So sorry to learn that the restaurant closed. We have been going there for many years. I also celebrated my 70th birthday there. The food, the ambiance and the service were always great.

Crushed to learn of this devastating news. El Charro has closed. I have been eating at El Charro for 26 years. Never, ever had a bad meal there. The staff was terrific. My wife and I will miss date night with pitchers of their legendary red-sangria. PLEASERE-OPEN !!

I sorry to learn that El Charro’s has closed. I’ve been going there for over 40 years. The food was the best and so were the people who ran it. We have many great memories there celebrating every possible occasion. Just want to say Good bye to Louise, Carlos and Marino and the rest of the staff and hope you read this. The best to all of you and thank you for all the wonder times. Carol & Gary from NJ

Warning!!! Undercooked food and Double Charged on My Debit Card! My brother and I took our mother to El Charro to celebrate her birthday dinner. We each ordered a variation of their staple dish, which is the Paella. However, while eating the Paella, we noticed that the rice was grossly raw and undercooked. We did not make any waves about the quality of food because it was our mother’s birthday and wanted the evening to be enjoyable. The next day, my bank alerted me that I was double charged for the meal. I promptly contacted El Charro this afternoon in an attempt to resolve the matter and was abruptly dismissed over the phone. After work, I had to travel from the upper East side to El Charro in an attempt to resolve this issue. When I arrived to resolve the issue, the employees at El Charro were unhelpful and evasive about the matter. I provided El Charro employees with proof of the double charge and demanded a refund for the erroneous charge. I was told that the manager was unavailable and to comeback on Wednesday. I stayed and reasonably attempted to get my issue resolved, but El Charro employees were uncooperative. Tonight, I am wasting additional time with my bank to get this matter resolved. Patronizing El Charro has been a complete NIGHTMARE!!!

Sopa de ajo in NYC! If you’ve never before tried this Galician garlic soup, you’re in for a treat! The fried calamari was nice but some pieces were a bit tough and the sauce was mundane. Veal chops were succulent, but the white meat chicken in the delicious mole sauce was a bit dry. Great values on the wine list. I’d have expected greater variety among tequila choices, though. Service was welcoming if a bit inattentive at times. A huge menu from which to choose, but it is necessary to choose carefully for the best experience. I’d have given another half star had that been possible.

Service was great, the baccalo croquetas are delicious! The sangria is also well made– didnt taste over sweetened– a perfect blend of fruits and wine. Will go back to try more tapas!

We came here at the recommendation of my daughters best friend who frequents here with her family when they visit NYC. We came here for dinner to celebrate my daughters 16th birthday. My husband and I had a refreshing pitcher of sangria to start. The salsa was served warm and was so good that we devoured several bowls. My daughter enjoyed the beef enchilada, my son enjoyed the most amazing shrimp dish, and my husband and I shared the beef fajita. Our guests ordered the lemon chicken and the grilled salmon. I do believe that there was not a crumb left on any plate. We had a wonderful meal and very attentive service. Also loved the atmosphere. Very warm and cozy.

I’ve been coming to this restaurant for over 40 years! My parents used to bring us. It’s our birthday go-to! Some of the same staff is still there! Every selection is spectacular and authentic. Absolutely an NYC hidden gem!

I am a regular here and I love coming to this place. It’s never that crowded considering that it’s in West Village. Great authentic Spanish food and friendly servers. Def. Recommend this place if you’re considering a low key Spanish restaurant with good food.

A hidden gem & solid choice for Spanish food in the WV. We like it much better than Sevilla. The food & service are consistently excellent. Everyone is very nice — from the kitchen staff to the waiters — all really kind & wonderful with our 5-year old son. Food favorites include: Sangria, gazpacho, white asparagus, fried calamari, garlic shrimp appetizer, spicy octopus appetizer, Chicken El Charro, shrimp in green sauce, flounder in green sauce, enchiladas, paella & of course, flan. Outstanding. Love, love, love El Charro‼
I have been coming here for years. My daughter had discovered it after attending the University of Salamanca. She said the paella was the most authentic for the region she ever had. I agreed. We have been returning for years. It is small and quiet and the food is always outstanding. Didn’t understand the few, very few, negative reviews I saw. We have always gone in parties of 4, 5, or 6 and always share. Everything is great. Watch the San Gria, it is old world and more potent than the simple wine and fruit you get in a lot of places. It has been there almost 100 years so they must be doing something right!

We have been going Here for over 30 years. The food had always been consistently very good. While there are other good Spanish restaurants This is my absolute favorite. The atmosphere is cozy and service excellent. Last night we had sea food Mariscada and Pollo Ajillo. Both were prepared to perfection. If your looking for a reasonable priced restaurant with great food and service give El Charro a try soon.

This place is a hidden gem. If you love Spanish food, you need to go here. I had the Paella marinara with lobster and it was delicious. The Sangria is also very good. The staff is super friendly and the atmosphere is cozy. Great place to go on a date!

I cannot believe how many times I have sat outdoors at Wogie’s and not noticed this place! First of all, I LOVED that we were able to walk in here at 8:30 on a Friday night and get a table with out a problem. We did laugh that they looked around to see if they could accomodate us(there was only one other table seated). The service was amazing. They were very attentive, great at explaining menu items and even making suggestions. Everything we ordered was amazing! We ordered: — a sauteed octopus appetizer. It came out sizzling in chili oil with garlic. It was outstanding. — choriqueso. I mistakenly thought this was going to be a melted cheese appetizer, and it kind of was. It’s an open face quesadilla with melted cheese and chorizo. It was okay, but paled in comparison to the octopus. –Paella Valenciana. Amazing assortment of seafood and chicken. It was super flavorful, moist and enough that we took some home for the next day. We had a friend from Miami with us and she claims it is some of the best paella she’s ever had. — Fajitas — steak/chicken. These were super yummy. Cooked to a perfect temperature and not too oily. They do not come with cheese, but they do come with a plethora of sour cream, guac and salsa. They boast the«best margarita in town» on their menu. I’m not sure that is the case, but it was decent(and very small for the $ 10 or $ 12 price). Although the place is intimate, the atmosphere is mixed. There was a mixture of neighborhood folks in jeans and fleeces, date-night couples and friends hanging out. It is super small, so the tables are pretty close together. Not the best for a date or needing any kind of privacy. Overall, I was incredibly impressed with this place and look forward to returning soon.
