Short rib tacos at Anejo in Tribeca are some of the best I’ve had in the city. I’m not an inhaler(aka a food inhaler) but I think I pretty much consumed my portion in 3 bites — one for the taco, one for the bits that fell out, and one extra because I was sad there was no more, and thought I could re-create the wave of satisfaction I had just experienced through an air chomp alone. Verde guac was also textured and tasty — it came with jalapenos and cranberries. I would’ve like a little more guac to balance out the ingredients. Service was attentive and accommodating. I loved the high ceilings. If I were a tall person, I’d really love them, because I wouldn’t hit my head.

Truly, I cannot imagine having a better experience than we had here on 1÷17÷16. My husband and I were in New York for 4 nights for my pre-celebratory 40th birthday from Miami, just the two of us. We stayed in Times Square, attended a Broadway show and strategically planned out what we hoped to be incredible culinary experiences in all neighborhoods of NYC for lunch and dinner. We went to 8 different restaurants(and numerous bars in between) on this culinary excursion. Anejo was spectacular! So much so that I have found myself daydreaming about the food and atmosphere. Beatiful outside and inside, I mean truly well done. I loved everything about the décor from the gorgeous white/cream exterior, to the perfext mixture of artsy and chic on the interior. The food is to die for. I only wish we could have tried more! We started with cocktails and the classic guacamole. I had the Anejo Margarita and my husband had a Diablo. We loved both and kept them coming. The guacamole was too good, perfect if I may, served alongside their delicious, warm tortilla chips. We proceeded to order 3 more small plates to share. The chicken adobo empanadas, the corn dumpling and the pork belly tostada. WOW, WOW, WOW for all three. I highly recommend to try all three, perfection at its best! The service was commendable. Just the right amount of attention to detail and awareness. Truly they got everything right… and were always available for our needs without being suffocating. My kind of service! I have to say, that the prize belongs to the manager, Daniel. This man was is the true definition of service at its finest. He was pleasant, nice and was on top of all aspects of the restaurant in such a professional and pleasant way. We were truly impressed with him. So much so, that as he passed by we said hello and told him what a wonderful, all around amazing experience we had and thanked him. He was so appreciative and spoke to us about our stay in NY with a genuine vibe and smile. I truly believe that the service industry doesn’t always realize what a gem a person like Daniel is for their business and overall reputation. Not to mention, he presented us with a complimentary desert, totally unexpected. The Tres Leches is delicious. Ok, I’m sure you can tell by now I’m a huge fan! Great experience all around. We can’t wait to go back!

I came here on a Saturday night as a party of four. We made a reservation via OpenTable and unfortunately, were about 20 minutes late. We did however get seated relatively quickly despite the place being pretty packed. We ordered a bunch of small plates and some cocktails off their beverage menu. All the food was decent, but left a bit to be desired. The cocktail quality was excellent and they even surprised us with a really badass whiskey sour(cocktail lounge quality with the egg white and freshly made sour mix). Service was with a smile, but a tad bit on the slow side.

Extremely disappointed! Made reservations for Saturday night. The décor and food was good, but the service was horrible! It took a long time to receive our food. We ordered a side of the rice and beans and it never came! We had to track down our waiter several times and gave the hostess the bill since our waiter never came back. On top of that, splitting the bill was a disaster. One card was charged twice, in two different amounts which is odd since the direction given was to split the bill equally. Definitely wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone.

What else can I say. I lived down here and loved this place. Ambiance is way nicer than the midtown/Hell’s Kitchen location. Most of the tacos are very tasty and the enchiladas are pretty darn good. Grew up eating authentic Mex food from farm to table so this place is pretty gourmet and pricey for most people but worth the $$ when you have guests from OOT. Rosa Mexicano(union square) and Dos Caminos(SoHo) are not bad alternatives. Classic margaritas are my fave.

Just stopped by it was the nicest looking place on the street. The service was great and the food was fresh. I ordered the corn dumplings and lamb meatballs. Great place to grab some quick lunch before your soho shopping day :)

Stopped by for Saturday afternoon drinks and tapas. We were seated immediately in the corner window table. Beautiful, bright, and comfortable setting. Not retro, not trying to be «trendy,» just a classic clean bar and eatery feel. Service was prompt and helpful! Waiter had great suggestions, and knew his tequila. We shared the pork belly tostadas, short rib tacos, and chicken empanadas. All excellent. The star was the tequila menu. My wife had a margarita, and I had a Casa Noble Reposado, which was pure vanilla honey goodness, followed by a smoky but smooth Del Maguey Joven mezcal on the server’s recommendation. Want to go back to try more food and tequila!

This was actually a 2.5, but we rounded down. Service was horrendous and the food was okay. It was just kind of average and we were expecting better for the location.

Anejo caught my attention due to its location, appearance and tequila /mezcal theme. Here’s the quick version. It’s located in what I call«Bartender’s Row» at the top of Church Street. The building is classic, old TriBeCa so it’s an attractive room. The food, drinks and service were done well. It is loud on a Friday night! If you care to read on… This section of Church Street offers a menu of cocktail and food options and Anejo has a fine corner LOCATION. It happens to be across the street from my current favorite so, coming in here was kind of an opportunity cost. If you happen to come here for drinks and don’t care to stay, there are plenty of options nearby. The DECOR is of my favorite type. Large, square high ceiling with lots of ornate detail and curvy wood trim. I don’t recall the music so, I suppose that means it was either non-existent(doubtful) or not annoying. The reason I mention the music(that I don’t recall) is that the voice levels and acoustics make this establishment one of the louder experiences on memory(clouded as it may be). The FOOD was better than I expected. I’m a Mexican food snob so, if you’re not as picky as me, you’ll be fine here. We ordered guac and salsa. My nit here is that although they offer a range of salsas, they make you pay. I understand paying for guac. Paying for salsa is kind of like paying or water. They have a selection of tacos. I had the short ribs and she had the fish. We split our orders to get a taste of each. I favored the short ribs. She preferred the fish. The DRINKS were excellent. I prefer Mezcal over Tequila and both are available here. I also prefer basic citrus and spirits, as opposed to frilly fruit like mango or strawberry. The selection of margaritas and mezcalritas is not extensive. The selection of sipping spirits is extensive. The SERVICE was quite good. Upon entering, you will encounter the hostess stand and can either be escorted to a table or make your way to the bar. Our particular server was attentive, smiled and prompt. These older buildings are a gamble when it comes to the lavatory facilities. This one is nice. As for the location, we did wander across the street to have the«one too many» that has clouded my memory this fine morning.

Went to Anejo for a private brunch. Everything was delicious. They have a variety of brunch food items. My fav were the pancakes with dulce de leche sauce and plantains. Mojitos and margaritas were awesome. The atmosphere was awesome. The staff was attentive but not overbearing. The music was a dream. It’s close to transportation.

Came here with two friends on a Wednesday night. The décor was nice, the waitstaff was very friendly, and the food was solid. For food, my friends and I shared the guac & chips, the fish tacos, the mushroom tacos, and the mixed salad. The guac & chips were good, but much too small. The fish tacos, which is one of my favorite dishes generally, was pretty disappointing. The fish was essentially tasteless, much too beer battered, and the tacos were too slimy and spicy with big chunks of jalapeño. Meh. But, the mushroom tacos were surprisingly smoky and good and the mixed salad was a surprising standout. It was HUGE and had pomegranate and pumpkin seeds. Yesssss!!! Highly recommend. During our meal, the service was almost too attentive; they kept taking things away that we hadn’t completely finished, which was… weird. But, I’d say that’s much better than being ignored. :) Overall, a good place.

Stopped into this establishment in the middle of the afternoon(and I mean like 3:30 pm) after we had checked into our awful hotel and before heading off to meet a friend. We had some time to kill and we felt like having a margarita. I’m going to keep this short and preface my rating by saying we sat at the bar, didn’t eat any food and didn’t interface too much with the staff. I really liked the space. It’s open, airy… has a Spanish feel, with new American accents including lovely crystal chandeliers. The room is bright with natural light due to the massive windows. So…my reason for not giving them four stars? Even though the Anejo margarita the relatively drone-like, but friendly bar keep was good, it came out of a tap. In my humble little opinion, all margaritas should be made fresh… with fresh squeezed lime juice. My high-end, expensive tequila shouldn’t be sloshing about inside of a copper vat for who knows how long waiting for me to order it up. No, no, no, no… Another important point. When we were walking to dinner later that evening, it seemed relatively quiet… it was Monday… so

Sister chain to the one down the street from me? Maybe? Though I guess I need to brush up on my Spanish to understand if Anejo is a common word, becuase these two were totally different. If you’re looking to rip shots of tequila or casually sip on some fancy tequila, Anejo will serve you right. Their is a great party room in the basement, or if you want to sit upstairs you can easily get a group prix-fix family style meal. Someone else did the ordering, but everything turned out exceptionally well!

Tapas spot in Tribeca Great service from the hostess, waitress and manager who came by a couple of times to chat with me and my guest. I didn’t realize that this was a tapas restaurant until me and my guest ordered guacamole and received a tiny bowl of it. Ha! In addition to the guac we ordered the corn dumplings, pork belly, and shrimp tacos. Oh and a few margaritas. There are restrooms on the lower level along with private event space. Great spot and it filled up pretty quickly as the night went on. I will definitely be back.

I only came here for a drink during happy hour before heading to another event so I can’t comment on the food. Their happy hour special isn’t terribly exciting though — they offer only two of the margaritas they have on tap and for only about a dollar cheaper than they are on the regular menu. For a place that prides itself on it’s tequila and mezcal options I was a bit disappointed at the margaritas on tap. Personally, I feel a really REALLY good marg should be made to order. Not to mention, the taps aren’t even cold. So they pour out a room temperature marg over some ice in a glass. Not really rocket science. I had the classic marg and it was tasty but I felt a little light on the tequila. It wasn’t terribly impressive. That being said — they do have a really impressive display of tequila and mezcal available, which you can’t always find. I hope to come back and test the bartenders on their actual margarita making skillz without the use of the tap.

Situated right across the street from my hotel. So I had to go and went two times. This is a great example of human element can easily ruin an otherwise great experience. First night I was there, I sat on the bar and had a good conversation with the bartender. I think he was Latino American. He suggested I try the corn dumplings which was great. I also ordered chips with habanero salsa. I didn’t much like the chips. They were very thick for my liking. But the sauce was pretty decent. Second night, I went there at an earlier time just to continue my experience. I ordered my drinks. As I had dinner later on, I only ordered an Empanadas. Than two things happened — both service related. — Apparently the bartender forgot to place my order in the system. So I still didn’t have anything to munch on after my first drink. This by itself is OK. Everyone can make a mistake. — Once Empanadas were on the table I asked for Habanero sauce to drizzle on. Almost in the same fashion like you’d ask for Tabasco. 10 – 15 minutes later a Habanero sauce similar to what they have on the menu came(identical to what I had previous night). But they also charged $ 3 for this. Whaaaat? Apparently, I was a sucker for this. I can understand lateness, I can understand less than attentive service. But ripping off for $ 3 — that’s not ok.

Went here last Wed. and I am 100% in love with this place. The guac alone sold me. We had the trio because my friend said all 3 were amazing and it would be hard to pick… she was so right. I could not stop thinking about the Verde guac this weekend so I googled to see if I could find the recipe… I DID! It was a close substitute until I am able to get back to Anejo. As for entrees– I had the shrimp tacos and my friend the mushroom, both were very yummy but we swapped one and I loved the mushroom one much more. Had a couple jalapeño margaritas– excellent! Ambience was really nice and the staff was awesome. This will be a new regular for me.

Anejo is a worthy replacement for Bread Tribeca, even if it lacks the neighborhood feel of its storied predecessor. The service at Anejo is mixed. The reservation desk is friendly, but a number of the wait staff lack warmth and might come across as inflexible even if efficient. The food and drinks menus are both extensive. And the prices are reasonable. The trio of guacamoles – traditional, verde and pineapple chipotle – is a must-have, and my favorite item on the menu. The chips are crispy and the variety of flavors is a good precursor to the rest of the menu. Enjoying the guacamole, especially if you are just in a group of two, can however severely limit your ability to consume much else. Speaking of the rest of the menu, I would recommend the sweet corn, shishito peppers and Brussels sprouts. Anejo’s client base is quite diverse – I would suspect most are not from the neighborhood. The noise levels are high. A far cry from the quiet setting of Bread Tribeca, back in the day. But then all good things have to come to an end. And Anejo is a great way to mark a new beginning.
