I don’t know why people hate on this place. They have very tasty food all delivered fresh from various vendors every day. I stop in and grab dinner here sometimes when I’m in the area but it’s more of a lunch joint. Honestly there are a lot of hole in the wall«upscale bodega» spots like this all over the city, but I really like the friendly service here. And if there’s ONE reason to go out of your way to come here(which embarrassingly, I find myself doing after work regularly), it’s for their black-and-white cookies, which stand up to some of the best in the city, and are definitely the best in this area. Delivered fresh every morning, I’m almost hesitant to publish this because they run out before I get there sometimes. Just go and try a black-and-white, and you won’t be sorry.

Almost everyone seem want to nail this place, I had a few times their chopped salad which came out to about 13 $, it was good but their seating area is not comfortable feels like you’re seating in the dirty deli. They charge you what they want and look very mean at the check out, last time I went there for breakfast which turned out to 7 $ but when I added small plain tea to the order she charged me 10 $, 3 $ for a cheap small tea? That made me never go there again. That’s greed.

Not only are a few of the staff members unbelievably rude(it’s mind blowing, even for new york), but the food is subpar and beyond overpriced. Eggs are overcooked, bacon is soggy… how is it that a $ 4 breakfast sandwich turns into $ 4.90 with tax? I refuse to come here anymore. Do yourself a favor and check out A&A down the street — they’ve officially won my business over this dump.

BEWAREOFPRICING, they seem to charge whatever the hell they want. Got a pasta with broccoli, chicken, and mushroom and it came out to $ 11. Nothing special. Last time, I got the buffet order with a small piece of salmon and roasted veggies and it came out to $ 16! Screw this place, NEVERAGAIN!

$ 12.75 for a mediocre salad with a bad avocado. I wont be coming back.

In an area overrun with food choices this place fails miserably. The selection is typical of others nearby, but that’s quickly negated by the chaos of ordering. It’s pretty much a free-for-all at the counter as it’s in the middle of the store. The staff themselves are on the rude side, almost as though they’re doing you a favor just being there. The prices are on par with everywhere else. Another big negative is the lack of seating. Definitely worth walking by to one of the many other spots.

wow. looked promising, there is a serious lack of delis in the area so decided to give them try. ordered and omelet. seriously the worst eggs i have ever had. my blind father in law would have made better eggs. they were so overcooked and burnt that i think they would even be rejected by stray dogs. over priced as well. never going back. cashiers are surly.

I love this place. The staff is always friendly even when they’re slammed! The guys on the grill remember my breakfast order and the girls at the register are super nice with the right amount of sassy. When i order delivery its been fast and accurate. I’ve been relying on this place for breakfast for years now and i cant even remember one time i’ve been disappointed. Two thumbs up from this happy customer!

I’ve lived in the area and have been a customer for years — makes sense to finally write a review, right? I love this place. It’s an old-school NY deli and they’re becoming more rare, so I love that this place still exists. It’s not fancy, and that’s one reason I love it. The food is good, I personally like their cappuccino — which is really more of a latte(aka and American cappuccino). What sets this place apart are the people — the owner is often making the food right along with his(smiling, friendly, charming) staff.

What! Should I say sth or not. Got a small plate of chicken. I wanted mostly chicken but they man there add many veggies and insisted in my having more carbs which I didn’t want. Basically I paid $ 11 but I did not see any prices nor did they weighed it. Happy that places like this will close on its own. Thanks Unilocal

An above-average takeout place with catholic tastes. Once they get to know you they like you and you can engage in some good Bangladeshi jokes.

If there was any way to not even give it any stars I would. You just one get one person to help you with your order you’ll get four. It is each of their objective to screw up your order and keep you there longer than you already want to. The cashier staff are to uptight and need to take their jobs more serious… food is lower than average theres better deli’s around don’t bother…

I work right around the corner from this place … the soups are awesome … salads are alright … and they have fresh juices. I just had an experience there and will probably keep me from ever going back. 1) the salad guy yelled at me … then apologized but still glared at me the entire time I was there! 2) the juice I ordered(which I order all the time) was all of a sudden«too much pineapple» and«We should charge you more» … I’m sorry but that is not how this works. Kale, Spinach, and Pineapple is not an odd juice to order. If YOU cant figure out how to work your juicer properly in order to get juice from vegetables(most likely the quality of the veggies) that is not my problem. The only redeeming thing was that a member of the staff who saw me get yelled at by the salad guy, gave me a free soup. Good luck City Market Café. I will never be back because you suck!

Wish I had read reviews before I went here. Yuck the stench in there was horrid you smelled it as soon as you got in there. Super expensive salad and the lettuce wasn’t even fresh yuck. I will not be coming back. Truly disgusted.

One muffin and one bottle of water starts my work day which totals under $ 5.00. This deli does offer salads, sandwiches and including a salad bar. Chaotic check-out line for a non-systemic order intakes. Service is Meh. My muffin was okay as it was neither stale, nor moist but okay.

There are a multitude of places just like City Market Café, a combo deli /lunch spot where the heartbeat of the business depends on the breakfast crowd and the lunch flow. Offering many options from salads to sandwiches to a self serve buffet, the place is more of a zoo during the lunch hour than a dependable place to grab a great meal. I used to enjoy going there during the early morning hours to score one of the few decent things on their menu: breakfast sandwiches. A nice ham, egg, and cheese sandwich seemed to be a good way to start the day but I started foolishly opting for lunch when I started coming in later during the day. But the lunch rush can be brutal sometimes. Lines galore typically, rushed service, and slim pickins for things like their lunch buffet. Ironically, the food is pretty bland overall. Their soups, sandwiches are ho hum worthy and even the ever popular salad bar takes a hit from time to time. As for the buffet, don’t bother. Not that prices are too high, but they’ve seen their fair share of hikes over the past couple of years. Some folks will likely complain the panini is 40 cents higher than it used to be, or why the pizza in all of its near inedible glory is nearly $ 2 higher than the last time I bought one. It is a hit or miss type place, less on the hit and many more on the misses.

Very friendly staff. A little pushy, but still very friendly. I ordered the quiche, and they heated it up for me. It was delicious; a classic quiche with no frills or bizarre«twists.» I eat a lot of quiche, and this one was fabulous! They have almost a plethora of options. I was a little overwhelmed by them! Limited seating available; it’s more of a grab-and-go kind of place.

Sorry to say City Market Café has gone way down hill. The Salad bar is no longer $ 7.95, it is now pay $ 1 for every extra item!!! WTF This was the only good thing about this place. I was shocked when my salad was $ 15.95 – I think NOT. Also, they received a B on their sanitary grade. B = No Bueno. Dear City Market Café –read your reviews, the salad bar was the only thing keeping people coming to your spot! Bring back the endless $ 7.95 salad.
