C-Squat is an underground punk venue and living space in the Lower East Side. It’s somewhat similar to ABC No Rio in that there’s lots of graffiti, sometimes art exhibits, punk shows, and they both have an Anarchist/squatter history. If you’re interested in punk rock or squatter culture it’s worth visiting. That being said, C-Squat is kinda gritty. Where as ABC No Rio is pretty kid friendly as far as punk venues go, C-Squat can be a little rougher. Last time I went to a show here the place was filled with cigarette and pot smoke and there was quite a lot of drinking going on. Seen people smoke rock there too. Best for an 18 and over crowd. Leave the kiddies at home.

This place is amazing! Great people, great times, great conversion. Just don’t expect to get in unless you really REALLY know someone here. Otherwise you’re looking at talking to the doorman for your evening, which is really probably more enriching than anywhere else you could go at night.

These kind of venues are rare and yet amazing! Recently«Los Crudos» played an afternoon show here and it was just what I wanted. My husband I travelled to Austin, Texas just to see Los Crudos play the Chaos and Tejas festival. And yet we receive a notice that they are playing a show in our own backyard. Bananas! I love the lead signer Martin, who is not only a talented singer but also photographer. He is also a strong believer in the necessity of these types of venues, that help exposed the youth and everyone else to unique and fun musical experience. The show cost me $ 10 and it was packed in the venue but not as packed as I expected. I will be keeping my ear to the ground for any more upcoming shows. Keep up the good work C-Squat! PS Celebrity Citing — Fat Mike from NOFX was in the crowd in a Cheeto colored mohawk!

Always a good time to be had at C. The improvements the tenants have made over the years are a testament to their solidarity and dedication to the building and the community. If you’ve never been, swing by sometime. If it’s been awhile — definitely stop by and see what’s changed. There’s a storefront museum coming soon!

I’ve heard, «Home is wear the heart is». This lovingly rebuilt Loisada tenement has been a creative incubator to some of my favorite visual artists and local musicians… since the eighties. C-Squat is so much more than a music venue. Scrawled on the performance space walls, you’ll find lists that inspire, slogans that make you think, and notes that will make you laugh-out-loud. It’s the daily life of friends, visitors and neighbors; scrawled-out in sharpie and urgently dribbled in paint. The writings only hint at the hard work, dedication and love that have gone into this building itself and the community it shelters. I just want to thank the sweet n’ crusty folks who looked up at a collapsing building in the LES one hot summer, and saw a vibrant home. Note: do yourself a favor and go see Star Fucking Hipsters live! They’ll put a smile on your face and a bounce in your step.

Oh snap! C-Squat making it on Unilocal who’d of thought? It’s kind of hard to review a place like this because its a living space/live music venue. I’ve been here countless times mainly to see my boys The Dog that Bites Everyone. The dedication and sense of community that C-Squat has makes any day there unique by it’s own right. Theres tons of history to this place which is also not to be forgotten. If your a fan of the underground music scene or just looking to have a good time be sure to stop by one of their events.

Tonight there was a party at C-Squat(«See Skwat») and I went; although I expected to see people I knew there, I was a little surprised at how many people I knew. It was cool. The atmosphere was post-punk, and there were some very hot bands playing. It reminded me a little of the late great Gusto House on 4th street(before you were born, kiddies) in that walls and ceilings had been knocked out in the performance space to make it a bi-level showplace. Because tomorrow is SantaCon, I saw a couple of Santas there. ‘Tis the season.
