Flavaboom is not THAT expensive if you actually pay attention to what you’re doing. In Connecticut TCBY does the self-​serve thing, although they’re only 49 cents an ounce.
I don’t know why people are complaining that they don’t let you sample flavors, because they let me & the other customers in with me sample. Pick the smallest of the two large cups, don’t overfill, and don’t load up on dense, bulky toppings. Not too hard. I got $ 5.60something worth, and I had a groupon so it only cost me $ 3. Of course you’re going to pay more than at pinkberry if you get the mini at pinkberry and load the damn cup up here. I don’t get why it’s such a tough concept.
As an aside: I got the tangy, which was not very tangy, it was more buttery. Not in a bad way, but not what I expected. Also, the superbright futuristic décor is cool.
